Ford considers killing F-150 Lightning after $13 billion in EV losses and dismal consumer demand
11/07/2025 / By Cassie B.

Ford may terminate its electric F-150 Lightning after massive losses.

Sales of the electric truck are dramatically lower than its gas-powered counterpart.

The vehicle’s high price and practical drawbacks like reduced range have hurt demand.

Ford is now pivoting to develop a smaller, more affordable electric pickup.

This signals a major setback for the large, expensive electric truck segment.

Duh...

Ford's management who did this should all be looking for jobs.

Considers?  Ya think?
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

And Ford, like Flounder, likewise wound up damaging their car.

Maybe instead of building likewise useless mini trucks, Ford can return to making actual “cars”.  Cannot believe they dumped the Fusion which was so popular.

I understand the government regulation nonsense, just would be nice to have regular cars.

The Toyota Helux Champ will soon be on the American market! It’s a light-duty, basic pickup truck that will likely sell for less than $20k. Until today, U.S. regulations made it impossible to sell in our markets.

I want one.  Maybe this will force the big three to build an affordable truck again.

Any plans for an electric El Camino or Gremlin?

A Gremlin would be a strong contender for that title as well.

We had a  Levi's edition gremlin.  You couldn't kill that thing.  But like the yugo it came standard with heated rear hatch window defroster so your hand kept warm when you pushed it.

Electric vehicles should all have the same mandatory universal battery mounts/design.

This way, when a more efficient tech becomes available, it should be adaptable to your vehicle.

But why Ford Motor Co. would put such an amount ($13B) into the world's #1 selling pickup truck?

I'd bite too, especially as a skinny kid back in the day.   However, in my expanded old age, I am F-150 sized.

I still weigh the same as I did when I was playing college FB.  However, It is distributed differently, so the F-150 is prolly the better choice for me too!

I had a '74 and blew head gasket, stranding me.  Everything squeaked and rattled on that car.

Couldn't wait to get rid of it.

I had a friend in high school who was a few years ahead of me.  He and a friend squeezed a Chevy 350 into a Gremlin.  A shitload of fun until someone wrecked it.

I had a six and it came also in a V8, which I thought was too much engine in that rattletrap
