Back on topic.....

The real story here isn't that he avoided paying taxes, anyone would try to do that as much as possible....

..the real story is the almost one billion dollar loss, a massive amount for an enterprise of his size...

...which begs the question- who bailed him out?
That is an interesting question.  That is a massive loss and does beg the question of how he bailed himself out or who bailed him out.

From what I gather the losses came from his failed casinos in AC, the failed airline business and the purchase of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.

Trump as long spun these business failures as actually being business successes.

And I think that is why he is not releasing his returns.  Acknowledging that he isn’t the smartest and most successful business man in the world is too much for his ego.

Oh speaking of Atlantic City casinos, this came out the other day.

This is making a mountain out of a mole hill.  What Trump has done is the same thing I've done in the past.  I had some stock losses that I've written off for years.  No big deal.......

That's interesting, you took a billion dollar loss and had the Saudis bail you out?
http://www.nytimes.com/1995/04/12/business/trump-is-selling-plaza-hotel-to-saudi-and-asian-investors.html

(ie, it isn't the loss or avoiding taxes, but who bailed him out (which is something he had to have done over and over and over))/

In this case, the Saudis.

A couple of years prior, it was the government and New York banks who bailed him out for billions (see the other link above I posted)...

Soros bailed him out in 2008.

Really?  We'll see.  Trump has been selling himself as a brilliant businessman, yet had to write off A BILLION DOLLARS on a loss on a casino (where the house always wins).

The drumbeat on this will continue, calling into question Trump's finances until he actually releases his tax returns.

Actually, to me personally.....the point is Trump's credibility.  I previously thought that he had none.   This is just more confirmation of that.

LOL!   Why, the real estate market did, my friend!

Property values plummeted in the early 90's and it took a decade....as it did again in 2006's crash...to return that equity.

Fixed rates were 7+ in January, 2004 and rose over 2% by December of that year.

Google is your friend!

It was simple for a developer like Trump to declare a loss as he did back then, based upon appraised values in his portfolio.  The government gave him 20 years to recoup....he only needed 10.

...because he's a very smart man.     :tongue2:

And yet.....he then has the colossal nerve (ballz) to accuse someone else (Cruz) of being in bed with or indebted to Goldman Sachs.  Again....the Trumpist hypocrisy stuns and amazes me, even now.

And I was wondering when this came up in the debate, and even before when rumors of this was leaking - how could a multi millionaire get by without paying taxes for years? Well now we know.  And this is also the reason scores of contractors were not paid - not because they did poor work as Trump claimed in the debate, but because he didn't have the money to pay them.   And he called Cruz lying Ted?

Not the sharp businessman he paints himself to be, now is he.

LOL!   You're a funny guy, @NavyCanDo

Why not ask @Oceander to explain the difference between individual and business tax law?

That is, if he's worth his salt on the topic.

Yes, but Hillary supporters want to make this a big deal. This is why it is in the corrupt media and the leftist liberal democrats keep making this a issue. Hillary supporters want to hide her corruption.

We are at the stage in this election where anything and all
will be thrown against the wall.

You're funnier.  Trump has, repeatedly, trashed Americans who don't pay taxes.  (Most who don't are exempt because they make too little).

If you think those Big-Smith-wearing high school graduates who support your boy are going to care about arcane differences between various tax laws, you're dreaming.

All they hear is:  Trump paid no taxes for 20 years.

Hillary released 15 years of tax returns.

Trump hasn't released even ONE.

Like I said in another post, Maples got screwed big time in the divorce. Trump divorced her just before the clause in their pre-nup would have entitled her to more.  He was bored with her and had already moved on to a new model – Melania.

From what I'm reading, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, it doesn't appear that Trump broke any tax laws

The problem for him will be perception. In a time where the majority of the public believes that the rich are not paying their " fair share" of taxes this could be damaging.

I don't fault somebody for  wanting to pay as little as they have to. But  make no mistake the Democrats are going to use this for maximum advantage
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

US Tax Expert: NY Times and Clinton Crime Family Commit Criminal Act – Publish Donald Trump’s 1995 Tax Returns
http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/10/criminal-clintons-and-the-new-york-times-vs-trumps-legal-tax-loss-carry-forwards/
Jim Hoft Oct 2nd, 2016

Quote
US Tax Law permits taxpayers to avoid taxes within the parameters of the law. If it is true that Mr. Trump offset future profits with past tax loss carryforwards, he is smart in doing so and well within the parameters of the law.

Mr. Trump has every right to claim tax loss liabilities, if legit and is smart to do so.

It would be great if that was the case but it wasn't true in Trumps case. See the other links. He didn't work the market, he was bailed out by the government, the Saudis, and even Soros. He seems to prefer to run up debt and get bailed out than earn it.

I am not a fan or supporter of Trump...although I have been waiting for someone to leak this I find it appalling that people are pouring over someone's private tax returns.....God help us if this is what we've come to.

Not just someone, Mystery.  The possible next President.  I don't find it appalling at all.

Now, maybe if Trump was suggesting we look up porn sites .... that might be appalling.
Against stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.
