Do people on this forum seek out sources of information beyond what is stamped and approved by the Trump administration?
They dumped Jimmy Kimmel under pressure from Trump’s FCC chairman. They’re even threatening to go after others
The glaring hole in the Democrat Party talking points here is that Brendan Carr never spoke to ABC. Not once. Carr didn't post a tweet. He didn't pen an editorial. He didn't order anyone at his agency to issue any statement or threat. No, all Carr did was say something on a podcast that no one heard live, that no one even knew about until Benny Johnson reposted it AFTER ABC took action.
So what precipitated ABC's action? Two things. First, there was
the decision by NexStar to "preempt 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' for the foreseeable future". They cited Kimmel's actions as the reason for their decision. Here's a quote from Nextar President, Andrew Alford:
“Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”
Nexstar is the biggest broadcast group in the nation. They represent more local stations than any other firm. This was the last straw for ABC. It wasn't what Kimmel said. It was the ratings disaster that he represented.
Since January, his ratings have fallen over 40%. In the 18-49 age group, his viewership is less than 130k. This is the age group that sells advertising dollars. And in that regard, ABC was not getting a return on their investment. With Nexstar's announcement, that 130k number was about to drop again. So, ABC chose to cut their losses and pull Kimmel from the air (though still paying him through next March). It was a business decision based on dollars, similar to CBS cancelling Colbert.
Once again Trump has played the Dems. He got their panties all in a wad not by his actions but because of outrageous statements he has made. And once again, the left has fallen for it. So I strongly suggest for members here to not get caught up in it. Let's examine the facts first instead of jumping on board with a narrative that the truth simply does not support. Seriously, ask yourself which came first - the suspension, or the reporting of Carr's comment on some podcast.
