British PM Keir Starmer Says He Will Organize EU Ceasefire Security Force with France +2, and Count on U.S. Military Backstop From Trump

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is holding a Ukraine summit in London today with EU leaders, following two phone calls with President Trump.

According to the outline Starmer proposed on BBC News, following the disastrous Zelenskyy meeting in the White House, the British PM called President Trump and also Emmanuel Macron.  According to his statements, Starmer told Trump he would work with Macron +2 unidentified countries (a “coalition of the willing”), to organize an EU security force for a Ukraine ceasefire; then the group will require Trump to provide a U.S. troop “backstop” as an insurance policy.

Starmer completely ignores the NATO provocations against Russia that preceded the military operation by Vladimir Putin, instead blaming only the aggression of Putin for the expansion of NATO in Europe.

Clear Kremlin propaganda, right there, with that false premise, which in any measure does NOT justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine and all the atrocities that occurred afterward.

There were no provocations, except for Russia's neighboring countries clamoring for membership because they rightfully feared Vladimir Putin.  It is a defensive alliance after all, and there are a lot of steps for getting in, including a unanimous vote of all member countries.  Putin just uses that as a flimsy pretext for bullying and attacking his neighbors.

My reaction to this is the same as it has been for awhile. President Trump and his team knew, or strongly suspected, that this would go off the rails. If strong signals were picked up confirming a derailment was coming, Vice President Vance was primed to push back, which he did - and it did. President Trump knew full well a media and political firestorm would follow.  That firestorm would ultimately, per the calculation, result in a deal getting done and perhaps the removal of Zelenskyy.

The whole moment was rightly anticipated.

You do understand that the NATO alliance calls for all members to come to other members aid if attacked.
