Here are the main arguments Trump's lawyer made so far in his summation

Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche has tried to poke holes Tuesday morning in the case charging Trump with illegally fudging business records to cover up a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

Here are a few of the arguments the lawyer has made so far in a sprawling, two-and-a-half-hour closing statement.

— The prosecution’s star witness, Michael Cohen, is a “liar” whose word cannot be trusted.

— Cohen is the only person who gave first-hand testimony about Trump’s “intent” in 2016, when Daniels received the $130,000 hush money, Blanche argued. “What President Trump knew in 2016 you only know from one source, and that’s Michael Cohen,” Blanche said.

— The records were not “falsified” because they cited legal services and Cohen was Trump’s lawyer at the time. “The ‘scheme’ was to book a legal expense as a legal expense,” Blanche said. “That’s absurd.”

— Even the checks to Cohen signed by Trump are not evidence that Trump knew about the scheme, because Trump was “busy” running the country and did not always pay attention to what he was signing.

— Trump’s alleged hush money payments with the help of the National Enquirer were not a “conspiracy” to influence the campaign but rather the normal type of relationship with a media outlet that happens in every campaign. "Every campaign in this country is a conspiracy to promote a candidate,” he said.

— Stormy Daniels and her lawyer Keith Davidson were opportunists who tried to “extort” Trump with their story about Daniels’ sex tryst with the real estate mogul in 2006.

Prosecutors will deliver closing statements after the lunch break

Prosecutors will deliver their closing arguments when we return from the lunch break at around 2 p.m.

Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joshua Steinglass estimated their summations will take between four and four and a half hours, meaning the trial could go late today.

Before the break, Trump lawyer Todd Blanche wrapped up his closing statement, which clocked in at about 3.5 hours.

Trump raised his left hand in a fist but did not answer questions from reporters as he left the courtroom for lunch around 12:52 p.m.

The Trump campaign on Monday slammed the Biden-Harris press conference in New York City where actor Robert De Niro criticized the former president and his supporters

"After months of saying the politics had nothing to do with this trial, they showed up and made a campaign event out of a lower Manhattan trial day for President Trump. In fact, Biden's cronies had a printed out campaign sign saying Biden, Harris. So why the change?" Jason Miller, senior advisor to the Trump campaign told reporters Tuesday in Manhattan.

"President Trump's numbers continue to rise. And the best that Biden can do is roll out a washed up actor," Miller said.

"Last week, President Trump spoke in the Bronx where at over 25,000 people show up to rally around him. And the best the Biden campaign could do was put out a Web video with Robert De Niro. There is nothing behind the Biden campaign. Their numbers are in the toilet. Kamala Harris is a terrible alternative and it's all an attempt to try to turn around the Biden campaign," Miller said.

"This is all politics. If you don't think there's politics, why did the Democrats wheel out a retread like Robert De Niro to try to change the subject? You can see the look on the Biden campaign staffers faces. They knew this was a bad idea," he said .

Judge rips Trump attorney over 'outrageous' statement to jurors

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan ripped Trump attorney Todd Blanche for suggesting to jurors that the former president could be sent to prison if convicted.

Blanche, in his closing argument, had told the jury: "You cannot send someone to prison based on the words of Michael Cohen."

Prosecutors objected and the judge sustained it, striking the comment from the record, but jurors still heard it.

After jurors were sent out for lunch, prosecutors claimed the statement "was a blatant and wholly inappropriate effort to call sympathy for their client."

A furious Merchan told Blanche that, as a longtime attorney and former prosecutor, he should have known better than to make the "outrageous" and “highly inappropriate" comment -- as jurors are not allowed to take punishment into consideration when deliberating.

“That statement was outrageous,” the judge said.

“You know that making a comment like that is highly inappropriate. It’s hard for me to imagine that that was accidental.”

Merchan said he would talk to jurors about the exchange when trial resumes at 2 p.m.

Things are escalating between Trump and Biden supporters outside the courthouse — about 15 people altogether — with Biden fans chanting "anti Christ."

Trump supporters are blowing kisses at the other side, with some saying, “If Jesus loved you he would give you teeth.”

Police presence is increasing but they haven’t gotten involved.
