IDF Pulls Back to Ceasefire Positions as Trump Agreement Takes Effect

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) pulled troops out of Gaza and withdrew to agreed ceasefire lines within the territory as a ceasefire with Hamas brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump took effect on Friday morning.

As long as we don't have an ROE that forces us to react with one arm tied behind our backs when Hamas comes at us (and they WILL come at us)...I have no problem with this.

Good point, which brings up the question *under whose command would our troops be under*...?

We have the Multinational Force and Observers Battalion from the 101st already over in the Sinai.

If it were me...I'd detail the troops for Gaza from that unit and put them under U.S. command.

US sends CENTCOM troops to Israel for Trump-brokered Hamas ceasefire monitoring
Service members to establish civil military command center
By Brie Stimson , Jennifer Griffin , James Levinson Fox News
Published October 10, 2025 5:00pm EDT

U.S. service members will arrive in Israel by Sunday to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire with Hamas, Fox News has learned.

The U.S. troops, all of whom come from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), will set up the civil military command center as the ceasefire unfolds, a senior U.S. official said.

Some of the service members are coming from the U.S. and some were already in the region. Most are with the Army.

They are experts in logistics, security, engineering and transportation.

None of the troops will be going into Gaza.

Navy Adm. Brad Cooper, head of CENTCOM, attended talks in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former White House advisor and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, a U.S. official confirmed.

Cooper then flew to Israel and is currently in the country.

And this is why there will never be peace until every single one of these people is destroyed.  Take the leash off of Israel.  Let them finish the war that Hamas started.

I do not believe any of this. The hostages will not be 'released'. Hamas will never end, without ultimate force. Any 'peace deal' with Hamas will be a farce.

I am also distrustful. Hamas is sure the hostages are the only reason Israel doesn't just wipe them out, so they won't release them, and Israel will fulfill their suspicions. This blows up before early next week.  Back to square one.

Trump promised not to let Israel break Gaza ceasefire to get deal
Axios, Oct 10, 2025

As negotiations for a Gaza peace deal approached the finish line, President Trump provided a personal guarantee he wouldn't let Israel abandon it and resume the war, two U.S. officials revealed in a briefing with reporters.

Why it matters: Trump's assurances were a key factor in convincing Hamas to take the deal, the sources say. The ceasefire is now officially in effect after Israel's cabinet approved the deal early Friday morning local time.

* The officials said that part of Trump's guarantee was the establishment of a U.S.-led military task force to oversee the ceasefire and address any violations.

The intrigue: A U.S. official told Axios one factor in the breakthrough was that "Hamas had started to see the hostages as a liability rather than an asset" in terms of its future negotiating position.

* With that in mind, the U.S. side came into this week's talks believing Hamas was now ready to free the hostages, and that they could ensure the Israelis stuck to their side of the bargain.

How Trump secured a Gaza breakthrough which eluded Biden
BBC, Oct 10, 2025

At the time, Israel's air strike against the Hamas negotiating team in Qatar seemed like yet another escalation that pushed the prospect of peace further away.

The attack on 9 September violated the sovereignty of an American ally and risked expanding the conflict into a region-wide war.

Diplomacy appeared to be in ruins.

Instead it turned out to be a key moment that has led to a deal, announced by President Donald Trump, to release all remaining hostages.

This is a goal that he, and President Joe Biden before him, had sought for nearly two years.

It is just the first step towards a more durable peace, and the details of Hamas disarmament, Gaza governance and full Israeli withdrawal remain to be negotiated.

But if this agreement holds, it could be Trump's signature achievement of his second term - one that eluded Biden and his diplomatic team.

Trump's unique style and crucial relationships with Israel and the Arab world appear to have contributed to this breakthrough.

A close relationship that Biden never had

[...]

Those public demonstrations of support may have given Trump the room to exert more pressure on Israel behind the scenes. According to reports, Trump's negotiator, Steve Witkoff, browbeat Netanyahu in late 2024 into accepting a temporary ceasefire in exchange for the release of some hostages.

When Israel launched strikes against Syrian forces in July, including bombing a Christian church, Trump pressured Netanyahu to change course.

Trump exhibited a degree of will and pressure on an Israeli prime minister that is virtually unprecedented, says Aaron David Miller of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. "There is no example of an American president literally telling an Israeli prime minister that you're going to have to comply or else." [...]

The Israeli missile attack in Doha, which killed a Qatari citizen but no Hamas officials, prompted Trump to issue an ultimatum to Netanyahu. The war had to stop.

Trump had given Israel a relatively free hand in Gaza. He lent American military might to Israel's campaign in Iran. But an attack on Qatar soil was a different matter entirely, moving him towards the Arab position on how best to end the war.

Several Trump officials have told the BBC's US partner CBS this was a turning point which galvanised the president to exert maximum pressure to get a peace [...]

Less than a month after that Israeli strike on Doha, Trump sat nearby as Netanyahu personally phoned Qatar to apologise. And later that day, the Israeli leader signed off on Trump's 20-point peace plan for Gaza - one that also had the backing of key Muslim nations in the region.

If Trump's relationship with Netanyahu gave him the room to pressure Israel to strike a deal, his history with Muslim leaders may have secured their support, and helped them convince Hamas to commit to the deal.

"One of the things that clearly happened was that President Trump developed leverage with the Israelis, and indirectly with Hamas," says Jon Alterman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

"That made a difference. His ability to do this on his timing, and not succumb to the desires of the combatants has been a problem that lot of previous presidents have struggled with, and he seems to do relatively successfully."

As the War in Gaza Comes to a Close, Netanyahu Needs to Resign Over the October 7 Massacres
Haaretz, Oct 10, 2025, Nehemia Shtrasler

[...]

This week is also a special week because of two anniversaries – the Yom Kippur War of 1973 and the October 7 war. Both were difficult wars characterized by an erroneous idee fixe and a horrific surprise.

On October 6, 1973, I had been demobilized from the army following a long term of service in the Sinai Peninsula. I was certain back then that Egypt would never succeed in crossing the Suez Canal, and that the war would be over in a day or two. After all, Prime Minister Golda Meir had said just that week that "our situation has never been better," and the heads of the army had said the canal was the best anti-tank barrier in the world.

The chief culprit in the surprise attack was the head of Military Intelligence, Eli Zeira. He developed the idea that Egypt wouldn't go to war as long as it had no answer to Israel's supremacy in the air.

The same thing happened in the October 7 war. Military Intelligence Director Aharon Haliva (who has since resigned) was the chief culprit in Hamas' surprise attack. He, too, developed an idee fixe – that Hamas had transitioned to worrying about economic development rather than war. In his great arrogance, he gave up on running agents in Gaza, ignored suspicious signs and easily fell into Hamas' web of deceit.

In both cases, our intelligence agencies failed in their primary mission – providing early warning of attacks. But such failures are unavoidable. Intelligence agencies always build a concept and then defend it, while ignoring anything that contradicts it.

But in the political realm, the difference between these two wars is enormous. While Meir set up a state commission of inquiry, accepted responsibility and resigned less than a year after the war began, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has clung to power. He refuses to recognize his own responsibility and blames the IDF, the Shin Bet security service and everyone else in the world. He himself is pure as the driven snow.

Meir said that she wasn't a military expert, and therefore, needed the experts' advice. Netanyahu, in contrast, has proclaimed himself "Mr. Security," someone who understands the field better than anyone else. Consequently, he bears greater responsibility.

He also played a significant role in developing Military Intelligence's erroneous concept. He disseminated the fairy tale that Hamas was deterred and wouldn't attack us. He even let it receive suitcases full of cash from Qatar, which it used to buy weapons that were used against us.

The war that began in 2023 was the worst since 1973. Following the shocking massacre in southern Israel, Netanyahu dragged us into the longest war in our history and turned Israel into a boycotted pariah state whose economy is in danger. If Meir resigned, it's simply not possible for the most despicable man in the history of the Jewish people to remain in office.

I don't think we'll ever bomb Israel, but Trump does seem to be telling Netanyahu he's no longer the only game in town and Trump is willing to isolate him --- a FAFO moment ---

You mean 'including Hamas', right?  Getting Trump to the table was never an issue.  It is only because of Netanyahu's resolve that we have reached this point.  Except now we'll have US troops in Israel to protect Hamas from annihilation at the hands of Israel.

The ONLY thing that got Hamas to this point is the Israeli offensive into Gaza and the attack in Doha.

I wish I could disagree but I can't..Hamas will never relinquish their weapons...

Anyone reading their Charter or listening to their words knows that.  Hamas will not abide a Jewish State on 'muslim' lands.  The fate of these lands is not up for negotiation.  Their sole political weapon is jihad.  They've told you that every single day for the past quarter century.

Palestinians travel back to northern Gaza

Palestinians who left northern Gaza during the many periods of fighting there were seen trekking back to the area on Friday, carrying what they could, images showed.

Pictures showed streams of people moving north on Rashid Street, a coastal road that links the northern and southern parts of the Palestinian territory.

Many people were seen moving on foot while others were traveling in cars or smaller vehicles.

Last month, Israel's military ordered the evacuation of Gaza City in the northern part of Gaza.

Images from Gaza City on Friday showed sweeping devastation.

Witkoff applauds Trump for brokering Gaza peace deal, drawing cheers from crowd

Special envoy Steve Witkoff, flanked by Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, speaks
to the crowd at Hostages Square in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Saturday.

Special envoy Steve Witkoff gave credit to President Donald Trump for brokering phase one of ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, telling a crowd in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square, “We all owe a debt of deep gratitude to President Trump.”

“In the worst of times, he refused to accept the idea that peace in the Mideast was out of reach,” Witkoff added. “He brought together nations once divided by generations of conflict and showed us that shared peace is stronger than shared pain.”

The crowd interrupted Witkoff’s remarks a few times with chants of “Thank you, Trump.”

Witkoff also thanked Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — which drew boos from the crowd — and Arab leaders for coming together to make the deal possible.

The special enjoy also recognized the families of hostages.

“Each and every one of you have carried the moral weight of this nation,” Witkoff said. “Your courage has moved the world and has touched me in ways that I have never been touched before in my entire life.”

He went on to deliver a message to the hostages, saying, “You are coming home.”

“Your faces, your names, your stories have lived in every heart here tonight and in mine since I began this job,” Witkoff added. “Your endurance, your faith, your will to live have been symbols of the human spirit that cannot ever be broken.”

He continued: “And now, as your return to the embrace of your families and your nation, know that all of Israel and the entire world stands ready to welcome you home with open arms and endless love.”

Thousands of Israelis arrive at Hostages Square awaiting release of captives

Thousands of Israelis arrived in Tel Aviv at Hostages Square awaiting the release of the hostages following the approved ceasefire deal.

Former hostages, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner as well as special envoy Steve Witkoff are addressing the crowd.

The exact timing of when the hostages will be released is unknown, but a source familiar with the matter said their release could happen overnight local time Sunday into Monday. The final agreed-upon deadline is Monday at 12 p.m. local time.

Trump is expected to be in Israel Monday, where he is set to address the Israeli parliament, visit Egypt and hold a summit with various international leaders.

Jared Kushner praises Trump and Witkoff for their role in the Gaza ceasefire deal

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner took time to praise US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump for their efforts in the approved Gaza ceasefire framework.

“It’s been an honor for me to work with such a special man who’s approached this impossible task with a full heart and with a full commitment,” Kushner said of Witkoff.

Kushner also highlighted his father-in-law’s “commitment to seeing peace, to seeing the hostages return home, to seeing Israel secure and safe and to seeing the entire Middle East stable and thriving.”

Following this comment, the large crowd could be heard chanting “thank you Trump.”

Ivanka Trump recognizes families of hostages: “I am in awe by their strength”

Ivanka Trump, President Donald Trump’s daughter, recognized the families of hostages and applauded their strength as she spoke to crowd in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square.

“Tonight, as we stand here together in Tel Aviv, we honor the strength of every family waiting, praying and believing,” Trump said, later added: “I am in awe by their strength and conviction in spite of such suffering.”

Her husband, Jared Kushner, worked alongside special envoy Steve Witkoff to help finalize the first phase of an Israel-Hamas ceasefire plan.

Trump went on to say that the return of hostages is a “triumph of faith, of courage and of our shared humanity.”

She also delivered a message from the president: “He sees you, he hears you, he stands with you always.”

In response, the crowd chanted, “Thank you, Trump.”

Clearly, it was a very very stupid idea for Gaza to launch a war against Israel.

US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner toured Gaza along with IDF officials

Awe are hearing from US envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Tel Aviv Hostages Square now, the IDF said in a statement that they earlier toured Gaza with officials from the Israel Defense Forces, US Central Command (CENTCOM) and others.

A US official earlier today had confirmed to CNN that Witkoff and CENTCOM visited Gaza.

Here’s who was part of the tour with Witkoff and Kushner:

* IDF Chief of the General Staff LTG Eyal Zamir

* US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Adm. Brad Cooper

* Israel’s Commander of the Southern Command MG. Yaniv Asor

* Head of the Planning Directorate MG. Eyal Harel, and additional commanders

The group also visited a hostage center that is being prepared to receive those released from captivity over the next few days, the statement said.

Later, Zamir and Cooper “held a joint panel with senior IDF commanders,” where they discussed the operational situation along the new lines for Israeli troops in Gaza as agreed to in the deal, the statement said. CENTCOM and IDF remain in contact regarding “planning and implementation of the agreement,” the statement added.

Netanyahu booed when he was mentioned by Witkoff during speech

Boos sounded in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square when US envoy Steve Witkoff mentioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s name earlier in a speech.

Facing a square packed with thousands of Israelis waving American flags, Witkoff elicited a roar of applause every time he mentioned US President Donald Trump. But when Witkoff tried to speak about Netanyahu, the crowd responded with waves of boisterous boos.

When Witkoff tried to express gratitude to the Israeli leader and his chief negotiator, Ron Dermer, the crowd interrupted time and again, until Witkoff finally interjected, “Guys, let me finish this thought; believe me, they had a central role here.”

For context: Netanyahu’s critics have accused him of prolonging the war, deflecting responsibility for security failures around the October 7 attacks, and for repeatedly sabotaging negotiations around the hostages’ release and the end to the war. Unlike Witkoff and Kushner, he has never visited Hostages Square, which has been the central point of gathering in the past two years.

Vance says Israeli hostages should be released ‘any moment now’
by Sarah Fortinsky - 10/12/25 10:30 AM ET

Vice President Vance said on Sunday that the 20 remaining living hostages should be released from Gaza “any moment now” as the president prepares to travel to the Middle East to welcome them home.

“It really should be any moment now, Kristen,” Vance told Kristen Welker in an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” when asked for the exact timing of their release.

“The president of the United States is planning to travel to the Middle East to greet the hostages Monday morning, Middle Eastern time, which should be late Sunday night or very early Monday morning here in the United States,” he continued.

“So you can’t say exactly the moment they will be released. But we have every expectation… that he will be greeting the hostages early next week,” the vice president added, noting that’s the reason President Trump is traveling to the Middle East.

Trump will depart Sunday afternoon for Israel to address its legislature, the Knesset, Monday morning local time before traveling to Egypt for a peace ceremony to welcome the remaining hostages.
