https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2025/jul/30/tsunami-alert-pacific-islands-japan-russia-magnitude-8-earthquake-follow-live-updatesTsunami updates live: Central and South American authorities order evacuations; volcano in Russia starts erupting after earthquake off Russian coastThis massive quake triggered a volcano that is some 200 miles northeast of the naval and air bases at Petropavlovsk. Air traffic will certainly be impacted by airborne volcanic debris.
The base is in the immediate vicinity of the quake and it certainly received damage from the four meter (13/14 feet) tsunami that rolled in within about fifteen minutes of the temblor.
The Russians, of course, deny that any damage occurred. IMHO that's patently impossible that
no damage took place when the sea rose 13-14 feet.
It is entirely expected that several Russian navy ships will be damaged or destroyed by the tsunami.
