US military advisers invoke lessons of Iraq in urging Israelis to avoid all-out ground assault in Gaza

American military officials are trying to steer Israel away from the type of brutal, urban combat the US engaged in against insurgents during the Iraq War, in an effort to keep the Israelis from getting bogged down in bloody, house-by-house fighting as they prepare for an assault on Gaza, multiple sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

In helping the Israel Defense Forces game out a number of different strategies to defeat Hamas, US military advisers on the ground in Israel are invoking lessons learned specifically from Fallujah in 2004, one of the bloodiest battles of the Iraq War.

Instead of launching a full-scale ground assault on Gaza, which could endanger hostages, civilians, and further inflame tensions in the region, US military advisers are urging Israelis to use a combination of precision airstrikes and targeted special operations raids.

They are also drawing on strategies developed during the battle by US-led coalition forces to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul from ISIS, which relied more heavily on special operations forces. Like Hamas, ISIS built tunnels throughout Mosul and used civilians as human shields, and the fight to retake the city was harder and more drawn-out than anticipated.

To help deliver this message, the Biden administration has sent a three-star Marine Corps general to counsel the IDF on planning its tactical assault. Gen. James Glynn, the former commander of Marine Forces Special Operations Command, has significant experience with urban warfare in Iraq, particularly in Fallujah, where he commanded troops during some of the bloodiest fighting there between US forces and insurgents, officials said.

Unless Israel has continuous "Eyes in the Sky", the actual fighters that participated are long gone from the region...let alone Gaza Strip.

They utilized their maze of tunnel systems...many more than 22 ft below the surface and come up inside somebody's bedroom closet or the restroom at the petrol station.

The longer they take to respond, the more of them escape.

Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that while a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is a bad idea, “what Secretary Blinken said today at the United Nations, calling for a humanitarian pause in the military action so that we can try to find a more peaceful path, and especially right away, to get more hostages freed,” is the right way to go.

While discussing calls from some Democrats for a ceasefire, Pelosi said, “Well, first, let me just say that our priority right now is to get the hostages freed. Israel is taking Gaza down to dust, with bombings. Israel could not have done this six months before.
Hamas gave Israel the green light to destroy them.

Now, Israel has a free hand to blow the place into oblivion. Even if Hamas survives, they will rule over a trash dump.
Spy soldiers infiltrating. Everything is blown up, gone. When Israel said they will erase Hamas, they will.
But it does not necessarily mean what you think it means. Why risk soldiers when the result is the same or better.

Videos, eyewitness accounts and the IDF reveal the Gaza residents who followed Hamas terrorists into Israel were mostly "young men with knives, overweight dads, and at least one elderly man on crutches," confirms an investigative report from the Washington Free Beacon.

Rabble "spontaneously" joined the terrorists for an additional wave of atrocities, the report said.

IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus confirmed to the Washington Free Beacon that large numbers of Gazans who were not members of any terrorist group entered Israel and participated in the atrocities.

"They did what you say they did," he told the publication.

The actual extent of civilians' involvement in the murders of more than 1,000 Israelis isn't clear but the fact it happened has left Israelis living near Gaza convinced, "Coexistence is dead, and Gaza must be crushed," the report said.

"The second wave of Arabs who came into the country were just as cruel as the terrorists of the first wave," Eshkol Regional Council mayor Gadi Yarkoni told the publication. "We saw that it was not only Hamas who came to slaughter us. It was all the residents of Gaza, including people who worked in our kibbutzim."

Concerns about a clear, deliverable military objective for Israel in eradicating Hamas have added complexity to what is already a delicate situation as American officials have warned Israeli leaders not to repeat the same mistakes the U.S. did after 9/11.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday delivered a forceful defense of Israel's military actions but said that "humanitarian pauses must be considered" to protect civilians in Gaza -- the administration's strongest statement of a support for any type of halt in Israel's efforts to vanquish Hamas.

"First, we all recognize the right and indeed the imperative states to defend themselves against terrorism. That's why we must unequivocally condemn Hamas and its barbaric terrorist attack against Israel," the secretary began in remarks at the United Nations Security Council, repeating some of the atrocities committed during Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7.

"Parents executed in front of their children. Children executed in front of their parents. And so many taken hostage in Gaza," he said. "We have to ask -- indeed, it must be asked -- where's the outrage? Where's the revulsion? Where's the rejection? Where's the explicit condemnation of these horrors?"

Turkey's Erdogan calls Hamas a 'liberation group'

 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan referred to Hamas terrorists as a "liberation group" trying to protect the Palestinian people.

In an address to his ruling party’s legislators on Wednesday, Erdogan also said he has canceled plans to visit Israel as part of his country’s policy of normalizing its relations with the Jewish state, adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had “misused our goodwill.”

Erdogan sharpened his criticisms of Israel, describing the siege of Gaza as one of the "bloodiest, most disgusting and most savage attacks in history."

“We have no problem with the Israeli state, but we never have, and never will, accept the atrocities committed by Israel and the fact that it acts as an organization rather than a state,” he said.

The Turkish leader called for an immediate cease-fire, for humanitarian aid to be allowed into Gaza and for talks for the release of hostages to begin. He also suggested the establishment of an international peace conference for Israel and the Palestinians.

“All sides must pull their fingers off the trigger, a cease-fire must be declared,” he said.

A handwritten note found on the body of a Hamas terrorist encouraged the jihadists to remove the heads, hearts and livers of their Israeli victims, Israel’s military said.

Israel Defense Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Daniel Hagari was shown the horrific missive by an aide for the first time during an interview with CBS News.

“You must sharpen the blades of your swords and be pure in your intentions before Allah. Know that the enemy is a disease that has no cure, except beheading and removing the hearts and livers. Attack them!” the note reads in Arabic, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The orders came from Hamas leadership, which declared the religious importance of killing Jews and provided inspiration from historical Muslim leaders who massacred men, sold women and children into slavery, and looted cities.

Hagari reacted to the note by stressing the need to vanquish the terror group.

A group of George Washington University students projected giant antisemitic pro-Hamas messages onto a library less than a mile from the White House.

Photos posted online by watchdog group StopAntisemitism show messages including “Glory to our martyrs” and “Divest from Zionist genocide now” projected onto the side of the Gelman Library for around two hours.

The messages, in giant letters, also included “Free Palestine from the river to the sea,” a rallying cry of Hamas widely interpreted as calling for the annihilation of Israel.

Others read, “GW, the blood of Palestinians is on your hands” and “Your tuition is funding genocide in Gaza,” as well as one accusing university president Ellen Granberg of being “complicit in genocide in Gaza.”

Campus police ultimately ticketed four students who were sitting outside the library with projection equipment, according to video posted to X.

“There’s a time and place for it,” the officer told them.

At that point, one student in a black mask starts arguing with the officer, claiming he and his friends are not violating any student policy or law.

Turkey is a country north of Israel and could well be the one described in in times that invades Israel as the final act. Many say it is Russia, but Turkey also fits the description.
