I'm going to make a controversial post here and I expect to be verbally abused ... but..

I think conservatives hurt our cause by getting all hung up on things that don't really matter like the current fad of young people worrying about what gender they are and bathroom stuff.

Those things may have some minor importance but it's minor and jumping all over them in a hysterical panic makes us seem like nut cases.

The one thing that does matter ... the thing that weakens the very moral fiber of our society is this rampant abortion.

We should concentrate on stopping that and laugh at all the other stuff.

Sometimes taking a time out is the answer.  I made the last post to you before I realized that you'd had your feelings hurt by the Mods and I'm sorry if I contributed to your malaise.

I've experienced the same thing.  I've been cautioned when it was obvious to everyone in the known universe that I was the good person in the discussion and that everyone else was mean and stupid.

And it does hurt.  I also took a time out... I think mine lasted 3 days.  I have a short attention span.

Anyway, the mods have a hard job and I try not to get mad at them.

So do I.  Which is why I took a self imposed 'time out' when I got angry.  Unfortunately, I tried to come back Saturday, and everything seemed to be kaput here, and then we had family in for Memorial Day.

I just got back yesterday.

But I'm a big girl and have a pretty good perspective on things.  I've spent a great deal of time defending the Mods here for the great job they do.  And I will do so again, should the need arise.

It seems like the new rules are very broad brushes though, and individual posting histories are not factored in to the general discipline being meted out.....

Less than a week ago, I was specifically threatened by a different Mod 8 hours AFTER I apologized and left a little spat.  I took a self imposed time out to calm down because I didn't want to post when I was so angry at being treated like a child.  I am extremely self-disciplined, free to apologize, and have spent quite a bit of time defending the Mods for the great job they do.

I came back yesterday, made a few legitimate posts about not liking to be compared with King Herod and desiring the slaughter of children and am immediately told to shut up.

I get that there are problems here, but I am NOT the problem.  As I said, I apologize when I am in the wrong, but I don't feel the need to apologize when I am expressing legitimate thoughts on a legitimate subject after a heinous attack on the character of pro-lifers here on this forum.

Sorry.......... but one of the things I have most appreciated here is the freedom to express thoughtful, considered views without fear of reprisal.   And I'm not very good at being chastised when I haven't done anything out of line.  Never have been.

I may just take another time out.........

I wouldn't take any of this personally.  The mods said yesterday that everybody would be up for scolding, no exceptions.  I get the impression it isn't something they want to do, but something they have to do to keep the forum from dissolving into chaos.

That's how I took it too, @CatherineofAragon @musiclady, @Emjay.  I don't know about y'all, but the level of acrimony was just over the top ever since the election, and instead of being a political forum it was beginning to look like middle school.  People were so busy putting each other down, there wasn't much room for intelligent conversation.  I know you all tried, but there wasn't much room for good conversation. 

I'm finding the forum much more enjoyable today.  I hope they continue with whatever it is they're doing.

The left is dedicated to breaking down the social norms that made this country what is for over 240 years now.  Family, faith, beliefs in personal freedoms, speech and individuality...those things are offensive to the 60's radicals that have emerged as the 21st Century Liberal Democrat.

So the left embraces and pushes as normal...things that are not normal...homosexuality....gay "marriage"...abortion on demand...atheism...use of illegal drugs...pedophilia political correctness..."hate speech"...reliance on the government for your every want and need...and on and on...they embrace these things and make them the political agenda of the DNC in some misbegotten effort to create the Socialist Utopia that every other Socialist nation has failed to create.

Conservatism....traditional family beliefs...a strong religious belief...the entire Bill of Rights are the enemy to these people and so they sat out on a long march over 50 years ago with the mission to destroy those things in order to rebuild the country from the destruction Liberalism inherently wreaks.  They know for the most part that they can't make these changes with adults because most adults are already set in their belief system and can't be manipulated and molded.

So they go for the children.

It started with taking prayer out of schools and it has morphed exponentially from there...and now we have generations that have been indoctrinated into Liberalism and their destructive belief system without even knowing it.  It's preached in our schools...in our colleges and on our television sets now via the MSM and like a cancer it has spread to the point it could prove fatal.

Conservatism and the belief in the things that made this country survive when others failed is the chemotherapy to beat the cancer of Liberalism.

So no...it's not a minor thing when we are appalled when a parent allows their 8 year old son to identify as a girl and cross dress them...its a disturbing sign of a much larger problem and threat to our country.

And its something we should neither accept or rationalize as a "minor" thing.

The problem is that some of us are just sarcastic by nature, and it's probably hard for the Mods to distinguish between good natured ribbing and sarcasm, and nastiness.  I'm perfectly willing to mind my P's and Q's, but I do wonder what we're supposed to do when a group of us are accused of supporting the slaughter of children.....

Are we supposed to ignore it and not counter it?  Are we really supposed to let that kind of vicious attack go?  I suppose under the current new rules, we should just report those kind of attacks to the Mods and let them deal with it..... ??? 

At any rate, I'm not going anywhere, and I DO understand how annoying and downright stupid the personal sniping was getting.  If that can be controlled, I'm for it.

Why not?  If anyone is dense enough not to see right through those attacks for what they are, they're not going to understand your response anyway.  Don't respond, put them on ignore, don't read what they say when other people quote them.  Done.

For the record, I didn't respond to the person because of the things you've said.  But I believe a line of decency so obvious was crossed that I made a point to comment.

To me that's not sniping or bickering.  It's making a point that NEEDS to be made.

Some conservatives are socons.  Some aren't.  Beliefs are personal and not up for negotiation.

The transgender mess is out of control.  I'm not going to go along with the left's fantasy that people can change their sex at will, and I'm not going to humor mental illness.  A boy in a dress is not a girl.  He's a boy in a dress.

When parents are allowing their children to "decide" their sex, it's harmful to the children and to society as a whole.  How many genders are there now---over sixty? 

No, I'm not playing.  And no man is going to put on lipstick and size thirteen pumps and tell me that's what it means to be a woman.  Don't appropriate my sex.

Yes, I understand that in principle.  But when it is the poster who has the problem, I'm not sure how 'not making it about the poster' is even possible.

I think what I'll do is report these kinds of hideous attacks to the Mods and not respond at all.  There is no way that when one is personally smeared (as an individual or part of a group) that one can respond appropriately without involving the person who is doing the smearing.

What that means is, if the Mods aren't paying close enough attention, the smearer just gets away with maligning a large group of good people on the forum.

I have a hard time with that......

They have also destroyed the absolutes of life. Where there used to be right and wrong...good and evil...things were black and white...Liberalism has released those things with millions of shades gray where anything goes and morals are all conditional if not optional...and no one ever has to take the blame for their actions and never have to suffer the repercussions.

If I see someone quoting them, I don't read that post.  Even if it's a discussion I'm interested or actively involved in.  They cannot offend me any more, because I don't hear them.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, or what you should do.  I'm just saying that I have practically zero problems with personal attacks here.  My approach works for me.

My definition of conservatism is that one must encompass both fiscal and social areas; otherwise, one is not a true conservative no matter how one wishes to paint oneself.
