Sid Krofft, 1970s television legend who worked with his brother Marty on countless kiddie and variety shows, dies at 96Krofft's human-sized puppets first appeared on TV in the late 1960s when he and his younger brother Marty (who died in 2023) created the Banana Splits for Hanna-Barbera; from there, they split off and created the famously trippy
H.R. Pufnstuf,
Lidsville,
Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and
Land of the Lost for Saturday morning TV. From there, they moved to variety shows, including
Donny & Marie and the infamous
Brady Bunch Hour and
Pink Lady & Jeff, which did not feature the famous puppet suits. They remained prolific into the early 1990s (after the one Krofft show I grew up with, the 90s version of
Land of the Lost, ended its run); then they began a comeback in their 80s with the 2015 show
Mutt & Stuff and remakes of a handful of their earlier properties.
