Israel approves plan to capture all of Gaza, calls up tens of thousands of reserve troops: report
Israel intends to root out Hamas from southern Gaza

Israeli officials approved a plan to capture all of Gaza and hold it indefinitely on Monday, hours after the military announced it was calling up tens of thousands of reserve troops, the Associated Press reported.

Israeli Cabinet ministers approved the plan in an early morning vote on Monday. Israel currently controls roughly 50% of Gaza, and the plan would see Israeli forces expand into the south. Officials said the plan is set to be implemented gradually, with Israeli forces rooting out Hamas control over territories.

The plan would also seek to prevent the militant Hamas group from distributing humanitarian aid, which Israel says strengthens the group’s rule in Gaza. It also accuses Hamas of keeping the aid for itself to bolster its capabilities. The plan also included powerful strikes against Hamas targets, the officials said.

Violence in Gaza has ramped up once again in the weeks since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed in March. The IDF has also vowed to increase operations against the Houthis in Yemen after the terrorist group fired a missile that landed near Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport.

This is why the Palestinian Arabs can't have nice things - they spend all the International Aid money on rockets and tunnels.

Well, the Israelis already had it all but gave it back because of Biden, Blinken, and Sullivan.  Now they got to pay for the same ground twice.

Israeli Cabinet ministers approved a plan early Monday to take over the Gaza Strip for an unspecified period of time, a move that dampens hopes of a ceasefire with Hamas in the near term.

Israeli officials suggested the plans, which would mark a sharp turn away from talks proposing an Arab-led transition in Gaza, would not be put into action until after President Trump’s planned Middle East visit later this month.

Israeli officials suggested the plans, which would mark a sharp turn away from talks proposing an Arab-led transition in Gaza, would not be put into action until after President Trump’s planned Middle East visit later this month.

Two Israeli officials confirmed the plans to The Associated Press, as well as other outlets, saying the goal is to increase pressure on Hamas to free hostages held in Gaza and to isolate the militant group from civilian populations to aid in Israel’s goal in destroying Hamas entirely.

Israeli officials also said it would also facilitate aid to civilians, which has been halted for two months under an Israeli siege.

Critics are calling the new plans an occupation, saying there’s little hope for the surviving hostages if Israel follows through.

Israel left the Strip in Sept 2005..as proposed by PM Sharon and agreed to by the Knesset in 2003.

Many hold the opinion that Israel physically removed its settlements and citizens in 2005 and continued its control of the region through restrictions on armaments, employment, travel, electricity, clean water, health care and food.

Israel tried to give Gaza to Egypt. Egypt refused because they do not want anything having to deal with vicious murderous so-called 'Palestinians'.

Israel tried to give Gaza to the PLO. The PLO then gave it to Iran/Hamas who turned it into a giant armed military base aimed at Israel.

Israel wants nothing to do with Gaza. But, the other Arab States have given them no choice. Gaza will never be what it was before Oct 7 again. They shot their chance at a military conquest of Israel and failed. They will never get another chance.

Level gaza and drive the palis out (again, Somalia would be a good location for them).
EVERYONE removed and gone.

Grind everything that remains down to sand.
Leave it that way for 30-40 years.

Then annex it to Israel and turn it into their "southwestern garden"...

If Gaza wanted to be a true country and not a terrorist haven, it would have happened long ago. I keep thinking the Palis will rise up and say no more and boot Hamas. Maybe they are too beaten down and fed too much propaganda. But Israel taking control of the region could very well be the best thing that could happen. For the Palis and Israel.

It takes two sides to make peace @verga, just as it takes two sides to make war.    Given that the Six Day War is in its 58th year, I think it's safe to assume there will no peace, and both sides are okay with it.

Israel has had control of the Gaza Strip for decades.   How's it working out?

@Right_in_Virginia Run the numbers. Israel si the only democracy in the area.

Israel is another theocracy in the region.

Quote
Basic Law: Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People (Hebrew: חוֹק יְסוֹד: יִשְׂרָאֵל—מְדִינַת הַלְּאוֹם שֶׁל הָעַם הַיְּהוּדִי), informally known as the Nation-State Bill (חוֹק הַלְּאוֹם) or the Nationality Bill, is an Israeli Basic Law that specifies the country's significance to the Jewish people. It was passed by the Knesset—with 62 in favour, 55 against, and two abstentions—on 19 July 2018 (7 Av 5778)[2][3] and is largely symbolic and declarative in nature.

The law outlines a number of roles and responsibilities by which Israel is bound in order to fulfill the purpose of serving as the Jews' nation-state. However, it was met with sharp backlash internationally and has been characterized as racist and undemocratic by some critics. After it was passed, several groups in the Jewish diaspora expressed concern that it was actively violating Israel's self-defined legal status as a "Jewish and democratic state" in exchange for adopting an exclusively Jewish identity. The European Union stated that the Nation-State Bill had complicated the Israeli–Palestinian peace process, while the Arab League, the Palestine Liberation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Muslim World League condemned it as a manifestation of apartheid.

Basic Principles

A. The land of Israel is the historical homeland of the Jewish people, in which the State of Israel was established.

B. The State of Israel is the national home of the Jewish people, in which it fulfills its natural, cultural, religious, and historical right to self-determination.

C. The right to exercise national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people.

Israel is another theocracy in the region.
Lived in Israel for years. It is as far from a theocracy as the moon. Homosexuals, drugs/alcohol, every perversion, every religion on Earth exists freely in Israel. The State according to its very foundation is Judeocentric, but it is very, very, far from a theocracy. In fact, the biggest motivator for protests and riots in Israel is any hint of theocracy creeping into the government.

Most people do not understand that the majority of Israelis are emphatically and very passionately anti-religion of any kind. However, they are simultaneously pro-Jewish and honor most Jewish traditions as a heritage, not as a religion.

Well, this reaction didn't take long.

We do Israel no favors by running from a full and honest discussion about the Israeli/Palestinian long conflict. Until both sides are satisfied they've spilled enough blood, there will be no peace.

And, without the hope of peace, what are we trying to accomplish?

You got that right.  Israel is about as secular as it gets.

Israel is also the only country in the region that offers citizenship to Palestinians.

True.  But the highest class of citizenship is reserved for one group and membership is based on religion.

From July 2018:

Basic Principles

A. The land of Israel is the historical homeland of the Jewish people, in which the State of Israel was established.

B. The State of Israel is the national home of the Jewish people, in which it fulfills its natural, cultural, religious, and historical right to self-determination.

C. The right to exercise national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people.

Quote
Israel's parliament has passed a controversial law characterising the country as principally a Jewish state, fuelling anger among its Arab minority.

The "nation state" law says Jews have a unique right to national self-determination there and puts Hebrew above Arabic as the official language.

Arab MPs reacted furiously in parliament, with one waving a black flag and others ripping up the bill.

Israel's prime minister praised the bill's passage as a "defining moment".

"A hundred and twenty-two years after [the founder of modern Zionism Theodore] Herzl made his vision known, with this law we determined the founding principle of our existence," Benjamin Netanyahu said.

[...]

Among its 11 provisions, it describes Israel as "the national home of the Jewish people" and says the right to exercise national self-determination there is "unique to the Jewish people".

It also reiterates the status of Jerusalem under Israeli law, which defines the city - part of which is claimed by the Palestinians as the capital of a future state - as the "complete and united... capital of Israel".

Controversially, the law singles out Hebrew as the "state's language", effectively prioritising it above Arabic which has for decades been recognised as an official language alongside Hebrew.  It ascribes Arabic "special status" and says its standing before the law came into effect will not be harmed.

In one of its clauses, the law stresses the importance of "development of Jewish settlement as a national value", though it is unclear whether this also alludes to settlement in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Why was this law created?

The question of Israel's status as a Jewish state is politically controversial and has long been debated. Before now, it has not been enshrined in law.

Some Israeli Jewish politicians consider that the founding principles of Israel's creation, as a state for Jews in their ancient homeland, are under threat and could become less relevant, or obsolete, in the future.

Fears over the high birth-rate of Israeli Arabs, as well as possible alternatives to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict which could challenge Israel's Jewish majority, have spurred on calls to anchor the Jewishness of Israel in law.

The issue of Israel as a Jewish state has become increasingly important in recent years and a key dispute between Israel and the Palestinians.

Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly insisted that the Palestinians must recognise Israel as a Jewish state in any final peace settlement. He argues that the Palestinians' refusal to do so is the biggest obstacle to peace, saying it demonstrates that the Palestinians do not genuinely recognise Israel's right to exist.
