When she walked through the door, Sergii, 11, would not look her in the eye and turned his body away from her.

The Ukrainian siblings were among the thousands abducted by Russia and taken across the border since Moscow’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022.

In an incredible story of bravery and perseverance, Kseniia, now 20, managed to find her stolen brother and worked to bring both of them home. They are, in a way, some of the luckier victims. An estimated 19,500 children are thought to have been stolen, while 1.6 million more are currently forced to live under occupation.

Children who have made it back have talked of being strip-searched, trained to handle guns, and taught to fear adults.

UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Apr 2 — Russian troops attacked Kharkiv with a Molniya drone — the strike hit a high-rise residential building in Kyivskyi district, injuring five people, including a 10-year-old.

Kharkiv is a city in the northeast of Ukraine, 20 miles from the Russian border. Russia targets it frequently with attacks from across the border and from occupied territories with glide bombs, drones, and other weaponry.

This Russian drone attack damaged three high-rise residential buildings and blew out 69 windows and 43 glass panes.

Last night, Russia also launched at least 15 drones at the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv, injuring nine people, including three children: a nine-month-old and 7-year-old boy and a girl aged 16. All injured got acute stress responses in the aftermath of the attack.  .  .  .

On or just before March 24, a quartet of Russian helicopters—two Mil Mi-8 transports and two Kamov Ka-52 gunships—landed at an austere base somewhere in Belgorod Oblast in western Russia.

Ukrainian special forces and the intelligence directorate in Kyiv were watching with at least one surveillance drone. One of the Ukrainian army’s U.S.-made High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System wheeled launchers took aim. “The target was engaged,” the special operations command reported.

Four 660-pound M30 rockets, each packing 180,000 tungsten fragments, rained down from as far away as 57 miles. All four helicopters appear to have been hit. A Russian soldier and at least one dog trotted out to inspect the damage.

Eight days later on Wednesday, that soldier’s video circulated online—and the Estonian analyst WarTranslated translated it. “Oh well, direct hit,” the soldier moaned as he inspected the shredded helicopters.

Speaking by phone to a comrade as he recorded his battle-damage assessment, the soldier narrated in an increasingly dire tone. “Kerosene is pouring out” of Ka-52 number 96, he reported. “Spillage in the front.”  .  .  .

Ukraine’s long-range drone strike force has focused much of its attention on Russian bomber bases. A triple-tap series of raids between January and March targeting Engels air base in southern Russia, 400 miles from Ukraine, destroyed a huge stock of bomber-launched cruise missiles costing nearly $1 billion.

The Tu-22Ms almost always conduct standoff raids, launching their cruise missiles from as far away as 600 miles. This keeps the Tu-22Ms out of range of Ukraine’s surface-to-air missiles—usually. But that doesn’t mean the bomber raids are totally safe for their crews.  .  .  .

Latest news about the Tu-22M3 crash

The crash of the Tu-22M3 rocket carrier-bomber in the Irkutsk region is surrounded by rumors, so we need to sort this out a little.

The defense of Bilohorivka has been primarily entrusted to the 81st Airmobile Brigade and the 54th Mechanized Brigade. Both units hail from nearby regions: The 81st Brigade's headquarters is located in Kramatorsk, and the 54th Brigade originates from Bakhmut. In late 2024, Colonel General Gennady Anashkin was dismissed as commander of the Southern Grouping of Forces for providing false reports about battlefield successes near Bilohorivka, leading to unprepared assaults, insufficient fire support missions, and significant casualties. As a result, several more commanders, including those of the 3rd Combined Arms Army fighting at Bilohorivka, were arrested and removed for exaggerating battlefield gains. Other Russian units operating in the region, including the 6th and 123rd Brigades, also underwent a replacement of their entire command staff due to these allegations, dealing a significant blow to the Russian command structure and further sabotaging all their offensive efforts, often leading to more suicidal assaults, as the new commanders were unfamiliar with the terrain, and the Ukrainian forces opposing them.

This enduring stalemate highlights the resilience and tactical ability of Ukrainian defenders, whose geographical knowledge and steadfast determination continue to thwart Russian advances, exacting a heavy toll on the enemy

Rybar is a prominent Telegram blog with more than 1.3 million subscribers and whose founder Mikhail Zvinchuk, a former military translator, was awarded the Order of Merit of the Fatherland Second Class by Putin in 2023.

Yet last month, it posted a scathing analysis of Russia’s changing demographics, using the Moscow suburb of Kotelniki to illustrate its point.

In a flashy, well-produced video, the channel pinpointed several areas where migrants had reportedly attacked residents. It also claimed that out of 8,000 local schoolchildren, only 50 per cent were ethnically Russian.

The clip said terrorist recruiters were active at a Moscow junk market where weapons and Russian passports could be bought, and identified the locations of “ethnic brothels” and illegal mosques.

It ends with the on-screen message: “So, who benefits from this breeding ground of Islamic radicals, Russophobes and bandits near the Russian capital?”  .  .   .

Today [ Apr 03, 8 pm ],  there is important news from the Russian Federation. Ukrainians achieved a massive success in the total amount of damages done to Russian oil infrastructure over the years. With the energy ceasefire in place, Ukrainians have a clear bargaining chip in their favor, threatening to restart the massive striking campaign if Russia dares to break the ceasefire. Many of these targets have been hit multiple times, with the Ryazan oil refinery being struck at least 9 confirmed instances over the last 15 months. According to estimates, up to 15% of Russia's daily oil-refining capacity has been disrupted, reducing output by up to 900,000 barrels per day. This reduction has led to an up to 30% surge in domestic fuel prices within Russia by mid-March 2025, prompting the Russian government to implement a 6 month gasoline export ban starting in March to stabilize domestic supply.

Military analysts revealed that just over a 6 month period from September 2024 to February 2025, Ukrainian drone and missile strikes resulted in at least US$658,000,000 in damages to Russian energy infrastructure. During this timeframe, Ukrainian forces destroyed 50 oil storage tanks and another 47 damaged. The most significant single strike occurred on October 7 in Russian-controlled Crimea, where 11 tanks with a total capacity of 69,000 cubic meters were destroyed in Feodosia, causing damage exceeding US$37,500,000 dollars.

With an estimated 15% of Russian refining capabilities destroyed before the ceasefire, this equates to over US$21 billion in missing revenue, as a Ukrainian strike drone only costs a few thousand dollars. Various analysts also state that many Russian refineries will not be repaired at all, due to the constant threat of Ukrainian drone strikes, the inability of the Russian military to adequately defend them, and the expectancy that the energy ceasefire will not last. Due to a shortage of skilled labor and Western sanctions on critical components, it is expected to take years for Russia to repair and fully restore its refining capacity to pre-war levels if the war and sanctions persist, resulting in an estimated US$63-105 billion in lost revenue.
