Former President Donald Trump has chosen Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, as his vice presidential running mate, taking a once-strident critic and elevating him as the leading heir to his political legacy.

Vance, who will turn 40 in August, offers a youthful contrast to Trump, 78, and President Joe Biden, 81.

He would be the third-youngest vice president in history — behind John Breckinridge (36 years old upon taking office in 1857) and Richard Nixon (40 years and 11 days in 1953). And Vance's selection comes just days after Trump survived an assassination attempt Saturday, underlining the gravity of the vice presidential selection in stark terms.

The tweeter was responding to someone who asked whether J.D. is a Christian. I kind of don't think he is (though I really don't know) but while that certainly is important to his soul, it's not the first thing I would demand of a VP, even though I'm an evangelical Christian. I agree with the poster's comment about the first 20 years of his life, though. The book is heart-rending.

Trump had zero government experience (other than paying off politicians with campaign contributions) before he was elected, and the Republicans seem to think he did well enough to nominate him again. (I vehemently disagree, as I've made abundantly clear up to this point.) So at this point, the experience thing is out the window.

If anything is a concern, he's a Marine. Retired Marines are among the most unstable people in America—the government programs them into being vicious fighters, but never deprograms them. It's a big factor in the 22 suicides a day.

As a Catholic, like JD.  I was told my whole life I'm not a Christian.

Inexperience in what exactly?  If it is in government, then that makes him even more valuable to American citizens who have had quite enough of +50 year politicians like Biden and McConnell, to name a couple.

Here's a news flash: you don't need to have "served" for decades in Congress or even been a governor to be qualified to be president. Every one of us is qualified, as long as we were born here - and I suspect most of us would have done a better job than quite a few of the presidents since at least 1963.

I stand corrected on my previous comment. I didn't realize J.D. was a practicing Catholic. Had I remembered that, I certainly wouldn't have implied he wasn't a Christian. I apologize to the Catholics here.

Well, he is one smart cookie @jmyrlefuller he graduated from OH state in 2 years Summa Cum Laude.  Sure, inexperience is a concern. That's a given but IIRC he has law experience so I don't think he's totally unaware of the Constitution and ins and outs of government as Trump was.

As for him being a retired Marine and being unstable .... there's nothing to back up your claim that he's unstable. I do think he deserves a pat on the back for serving our country.

I've done a little bit of research on him and so far he seems to lean to the right of Trump.

Let's count our blessings right now; no Rubio and no Vivek!  In addition J.D. is 39 which is another positive. He is an author, grew up poor and struggled. 

One big plus, McConnell didn't want him in the Senate -- that casts my vote for him right there.

At a glance I see more positives than negatives about him.
