Free markets and free trade lift more people out of poverty than any type of central planning or protectionism

Somehow, we’ve gotten the idea in this country that everything should be equal. Some think because free markets and free trade doesn’t bring about 100% equalization in the economy , well, then that means they don’t work. Of course, there are jobs that do get negatively impacted by free trade. But more people and businesses are harmed with protectionist trade policies.

The Americans steel industry may reap some benefits from protectionism. But everybody else is harmed by them

It’s the same with free markets. Not everybody does well in a free market economy. But more people than not benefit


And that’s why, like socialism, MAGAism/populism doesn’t work


Things changed for the better for the Swedish people when they abandoned their socialism and you will see the same thing over time for the people of Argentina


Hopefully the same thing will happen one day to the people of Cuba and Venezuela, and God willing, the poor people of North Korea

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) acknowledged that he criticized his running mate, former President Donald Trump before, but “President Trump was a great President and he changed my mind.” And “I bought into the media’s lies and distortions,” Vance also stated that it’s “a good thing when you see somebody, you were wrong about him, you ought to admit the mistake and admit you were wrong.”

Vance said, [relevant remarks begin around 5:05] “I don’t hide from that. I was certainly skeptical of Donald Trump in 2016, but President Trump was a great President and he changed my mind. I think he changed the minds of a lot of Americans, because, again, he delivered that peace and prosperity. If you go back to what I thought in 2016 — another thing that was going on, Sean, is, I bought into the media’s lies and distortions, I bought into this idea that, somehow, he was going to be so different, a terrible threat to democracy. It was a joke. Joe Biden is the one who’s trying to throw his political opposition in jail. Joe Biden is the one who’s trying to undermine American law and order. President Trump did a really good job. And I actually think it’s a good thing when you see somebody, you were wrong about him, you ought to admit the mistake and admit you were wrong.”

He added, “Something that really changed for me and I think for a lot of Americans is, we saw the results of the Trump presidency compared to the obsessive, deranged media reaction in 2019 and 2020.”

Vance also pointed out that Vice President Kamala Harris attacked President Joe Biden during debates in the 2020 cycle, while his criticisms of Trump were years ago.

I have no doubt that JD Vance is a very decent man who served this country and appears to be a good husband and father


But we are definitely going to see a movement away from free and open economy to a more planned and controlled one in the next four years. That will have real ramifications.

Trade barriers will replace free trade

Bailouts will replace market fundamentals

Instead of the market weeding out winners and losers, Government is going to play a more prominent role in that decision


The only difference between the two camps this fall is the degree of each happening. Biden will tend the support more regulations on business than Trump does. But as we saw during Trump’s first term, that  doesn’t overcome other barriers

Trump 2024 Deputy Communications Director Caroline Sunshine took issue with that attack in an interview with Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

As an aside from me, obviously Vance's recent comments on the so-called "abortion pill" were disappointing. But Baer comes highly respected by those I highly respect. So here's hoping that was an uncommon misstep, because this is a very strong and encouraging endorsement.

But when you have a miscarriage, you get it as a prescription, too. Just saying “you can’t get it at a pharmacy” will put women in very risky situations. There’s no thought behind this at all. If you don’t mean ban, don’t say ban, and definitely don’t use it as a measure for being pro-life.

With Trump’s history of making threats against any Republicans that don’t go along with his vision, and the pick of JD Vance, nothing will temper Trump’s worse impulses. Who will tell Trump that you can’t print money and hand out  checks to favored groups without creating dependency and risking inflation, for example?
