I'm going to make a controversial post here and I expect to be verbally abused ... but..
I think conservatives hurt our cause by getting all hung up on things that don't really matter like the current fad of young people worrying about what gender they are and bathroom stuff.
Those things may have some minor importance but it's minor and jumping all over them in a hysterical panic makes us seem like nut cases.
The one thing that does matter ... the thing that weakens the very moral fiber of our society is this rampant abortion.
We should concentrate on stopping that and laugh at all the other stuff.
I will disagree, in part. Hula hoops, pet rocks, beanie babies, fidget spinners, are all fads. They hurt no one except for the occasional person who does it wrong or goes nuts. Such excesses or lack of common sense would merely find another outlet, and again affect few despite the widespread acceptance of the fad.
While tinkering with social fabric may seem to move in waves, those effects run far deeper and last far longer than simple gadgets. Sixty genders? No. Him, Her, and "other" should suffice, and that would take in those few natural hermaphrodites out there. No need to redo the signs on the bathroom wall, no need to permit, much less 'celebrate' confusing children about what their plumbing means. If the boy wants to wear a skirt, get him a kilt and let him dress like Robert the Bruce or Bonnie Prince Charlie, don't tell him he's a girl in a boy's body.
It is important, because promoting confusion in children is never a good idea, and last generation's confusion was whether or not to be 'gay'. For most kids, there is no confusion, but there is a loss of trust, fundamental trust, not only in the sanity and judgement of their parents, but of their elders and even those in authority who cater to this nonsense. Nip that in the bud, and the little nippers will turn out okay. When parents embrace false teachings, who will the children look to for guidance?
That affects the very fabric of our society, and our culture. It is, ultimately, a moral issue.
Celebrate Bruce Jenner's self-mutilation and it only adds to the confusion. I can't recall how many times I sat down to breakfast and that man's picture was on the Wheaties box in front of me. I feel betrayed, personally, and I doubt I am the only one. Genetically, no matter what wounds or how they were inflicted, he is still male.
But that is just a reminder to be careful who you regard as a 'hero'. I have few, in this day and age, especially among the living. Kipling had that cold : "If all men count with you, but none too much."
Anyway one thing we do agree upon: Abortion should end yesterday. Systematic murder, especially murder for hire, cheapens the most fundamental God-given Right; that to Life, itself, and without which all other Rights are moot.
Have a pleasant day.
