McCarthy defiant ahead of speaker vote: 'I've earned this damn job'

Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA) said he's "earned" the job of speaker of the House in a tense Republican conference meeting before Tuesday's speaker vote.

The embattled No. 1 House Republican gave a speech making the case for why he should have the gavel, telling his Republican colleagues that he's "earned this damn job," according to sources in the room, who said his remarks received a standing ovation. He pledged to stay and fight for the job even if very few members stand with him.

McCarthy defiant ahead of speaker vote: 'I've earned this damn job'

America hasn't earned you, dumbass.  This isn't about you.  It is about restoring this country to it's original design.  The path we are on now will end with the destruction of this Republic.  And it's attitudes like yours that is causing it.

The only think that McCarthy has 'earned' is a medal from the Democrats for not blocking anything they have wanted to do over the past four years.

Sounds like something a Democrat would do.  Oh, wait . . .

Report: Boebert, Gaetz, Perry Told McCarthy They Don’t Mind if Democrat Hakeem Jeffries Wins Speakership

Three House Freedom Caucus members reportedly told GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in a private meeting on Monday that they don’t mind if incoming House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) wins the speakership.

The best thing that could possibly come out of this is to have an outsider (i.e. someone not a member of the House) to be put in the Speaker's chair.

The name 'Mark Levin' comes to mind.

Are there really that many present?  Or is proxy voting in effect?

Per CSPAN as I understand it, it requires a physical presence for the vote. And, voting 'present' does not add to the vote total either.

Past all the nominations and speechifying, the roll call vote has begun.

4 have already voted for someone other than McCarthy, so he's already down to 218.

Only through the "C"'s on roll call and already 7 dissenting GOP votes.  McCarthy already short on first ballot.

For those who keep wanting to capitulate to McCarthy, and accept less.

ALL McCarthy had to do to meet terms for speaker was:

1. Agree to floor vote on term limits
2. Agree to floor vote on balanced budget from committee
3. Agree to push forward Texas delegation Border Plan

He Refused!!!!!
You Briefers want that? Seems McCarthy prefers working with dims,

I am not the biggest fan of McCarthy either, but let’s stop pissing around. If a Republican is going to be the speaker, it’s going to be him. All of this showboating might look good for certain individuals, but it’s hurting us in the big picture.

Yeah, I prefer Jordon, but Scalise might have to be a consensus pick.  He at least has stronger conservative stripes and background than McCarthy.

West?  He lost me when he tried has his little carpet bagging Governor stunt in TX last year.

As far as I am concerned the best outcome is for the House to spend the next 730 days taking Speaker roll call votes, and not spend our tax dollars.

Whatever happens the Caucus divide this is creating will take years to heal.  It's why conservatives haven't earned the right to govern.

Never underestimate the ability of Republicans to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

You know.....

I'm about give up.  My message to all of you  who are supporting McCarthy for Speaker?.....   Well have at it.

I, on the other hand, expect that  you have lost the  right  to bitch about all the upcoming  times that he caves to his dimocratic friends in the spirit of bipartisanship.   The Swamp hence perpetuated.

This is all on McCarthy....

Per Freedom Caucus, all he had to do for smooth vote and appoval was :

1. Bring Term Limits up for Floor Vote
2. Bring a balanced provision to balance the budget as provided from committee
3. Bring to floor vote the Border Plan provided by the Texas delegate.

Can one Briefer tell me if this is unacceptable......  Or just what or why McCarthy would refuse?

Think back to 1994 and the elevation of Newt Gingrich to Speaker, the first from the GOP in 40 years.  Before 1995 was out, Newtie caved in to Clinton on an Omnibus spending bill.

We've been double-crossed by Republican Speakers ever since.

Per Gaetz press conference.  Looked like they were reasonable concessions to me.....
ALL McCarthy had to do to meet terms for speaker was:

1. Agree to floor vote on term limits
2. Agree to floor vote on balanced budget from committee
3. Agree to push forward Texas delegation Border Plan

Why would McCarthy refuse these?

It's pretty clear McCarthy believes he is entitled to this.

It is all about him and not what is best for the country.

I've had enough of the entitlement swamp.

Didn't realize we had so many pageant princesses in our party. It's not about image or brand or how we look, it's what we get done. Get a pair and a thicker skin.

Nobody's going to remember or care about this vote in a month. Rats can smirk and mock and get stuck on that broken record, all the Reps gotta do, is do. Time will march on.

Old empty suit and helmet hair needs to get set back on his heels and knocked down a peg, then maybe we can get down to business and actually get something done.

This is how it should really work in the real world. People have gotten too fat and comfortable.

Republicans Gather In Congress To Vote On Who Will Fail The Voters This Time

Quote
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Republicans in Congress are gathering to vote for their preferred politician who will let the voters down over the next two years.

"This is an honorable tradition, where we come together as team players to choose the one man who will most effectively preserve our power while doing the opposite of everything we promised our voters and spending trillions of dollars," said Rep. Dan Crenshaw. "Anyone who opposes our pick is anti-American!"

So what do you think he'll offer the Dems to get the four votes?  Equal representation on each committee and Democrat chairmen?

It'll take more like 20 now.  I think before tipping his hand in that direction, it'd cause a mass exodus in GOP votes.

Now that he has his attack dog Crenshaw developing "enemies list", I think negotiaton on McCarthy's behalf with conservatives is long gone.

McCarthy blew it.

If I were a rank-and-file GOPer in DeeCee, I'd be burning up the search engines with "What happened to the Whigs?"

We could be seeing this in live action today.  I'd been reminding them about this for years....the Whigs went down because they did not move on the most pressing issue of the day.  The GOP is not moving on the pressing issues of today.

1923 is quite similar to what we are seeing right now.

The GOP in general held a slight majority, with party itself fractured between mainstream GOP, Progressive GOP, and an Independent branch of the GOP.

Overall split of the GOP-dim split going into the 68th Congress was 209-195.  As then there were 414 in the House.  So Gillett needed 208 votes to secure Speaker's role.

Party Leader Frederick Gillett of NH fell short 12-15 votes short for the 1st 8 ballots, before he forged and alliance on the 9th ballot with the progressive branch with the party.

Does the Freedom Caucus hold firm, or take the same approach after some negotiations?

So it takes a majority of members present - not members total.  This makes it more precarious.  If enough Republicans walk out, then Jeffries becomes Speaker.  And if enough Dems walk out, McCarthy becomes Speaker.

This is 100% on McCarthy.  He is the one here risking having a Dem Speaker, not the 20 Patriots.

From House source: 2 very plugged-in Dem leadership aides say they are already talking about “coalition leadership” to divide the House evenly between Republicans and Democrats.

We already have coalition Democrat rule.

If that happens, I will fundraise and work as hard as I can to remove Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, and the rest of the 19 Republicans from Congress. And believe me, there are a ton of us who will do the same.

Just what the Democrats want.  And it will be 100% on you for backing Democrat-lite at all cost.

No, it's really not.  As a bare minimum, the opposition had a responsibility to have a viable candidate ready to go after McCarthy lost the first vote.  They should have been able to answer the question:  "If not McCarthy, then who?".

Gaetz blew this up without doing the math and strategizing around the reality the numbers present.  He's turned this into a personal vendetta against McCarthy and his principled opposition into a shit show. ---- weakening the entire caucas and strengthening democrats.

Pure unadulterated crap.  It is the failure to oppose the Democrat agenda that has weakened the entire caucus and strengthened Democrats.  How refreshing it would be to have a Speaker who actually backed what Republicans have been promising for the last 20 years.  Instead, we get the same old non-rational Establishment attacks against Conservatives.

McCarthy has been #2 (double entendre intended) in GOP leadership for eight years now.  During those eight years, we have seen the House GOP sign off on roughly $15 billion in new debt.  And now, his desire to become Speaker supersedes anything else.

Great points! Also, his arrogance led him to move into the Speaker's office before there was a vote.

I'm loving this. There are conservatives in the Pub party who are willing to lay it all on the line to get real change. I want Reps to know what are in bills before they vote on them. I want Reps on the floor proclaiming why they are for or against something. I want committees to actually play a role in the budget and legislative process. I am sick of seeing a small group in a closed room putting together fiscal packages and or legislation nobody has read. I want oversight to actually mean something.

As the votes continue I'm hoping more start supporting Jordan and McCarthy finally gets it and quits.

Sums it up. The Swampy RINO faction expects us to get in line, vote for their leadership, don't question election results, go along with their bipartisanship bootlicking, always do what we're told, always step and fetch for party unity.

But when it's going the other direction, they refuse to back down no matter how many times they lose. McCarthy is now a three time loser. He needs to stand aside for the good of the party and support someone who can win.

It couldn't be.  The arrogance of the Establishment wouldn't allow it.  McCarthy et al expected every House member to fall in line if they knew what is good for them since he held the key to all committee assignments not to mention all those free Lincoln Center tickets.

The only way to fight this out is here and now.  It doesn't matter one bit how this looks.  What matters is that 'business as usual' ends now.  Democrats can laugh all they want through all this, but what they are counting on is another John Boehner or Paul Ryan.  And they know they have that in Kevin McCarthy.  If McCarthy, Scalise, and company are pushed aside, you won't see Democrats laughing for the next two years.

That's all right... But likely there ain't enough poop to make that happen. *Just* deposing the 'king' is a monumental sea change, if they get that done. Doesn't even matter who ascends. But even that is asking a lot... If they do no more at this point than getting real concessions, it's still a grand and super-worthy win...

But it looks to me that they will try to depose him. And that is saying some... I don't think they have enough weight to have the right ascend, but they could pick something better - Scalise is my bet right now... And that is an extraordinary movement.

Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado said Tuesday that Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California “smugly rejected” a “common sense” proposal that would have secured him the speakership on the first ballot.

“I have been working for months behind the scenes to create unity,” Boebert told “Special Report” host Bret Baier. “Just last night two colleagues and myself walked into Kevin McCarthy’s office and presented him a very common sense proposal, a deal that got him 218 votes, the gavel on the first ballot and he smugly rejected that.”

Gaetz said similar in his presser.

Three things became painfully apparently clear yesterday....

* McCarthy is so pathologically arrogant, he moved into the Speakers office prematurely.  If he has to move out, it will be a collosial embarassment.
* His RINO stripes are flashing like a neon sign now, as it is truly evident he rather negotiate with his dimocratic buddies than conservatives. I have posted the Freedom Caucus' list of 3 concessions at least 5 times yesterday.  I challenge any Briefer here to tell me which or any of those 3 that weren't reasonable or acceptable.
* He is a hell of a lot dumber than we thought.  Yesterday's debacle was avoidable, and incredibly embarrassing.  I don't see how he could govern as Speaker with any respect or authority. Tough to lead when both parties are laughing at you.

If McCarthy has any political savy at all, last night he should have gotten the 20 Rebels, and Scalise, and Jordon as facilitators  into a room with a white board, and worked this shit out.   I just don't think he's smart enough........

Gaetz sends letter to Architect of the Capitol asking why McCarthy is occupying Speaker’s office
by Julia Shapero - 01/03/23 11:23 PM ET
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) sent a letter to the Architect of the Capitol on Tuesday questioning why House Speaker candidate Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was already inhabiting the Speaker’s office amid an intraparty battle over the House’s top leadership position.

“I write to inform you that the Speaker of the House Office located in the U.S. Capitol Building is currently occupied by Rep. Kevin McCarthy,” Gaetz said in the letter.

“As of this morning, the 117th Congress adjourned sine die, and a Speaker from the 118th Congress has not been elected,” he continued. “After three undeciding votes, no member can lay claim to this office.”

McCarthy failed to secure a majority for his Speakership bid in three consecutive votes on Tuesday, leading Republican leaders to adjourn for the day. A group of 19 GOP lawmakers, including Gaetz, consistently opposed McCarthy on all three rounds, with Rep.-elect Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) joining the anti-McCarthy group in the final vote of the day.

McCarthy on Tuesday criticized Gaetz for reportedly saying he did not care if House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) was elected in place of McCarthy as a result of the group’s tactics.

Hakeem Jeffries of New York secured 212 votes from Democrats in all three ballots.

Amen!

One thought about the Speakership and McCarthy, hasn't he shown himself to be unsuited to the job because he couldn't reconcile the different groups within the party before the first vote?

What are you talking about here?

McCarthy won the Republican nomination for Speaker with 86% of the vote @Cyber Liberty   No other viable candidate has been put forward in the seven weeks since he won.

What would you think in his shoes?

So McCarthy had 7 weeks to bring all the Pub members together and he couldn't do it. It sure doesn't speak well of his ability to lead, unless of course the Speakership position is that of a tyrant.

Seems likely... he threw it away over 4 concessions the Conservatives asked for - a flat no, with an expectation that they kiss the ring...

Looks like that was a bad move.

I'm with you. What I'm seeing in this floor fight over the Speakership is the arrogance of the establishment (uniparty) Pubs. They have taken the position that MAGA Pubs just need to sit down and shut up, or they won't get any committee assignments. If McCarthy was capable he would have worked out all the issues before the vote. The MAGA Pubs have to hang in there over time things will swing their way. They may not get everything they want but they wouldn't get anything without this fight.

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) revealed to CNN on Wednesday that preliminary talks are “underway” to potentially pick a “consensus candidate” should Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) be unable to secure enough votes to become Speaker of the House.

McCarthy failed to reach the needed threshold to be elected to the position three times on Tuesday, with more than a dozen Republican lawmakers refusing to concede and support him. CNN’s Jim Sciutto asked Bacon on Wednesday, ahead of even more voting, about the lawmaker’s suggestion that Republicans may need to work with Democrats to get this Speaker vote done.

Bacon revealed there are talks underway for a “consensus candidate,” but he insisted he is still supporting McCarthy and will do so until the Republican takes his name out of the race...

...Bacon also suggested McCarthy himself negotiate with Democrats on committee ratios and office space to possibly get some Democratic votes or for Democrats to simply vote present to lower McCarthy’s threshold.

Sciutto asked if Republicans working with Democrats in such a way is “defying Republican voters,” but Bacon declared, “we have to be Americans first.”

Support what 100%?

Sure, they appoint judges to appease socially conservative culture war donors, but what else do they to advance an America First agenda?

Congressional GOP leadership is about nothing other than obtaining and consolidating more power for themselves and their donors.

They will not do anything to constrain spending or to shrink government, and they duplicitly vote 'no' on over-spending bills that they hope will pass.

AOC muses 'unprecedented' coalition government could break GOP stalemate

Progressive star Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) dangled the prospects of a "coalition government" breaking the GOP standstill in the House.

Without committing to backing a coalition, Ocasio-Cortez suggested that Kevin McCarthy, who is aspiring to be speaker, may be forced to negotiate with Democrats and pondered whether her party could claim Democratic chairs of committees in that hypothetical.

"I do not believe that Kevin McCarthy has the votes. I believe that a lot of the opposition to him is very personal. I believe his leadership style is incompatible with a lot of Republican members and certainly the Democratic Caucus," Ocasio-Cortez contended on MSNBC Tuesday.

Ocasio-Cortez underscored that she is "not saying necessarily that our party is signaling an openness just yet" but contended that "this is very much an unprecedented time."

If I understand it correctly - someone correct me if there's a wrinkle - with a 351 quorum McCarthy only needs 171 to win. With 202 in support from the last vote he should have it.

But now he owes the Rats for giving it to him, so he'd be compromised out of the gate. Not that he's probably going to care...

                        Speaker Chosen from Members

Article I, section 2 of the Constitution directs that the House
choose its Speaker and other officers. The Speaker is the only House
officer who traditionally has been chosen from the sitting membership
of the House. Manual Sec. 26. The Constitution does not limit his
selection from among that class, but the practice has been followed
invariably. The Speaker's term of office thus expires at the end of
his term of office as a Member, whereas the other House officers
continue in office ``until their successors are chosen and
qualified.'' Rule II clause 1; 1 Hinds Sec. 187.

                            Nomination and Vote

The general practice for election of Speaker begins with
nominations from each party caucus followed by a viva voce vote of the
Members-elect. Relying on the Act of June 1, 1789, the Clerk
recognized for nominations for Speaker as being of higher
constitutional privilege than a resolution to postpone the election of
a Speaker and instead provide for the election of

[[Page 639]]

a Speaker pro tempore pending the disposition of certain ethics
  charges against the nominee of the majority party. 2 USC Sec. 25;
  Manual Sec. 27.
Under the modern practice, the Speaker is elected by a majority of
Members-elect voting by surname, a quorum being present
. Manual
Sec. 27; 1 Hinds Sec. 216; 6 Cannon Sec. 24. The Clerk appoints
tellers for this election. However, the House, and not the Clerk,
decides by what method it shall elect. 1 Hinds Sec. 210. For former
  practices relating to the election of the Speaker, see Manual Sec. 27;
  1 Hinds Sec. Sec. 212, 214, 218; 8 Cannon Sec. 3883.
In two instances the House agreed to choose and subsequently did
choose a Speaker by a plurality of votes but confirmed the choice by
majority vote. In 1849 the House had been in session 19 days without
being able to elect a Speaker, no candidate having received a majority
of the votes cast. The voting was viva voce, each Member responding to
the call of the roll by naming the candidate for whom he voted.
Finally, after the fifty-ninth ballot, the House adopted a resolution
declaring that a Speaker could be elected by a plurality. 1 Hinds
Sec. 221. In 1856 the House again struggled over the election of a
Speaker. Ballots numbering 129 had been taken without any candidate
receiving a majority of the votes cast. The House then adopted a
resolution permitting the election to be decided by a plurality. 1
Hinds Sec. 222. On both of these occasions, the House ratified the
plurality election by a majority vote.

I'm pretty sure it takes 218 votes to be elected speaker but not certain of current house rules.

They were saying yesterday that it is a majority of members present, not a majority of members as a whole.

Unless a deal has already been cut between McCarthy and the Dems, the Democrats would not yield an opportunity to steal the Speaker's seat.  If 80 members are missing, and those 80 members happen to be Republicans, the Dems would take it.  They're not sticking around just to block McCarthy.

C-Span has plastered on its screen McCarthy doesn't have the votes. Not sure if the 351 registration was correct.  I sure don't see 80 empty seats.

Me either and roughtly halfway thru the alphabet we had over 200 votes cast, so the 351 count was either preliminary or bogus.

No. Votes taken from McCarthy have nothing to do with Jeffries, unless Republicans actually vote for Jeffries - he cannot win otherwise. Dems do not have the 218 votes needed.

Not according to my understanding @LilLamb I think it takes 218 votes to elect anyone so as long as no Republicans jump ship and vote for Jefferies there will be no speaker.
Thanks. I guess I got confused earlier because I thought the 218 wasn't a set number that it was only the majority present.

Rep. Andy Biggs Says A House Speaker Should Be Someone Who Doesn’t Want It ‘So Badly’

Republican Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs said Wednesday that the most qualified candidate for House speaker is someone who does not want the position.

Biggs, who challenged McCarthy for the role, took this jab at McCarthy who had been unsuccessful in securing the gavel after four ballots. After losing to the Speaker-designate on the first ballot, the Arizona Republican supported Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and Byron Donalds of Florida.

“George Washington didn’t want to become President. George Washington didn’t want to attend the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention. He eventually changed his mind on both. Perhaps the best person for House Speaker isn’t someone who wants it so badly,” Biggs said.

'You don't have the votes': Lauren Boebert says Trump should tell McCarthy to drop out of speaker race

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) called on former President Donald Trump to tell Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to drop out of the race for speaker of the House as the election enters the fifth round of voting.

Boebert and her 19 conservative GOP allies are rallying around Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and blocking McCarthy from claiming the gavel. Though McCarthy has said he won't back down from the job he's chased for a decade, his staunch opposition isn't budging either.

"Let's stop with the campaign smears and tactics to get people to turn against us. Even having my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock this off," she said, turning to McCarthy. "I think it actually needs to be reversed — the president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy, 'Sir, you do not have the votes, and it's time to withdraw.'

You're correct @LilLamb   218 is the magic number if all members are present and vote for someone.  The 218 reduces if the number of members present drops and/or by the number voting "present".

There is also a scenario where McCarthy could get to 213 and prevail in a “most vote wins” scenario.

1. My friend Chip Roy said on the House floor yesterday that we were watching some great debate.  Really?  I didn’t hear any debate. There were a few very short sporadic statements. No debate. And lots of votes with the same result.

2. And he and the others in that group kept voting for someone who has said he’s not interested in being speaker, who nominated McCarthy, and voted repeatedly for McCarthy.  Sorry, brother Chip, that’s hardly some great lesson in representative government.

3. And you guys have no plan. The Democrats and media love it. And we, the people, are not impressed. In fact, I sense a backlash growing. This isn’t about McCarthy. It’s about Biden, open borders, the FBI, and all the rest. And nothing is getting done.

4. Let’s move off the mark now or all you guys might face primary challenges from real constitutional conservatives.

Count me one of those. They will survive. This country needs a little less suburbanite convenience and a little more blue collar butts and elbows. Sometimes achievement of the good isn't the route of smooth sailing.

Jefferson went as far to ask:

"What country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms."

DING DING DING !!!  WE HAVE A WINNER !!!

Although it doesn't have anything to do with opposing the Dems.  It's all about perks and power.  200+ GOP Congressmen are hedging their bets.  They don't want to be on record as opposing McCarthy because they know there will be severe retribution against them if McCarthy somehow survives.  The only hope at this point is that McCarthy backs out and allows an open grass roots election.

Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), who has voted for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on every ballot in the House speaker election, said the time is approaching for the Republican conference to make a decision on whom to elect.

Buck told CNN on Wednesday afternoon that tensions are running high among GOP lawmakers and that further conflict is brewing as factions may make good on their threats as the election approaches the sixth ballot. Some centrist Republicans have floated the possibility of working with Democrats to appoint a unifying candidate if McCarthy can't win.

Time spent picking a Speaker is time spent not voting on "frameworks" for more spending and for more open borders.

How?  The budget's already set through 2023.

Budgets are alocation of funds....

Outlays are actual funds spent.....

That is how and why we determine surpluses or deficits for each fiscal year.

I vote for a surplus.

And picture the humiliation of having to vacate the Speaker's office.  Kev's not going down without at worst making a deal with satan (the Democratic Party)
If he turns the committees over to the Dems, then we are back to Jan 1 2022 right out of the gate.
Nothing good will happen. The intentional destruction of America as a Nation will simply continue, with no pause.

Has Kevin McCarthy ceded the Sudetenland, yet, to get more votes for Speaker?

You really think having a budget is going to block Congress from spending more money it doesn't have?

‘This Is Insulting!’ Ex-Trump Spox Blasts ‘White’ Republicans For ‘Using Black Republicans As Shields’ After Byron Donalds Nom

Katrina Pierson, once a longtime spokesperson for former President Donald Trump, ripped Republicans after they nominated Florida Congressman Byron Donalds to be speaker of the House, taking away one more vote from Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

The big political story this week is McCarthy’s tumultuous bid to become speaker amid a revolt from House conservatives, a story which has culminated so far with five votes in which outgoing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy failed to secure a win.

Spartz calls for ‘productive conversation’ after withdrawing McCarthy support for speaker

Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN), a past McCarthy supporter, voted "present" on the fourth and fifth ballot to elect the next speaker of the House in an effort to allow for more negotiations within the conference to address the concerns of 20 Republicans who voted against Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) bid.

“My concern right now is that Republicans haven't come together yet. So we have to go back to the conference room and deliberate, as divided as a group of people, and figure it out,” Spartz said to reporters as she walked off the House floor. “How we can get people’s concerns addressed, how we can make sure that people, you know, who are unhappy with one thing and have a productive conversation.”

The current process is to spend money they don't have ("spending frameworks"), ask for a higher credit limit ("debt ceiling") to borrow money ("US Treasury Bonds / Federal Debt") necessary to pay for things purchased in previous years.

They've been skipping the US Treasury bond step and just creating money out of thin air.

The Federal Reserve had been buying US Treasury Bonds to manipulate interest rates lower.

The Fed has stopped buying debt, and that's why interest rates are increasing and the M2 money supply is decreasing.

The GOP has an opportunity to attract African-American voters and candidates away from a Dem party that has failed them for the past 50-60 years.

Pierson can eat yellow snow.

IMHO Chip Roy's nomination of Donalds is a stall tactic.  This will break in a whole different direction as some have already predicted.

Maybe the 7th time will be different.

I am encouraged to see the fight, conviction, and discipline on both sides.

Maybe this will toughen some of them soft-handed, wet-noodle, establishment Republicans.
