FBI searching for operator of privately owned drone that punched hole in Canadian firefighting plane

Officials with FBI Los Angeles are searching for the operator of a privately owned drone that collided with a Canadian plane assisting with California wildfire suppression.

Akil Davis, FBI assistant director in charge of the Los Angeles Field Office, confirmed a Canadian Air "Super Scooper" aircraft that was helping to extinguish California wildfires on Thursday was damaged after colliding with a privately owned drone over the Palisades Fire.

The crash left a 3-inch-by-6-inch hole in the plane's wing, according to Davis.

Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) claimed Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that President-elect Donald Trump was politicizing wildfires in Southern California.

OK, let me get this right.  Gavin Newsom took time away from doing his job as governor in the middle of the worst wildfire crisis to hit Southern California so that he could go on 'Meet the Press' to complain about someone politicizing the crisis?  Seriously?

Honestly a bunch of accusations are being made by people who don't have a command of the facts.  A congressional commission should be formed to evaluate the state and local disaster preparedness.  Maybe their best recommendation is to provide minimal services in the hills surrounding the LA basin.  It seems impractical to spend tens of billions of public dollars on water systems so millionaires can live in disaster zones.

The devastating wildfires tearing through Los Angeles have revealed a shocking new twist: the man caught attempting to start a fire near the Kenneth Fire is an illegal immigrant.

Mexican national Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva was apprehended Thursday after Calabasas residents saw him walking with a yellow blowtorch in hand. Eyewitnesses described Sierra-Leyva as determined, with one neighbor recalling he repeated, “I can’t stop. I’m doing this.”

California Democrats' are proving again, that they are pro-crime with their naked malfeasance.

The Democrat Party hates America, and are enabling illegal alien arsonists in California.

@JunkScience
Here's the smoking gun explanation for how greens and their policies bear blame for the Los Angeles fire disaster:

1. The @LATimes reports:

"The Santa Monica mountains, Malibu canyons and other wildland areas near coastal Los Angeles generally burn too frequently, said Alexandra Syphard, senior research ecologist at the nonprofit Conservation Biology Institute and adjunct professor at San Diego State University. That’s caused native evergreen chaparral shrubs, which take several years to mature and make new seeds, to be replaced by invasive annual grasses that die in the early summer and catch fire more easily, said Helen Holmlund, biology professor at Pepperdine University. “That promotes more frequent fires which, in turn, leads to more loss of chaparral shrubs and more invasive species,” she said." https://latimes.com/environment/story/2025-01-13/could-brush-clearance-have-helped-slow-the-spread-of-the-palisades-fire

2. Here's why the Santa Monica Mountains still burn "too frequently":

"During the late '50s and early to mid '60s, a number of development proposals for the Santa Monica Mountains alarmed the public, newly sensitized to environmental issues by cultural touchstones like Rachel Carson’s "Silent Spring." In an effort to reduce pollution and stop the private home use of smog causing trash  incinerators, one city councilman proposed filling many of the ranges’ canyons with city landfills. These landfills would then be converted into golf courses with developments around them. Caltrans proposed major freeways that would run through Malibu Canyon. A nuclear power plant was also proposed for Malibu. The beaches of Santa Monica and Malibu were being transformed from egalitarian public playgrounds into private havens of the ultra-rich and the comfortably retired. According to Edmiston, a short film that documented the leveling of mountains to create the Beverly Glen neighborhood caused a sensation, as did an article in Frontier magazine claiming that the creation of Beverly Glen signaled the end of the Santa Monica Mountains. In different pockets of Los Angeles, public dissent began to brew, and the idea of protecting the mountains by turning them into a chain of public parks began to be floated. Across the political and sociological spectrum, the cast of “who” began to take shape, eventually numbering in the thousands." https://x.com/JunkScience/status/1878192699511365728

3. Summary: The greens blocked development of the Santa Monica Mountains, allowing them to continue to  burn frequently leading, in turn, to more brush that provided the fuel for the foreseeable events of fire and the Santa Ana winds.

FIRE: Mayor Bass knew BEFORE leaving the country that LA was facing a major risk of fire AND she knew her Deputy Mayor for Public Safety was on leave after threatening to blow up City Hall. How on earth could she have decided to leave the country given those facts?

 By  THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Updated 8:15 AM CST, January 13, 2025

After making some progress battling wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least 24 people in the Los Angeles area, firefighters are preparing for a return of dangerous winds that could again stoke the flames on Monday.

Here’s what to know:

Containment: In all, four fires in the area have consumed more than 62 square miles (160 square kilometers), an area larger than San Francisco. As of Monday morning, the Palisades Fire was 11% contained and containment on the Eaton Fire reached 27%. Those two blazes alone accounted for 59 square miles (nearly 153 square kilometers).

Death toll rises: The death toll rose to 24 over the weekend. At least 16 people were missing as of Sunday evening, a number authorities said was also likely to rise.

Wind forecasts: The National Weather Service issued red flag warnings for severe fire conditions through Wednesday, with sustained winds of 50 mph (80 kph) and gusts in the mountains reaching 70 mph (113 kph). The most dangerous day will be Tuesday, a fire analyst said.

LA Fires live: Pressure grows on Mayor as broken promise is revealed

The death toll of the Los Angeles fires swelled to at least 24 people as mayor Karen Bass continues to be slammed for her handling of the tragedy.

It has now emerged that Bass, who was in Ghana when the fires started, had promised to not take trips abroad as mayor when she was campaigning, as reported by The New York Times.

On Thursday firefighters are working to contain three active fires ahead of a predicted return of high winds that will make the conditions extremely dangerous again.

The wildfires have now burned more than 40,000 acres and forced 150,000 people to evacuate.

Of course, land investors, who want to buy up burned out properties intending rebuild in fire-resistant ways will all be called "speculators" and vilified by the Left, along with any actual speculators who figure they can buy the land, sit on it, and resell it either after the market forgets the fires enough that the price rises or after building something cheap and slapdash on it.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Presumed cause of the Los Angeles fires
4h •

US investigators believe that a power line, which can withstand wind speeds of up to 90km/h, was outdone at 150km/h, causing the line to fall and sparks to fly.

Fires continue to devastate parts of Los Angeles, including the upscale Pacific Palisades district, where dozens of victims have been reported.

Authorities are trying to determine the cause of the fires and, while they're not ruling out the possibility of arson, one theory that is gaining ground is that overhead power transmission and distribution cables, shaken or blown down by strong winds, may have produced sparks that ignited the dry vegetation below.

The region's public-sector power companies usually cut power in the event of “alerts” such as the Santa Ana winds, but this wasn't the case this time.

According to the latest information, the Santa Ana winds are set to blow with renewed force. At least until Wednesday.

To Rebuild Fast, Newsom Halts Environmental Rules
Story by Jenn Gidman • 1h

With massive rebuilding needed in the Los Angeles area after a series of devastating wildfires, including the deadly Palisades Fire, Gov. Gavin Newsom has already made a big move to expedite that process. The New York Times reports that Newsom has given his OK to a "broad" executive order that suspends the state's rigid environmental rules so that people and businesses can start over. The three-page directive "to help Los Angeles rebuild faster and stronger" waives permitting and environmental review mandates under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and California Coastal Act to help residents pull their lives back together more quickly.

Protections against price gouging on building materials and related construction have also been extended through next January in Los Angeles County. "We've got to let people know that we have their back," Newsom said, per the AP. "We want you to come back, rebuild, and rebuild with higher-quality building standards, more modern standards." The Times notes that building in the Golden State is more time consuming and costly than in most other states, a major factor that has contributed to California's lack of affordable housing. Years can be tacked on to even small development projects, as builders need to submit to environmental reviews that look at noise, traffic, wildlife, and other aspects before a sign-off is achieved.

LAFD’s $300K-per-year diversity chief sparks fury for defending DEI by blaming the victim: ‘He got himself in the wrong place’

As Los Angeles battles its worst fire in history, fire department’s highly-paid diversity head is facing an inferno of backlash after a bizarre comment surfaced in which she appears defend DEI hiring by blaming victims.

In a video defending the department’s DEI hiring practices, Deputy Chief Kristine Larson — who heads the Equity and Human Resources Bureau — addressed accusations that female firefighters aren’t strong enough carry a man out of a burning building.

Her response: “He got himself in the wrong place if I have to carry him out of a fire.”

The video went viral on social media after the fire department was caught off-guard and ill-prepared when an outbreak of wildfires began to tear through the Pacific Palisades — one of the oldest and wealthiest neighborhoods in the city — last week.
