As TSA agents continue to prove their incompetence in the “War on Terror,” the Department of Homeland Security is now allocating $1 billion in taxpayer funding to create a facial recognition program that will illegally scan Americans’ faces.

A study conducted by Georgetown Law’s Center for Privacy and Technology looked at the biometric scanners that are creating an inventory of the faces of individuals leaving the country at airports across the United States. While they are only at certain major airports right now, the full implementation of these scanners could cost Americans up to $1 billion.

The study noted that while the “9/11 Response and Biometric Exit Account” created by Congress has the funds for the program, “neither Congress nor DHS has ever justified the need for the program.”
My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

I'm not sure I understand your point.

Since the Constitution is the highest law of the land, from where I'm standing this is a clear violation of the 4th Amendment;

THAT, is all I need to understand its Illegality.

Is this the thing where they are just trying to spend all of their budget so they can ask for more next time?

I think they don't care about the legality of it.

How many terrorists has the TSA actually caught?

It must be a big number.

Difficult to track it changes so fast.

In the 16 or so years they've been around the list must be impressive even awe inspiring.

Then again it could be zero.

Yep it's zero.   And how many weapons do they miss?  Their own tests show they miss over 80% of weapons.

Not that we are planning on going anywhere, but maybe I should advise the wife to go ahead and let her beard grow out.

This may or may not be related or relative. The last time I got my DL renewed they had me take off my glasses, which I have to wear, for the license photo. They haven't ever done that before. Is it so my face can be uploaded correctly to a facial recognition database without my "disguise"?

I will Never forget, to my dying day, these Damn Fools trying to confiscate WWII fighter Ace Joe Foss' Congressional Medal of Honor, in its presentation box.

He was in his 80s, made him take off his cowboy boots 3 times, on his way to DC for another honors presentation.

Joe Foss might have tried to take over the plane by using his CMH as a weapon.

Morons had no idea what they even looking at.

How many terrorists has the TSA actually deterred?

Rephrased to the relevant question as pertains to security...and the answer is "all of them".

There is a reason our canines (and their Handlers) literally have a price on their heads...and that reason is that they deter attacks on our aircraft. And if you think the bad guys aren't still actively trying...these past 16 years...to replay 9/11...you are simply and categorically wrong.

There is much that is wrong with TSA, but without it in place more attacks would have occurred. Those with genuine access to intelligence know this to be true...unfortunately that intel can't be shared in a public forum.

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/02/us/joe-foss-ace-dies-at-87-also-led-football-league.html

Joe Foss is a true hero and was treated with full respect in Phoenix. He had a bullet and long metal nail file that couldn't go as carry ons...and he was allowed to mail them. His CMH was checked out as the initial searcher didn't know what it was. Once it became clear, he was thanked for his service and carried the medal with him on to the plane. I'm a war vet myself...and nearly 1/3 of agents are vets...nothing like Joe Foss of course...and would slam dunk anyone who treated a vet poorly at Sky Harbor. But agents must do their job to clear any and all suspicious objects...even if they are carried by true heroes like Mr. Foss.  Once they check items out, agents return them respectfully and passengers like Joe board their flight in safety.

There are bad apples everywhere...in every company and agency. And many things I'd like to see TSA do differently, but you're citing of this case is entirely wrong...a complete misstatement of what occurred.

More than 21% are military veterans...and many others former law enforcement. In my canine office we have 6 vets, 3 of whom are combat veterans...two others have Masters degrees and all are college graduates...you just plain don't know what you're talking about.

Bullshit.  I see those minimum wage flunkies they hire at the airport monthly.  I don't know where your boys are hiding.

Go look up the data yourself...its public information. Saying "Bullshit" is not an argument, its just asserting that you HAVE no argument...something you continue to make clear. The only part you got right in your statement was the "don't know" part.

And even if 100% of those 21% 25% of them who are Veterans behave and comport themselves impeccably, it in NO WAY excuses the wholesale abuses perpetrated by Others in the TSA.

Jobs in this country that come with the benefits, perks and Protections a Federal Employee gets are considered a catch.

Of course.

Nothing excuses abuses...and a work force of 40,000 will have abuses (ANY force of that size), though they are far from wholesale. In fairness, I witnessed far worse abuses in the Army than I've seen in the TSA. So yes, Vets and everyone else must always be held to account for what they do...and what they have done, in the big picture, is provide 16 years of terror free flight from U.S. airports. That is a huge accomplishment, and one that NOBODY thought possible on September 12, 2001.

This thread is about cameras illegally scanning/recording people's faces.

Ask the people of London how that's working out for them.

As the father of a TSA employee, I take umbrage at that remark. I’ve met and spoken with several of his coworkers, and they certainly do not fit your characterizations.

TSA surely has issues, but the vast majority earn their pay. Most of their issues would be resolved with better leadership, and you can say that about every branch and agency of the federal government.

Unfortunately for the TSA, they’re one of the most visible agencies of the federal government.

It started on that topic for certain.

Here's my view. I'm against it. Calling it illegal, however, is asserting/implying there is a law being violated...and I think that is not the case. If you think it is unconstitutional, that's another issue altogether...I'd assume the SC will consider "mass" scanning to violate the 4th amendment UNLESS the government can lay out an exigent necessity for it. Which I doubt it can do.

Why would you want to lay your hands on a postal carrier?

If you’re having issues with TSA employees, keep cool and ask to see a supervisor. They have a process and chain of command. Those who were in the military know first hand how it works.
