The Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation has been going on for several days. Russia began to transfer troops there not only from the front in Ukraine, but also from Kaliningrad.

Is Ukraine trying to "Hold" Kursk? Or are they minimizing consolidation in order to deny use of the area to Russia while preserving mobility and expanding the areas Russia will find too risky for operation?

Ukraine's offensive has succeeded in forcing Russia to divert forces from their meatgrinder offenses and is threatening to shut down a key Russian infrastructure asset.

Like I said earlier in this thread, I think this is a tactic similar to what the CSA did in 1862-1863 in Maryland and Pennsylvania.  The Confederates knew they'd never conquer the North, but figured an precise sucessful mini-invasion would sour the citizens against Lincoln, and bring about a brokered  peace.

No one thinks these guys are going to reach Moscow.

Correct.  I'll also add that one of Lee's objectives, at least during the Pennsylvania Campaign of 1863, was Harrisburg.  He wanted to sever the rail and communication lines between the northern states and Washington, DC and Philadelphia, and threaten those two cities from the rear.  He might have gotten away with it too if 1) Lincoln had not replaced Hooker with Meade, and 2) Buford's cavalry had not accidentally run into A.P. Hill's Corps at Gettysburg.  At that moment, Dick Ewell and Jubal Early were already in York at the Susquehanna, while Rhodes was out Carlisle, and they would have all converged on Harrisburg in a day or two, if that had not happened.  Trick of fate!
