Well, this is definitely a positive.

But more or less irrelevant at this point given the constitutional protections.

This pick will lose Trump votes among some Republicans.

Bernie Sanders

The guy who has a history of vocalizing support for brutal Communist regimes. Nice

It wouldn’t surprise me if sometime during the convention we hear support for universal healthcare and a $30 minimum wage
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

I could stomach Trump leading the GOP more so than Vance.  Economically, he's a classic "I hate the rich" kind of guy.

I have no doubt that JD Vance is a very decent man who served this country and appears to be a good husband and father

But we are definitely going to see a movement away from free and open economy to a more planned and controlled one in the next four years. That will have real ramifications.

Trade barriers will replace free trade

Bailouts will replace market fundamentals

Instead of the market weeding out winners and losers, Government is going to play a more prominent role in that decision

The only difference between the two camps this fall is the degree of each happening. Biden will tend the support more regulations on business than Trump does. But as we saw during Trump’s first term, that  doesn’t overcome other barriers

QFT. Four years from now your words will be hailed as prophetic. Too bad 'magical thinking' holds most folks attention right now instead.

It's not so much Vance, per se.  It's Trump showing that he hasn't learned a damn thing since 2016.  Having Vance on the ticket is not as big of a problem as is being stupid enough to put Vance on the ticket.  Day One of Trump's second term, and the GOP will already be down a Senator.  And with six clear battleground States, Trump decides to select someone who will be zero help in any of them.  Maybe even a negative for Michigan voters who have no love of anything from Ohio.  Politically, this was a horrendous choice.  Poor judgment yet again from Trump.  Now looking forward to seeing Ronna McDaniel chosen for Chief of Staff.

If more-or-less Republican Gov. DeWine picks a Republican to fill Vance's seat, is the GOP down a seat? If he selects the right guy (or gal), that person may retain the seat at the next election. That's why I think Ramaswamy is not the right choice for DeWine. He doesn't carry any weight with Ohio voters.

Not if he does it quickly.  But DeWine is no Conservative.  So I'm not very confidant that he will choose a good successor.

I agree. That's why I hope DeWine doesn't pay attention to Vivek supposedly wanting the seat.

So his political positions don’t matter to you? As long as the left doesn’t like him, that’s good enough?

It speaks volumes!

He's a great pick. I know the interventionists and "free trade" Pubs won't like him, but it's about time to change how we deal with the rest of the world. We won the cold war. The USSR no longer exists so it's about time for Europe to start defending itself. Also, all the globalist free traders have gotten us is a dependence on other nations, many of which don't like us, for essential goods.
We have a beach head. Now it's time to win the war and save the Republic.

That isn't what he said.

Thank you!

I appreciate that someone understood my point.

FWIW, I don't disagree with his policy positions. It's long past time for the Pubs to place an emphasis on helping people achieve the American Dream.

Donald Trump’s tariffs started a trade war and damaged the economy the first time around. He blamed the media all the way up to American companies for their failure. You can’t dodge the law of Economics

But hey, maybe he’ll have better luck with the larger ones he’s proposing if he wins a second term

What’s mind-boggling to me is Trump already has a record and has attempted many of this stuff while president and yet his supporters think if he does it even harder and larger, the results will be different

You can’t print trillions of dollars and throw it in the economy without it at some point triggering inflation. The history of economics shows the damage that that does to a nation’s currency

Both Trump and JD Vance also support a weaker dollar. That further decreases the purchasing power of peoples paychecks and savings

There’s no magical way around the law of economics or math

And as far as Protectionist tariffs both the McKinley tariffs of 1890 and the Smoot Hawley Act caused enough damage to the economy that both ended up wiping Republicans out of office

The Trump I've been seeing is more restrained, especially at the debate. He seems to have learned to be more presidential.  Among the things Trump seems to have learned is to keep the country club Pubs at arms length and not in a key position such as VP.

We need the VP to be a tough campaigner who can get after the Rats. Let Trump take the "high road". Vance fits this role perfectly and we get the added benefit of a young dynamic person from the next generation who can carry a successful administration forward after Trump's term is over.

I don't get all the anxiety about the America First movement. We need key manufacturing to return to the USA and if tariffs are a tool to do it I'm all for it. I think the inflation and cost concerns are over blown if expanded energy production takes place along with some restrains in spending.

It is absolutely the exact same mindset

When progressivism fails, it’s believers always have a scapegoat as to why it failed. Donald Trump did the same thing and I suspect we’re going to see more of it should he win another term

You can have Andrew Dice Clay as your VP, and it won't help you overcome fraud in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona.  Vance can play pit bull all he wants.  But if you want to win the election, you are going to need States like Virginia, Nevada, and New Hampshire.  And Vance doesn't help Trump with any of those.

Some of you forget that we do have a record from when Donald Trump was president the first time.

Will those working class voters who are now in the Trump camp instead of the Biden camp agree that increases in the cost of living are overblown?  How long will they stick around in the Trump camp if we get the JD Vance currency devaluation that he seems to be so fond of?

We’ve been drilling record amounts of oil. Yet inflation persists. It persists because we are printing money to finance $2 trillion deficits, which, BTW, Trump doesn’t seem to have an issue with

Our economy no  longer employees large numbers of people to be on assembly lines on factory floors. Robots and machines do the work now. Trump and Vance seem to believe that they will usher in a return to a 1950’s economy. And even if it was possible, tariffs wouldn’t do it

I think the America First movement means well. But they are terribly misguided

There was  a whole thread recently dedicated to Trump’s tariff proposals, and not one single supporter of them could give any example of where Trump’s tariffs provided a positive to the economy. Not one.

And do you know what Javier Milei did as part of his effort to control inflation and improve the economy  in  Argentina….. lifted  import controls and pushing for more free trade!!!

Free markets and free trade… I say we need more, not less, of it

But more or less irrelevant at this point given the constitutional protections.

This pick will lose Trump votes among some Republicans.

I know very little about JD and only what I briefly read yesterday about his wife being friends with Ramsy which I find troubling.

However, that has zero impact on my voting for Trump. Why do you think JD will lose Trump votes???

Again, they tried to take Trump out for his competency not his incompetency.  I have no problem casting a vote for Trump now.  JD or no JD.
