Weapon recovered on CEO murder suspect appears to be 'ghost' gun made on 3-D printer: police

The gun found on the suspect in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson appeared to be a "ghost gun" that may have been made on a 3-D printer, authorities said Monday.

The New York Police Department said Luigi Mangione was taken into police custody in Pennsylvania.

He was in possession of a ghost gun that “had the capability of firing a nine millimeter round and a suppressor,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said.

“As of right now, the information we're getting from Altoona is that the gun, you know, appears to be a ghost gun. May have been made on a 3D printer," he said. "The capability of firing a nine millimeter round, obviously, that will come out during our ballistics testing.”

BREAKING: Ex-Ivy League AI Student Luigi Mangione is Person of Interest in UnitedHealthcare CEO Shooting.

Quote
Authorities have detained Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old from Towson, Maryland, as a person of interest in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following a rigorous search by police. Thompson was assassinated outside a hotel in Midtown Manhattan last Wednesday. The shooter, described by police as calculated, used a suppressor-equipped firearm, striking Thompson multiple times before fleeing. New York police revealed surveillance images showing a suspect near the crime scene. Thompson’s family reported prior threats made against him.

According to law enforcement sources reviewing his online activity, Mangione is known for anti-capitalist beliefs and criticism of the U.S. healthcare system. His Goodreads account features quotes from historical figures like Socrates, Bruce Lee, and Ted Kaczynski, the “Unabomber,” recognized for his anti-establishment views. Mangione also reportedly carried a manifesto that criticized the financial and ethical practices of the healthcare industry. Mangione’s educational background includes being the valedictorian of his 2016 class at the Gilman School in Baltimore. He later pursued studies focused on artificial intelligence at the University of Pennsylvania. Brian Thompson, who had been CEO of UnitedHealthcare since April 2021, was prominent in the healthcare industry and had been with the company since 2004. The unfolding investigation continues to capture public interest, with authorities striving to understand the factors leading to Thompson’s assassination.

That's a very ethnic name.  Are we sure United Healthcare's envelope wasn't light last week?

... Ivy League anti-capitalist ... your taxpayer student loan dollars at work ... and Biden wants to let them stiff the American taxpayer.

Talking heads on television and public print newspapers and magazines are frequently graduates of Columbia University, where t-shirts are popularly worn that read, "I was born into this sewer called 'capitalism'."  Why do they continue living in this sewer instead of moving to Cuba, or Venezuela, or North Korea?

Pretty boy Luigi has gotten his last piece of tail.  MacDonald's employee is going to receive $50,000 belated Christmas present.  Great work!

... will family mount an "insanity" defense, or will Luigi Marx put capitalism on trial?

Will they attempt to claim he was brainwashed by a cult of Ivy-League Liberal Arts majors and professors?

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said "The suspect was in a McDonald's and was recognized by an employee who then called local police.

Let's see if this employee gets the rewards that should be due to him/her:
- $10,000 from NYC
- $50,000 from FBI

Why do we already know more about the CEO shooter than we do about (Trump's would-be assassin) Crooks 5 MONTHS later?

No great surprise that UHC murder suspect Luigi Mangione comes from an incredibly wealthy "huge family empire of nursing homes, apartments, office buildings and construction projects" in the Bal.-DC corridor.
From poverty to assassin in 3 generations.

I assume Nicholas B. Mangione of Mangione Enterprises - owner of the Turf Valley Resort in Maryland - is related to the shooter.

@CollinRugg
NEW: I have obtained Luigi Mangione's high school yearbook page, where his parents praised him for being a courageous and respectful young man. Mangione, 26, was originally from Towson, Maryland.
The former valedictorian and Ivy League grad wrote a manifesto containing phrases like "these parasites had it coming," according to police.
Mangione reportedly used a ghost gun that may have been made using a 3-D printer.
Police say Mangione was recognized by a McDonald's employee who alerted police. When they arrived, Mangione gave them his fake ID, the same one he allegedly used to check into an Upper West Side hostel.
It appears that Mangione had been "missing" for a while as apparent friends were concerned about his whereabouts over the past year.
Mangione's family has mostly been quiet since he was revealed to be a person of interest, except for his sister who released a story on IG saying "praying for you."

He thought he would get away with it... smug leftists. He went for too big a target and the police were forced to put the manpower/media behind catching him.

No doubt other murders were committed during this time that got no attention and little investigation, even if they were easier to solve.

The homemade plastic gun was the source of cycling problems. They just don't work as well with hand printed stuff that does not fit perfectly together as a mass produced gun does. I wonder why someone would bother with using such a gun, just get a good cheap Taurus 9mm and dispose of it afterwards somewhere in the woods with a pre-dug hole (or just use a critter hole already in the ground). Scatter some other metal around the area to thwart/hamper using metal detectors to find it.

Having a 3-D printer and internet searches on how to print them would be more damning in the long run in my opinion.

He could have picked up a cheap used revolver somewhere, for that matter. Why go to the trouble of making your own gun?

Regarding the Altoona, PA news conference right now, the spokesman wastes our time lecturing society, rather than inform the public about the timeline details of the arrest.

The level of stupid or arrogance, can't decide which right now, this guy exhibited amazes. He didn't get rid of anything incriminating apparently. Had it all on him at the time of his arrest. Luigi is about to get a cold, hard dose of reality.
