The lefties are having conniptions over Gaetz. Maybe he's a better pick than we thought.  :pondering:

Matt Gaetz ethics report threatens to derail Senate confirmation
By
Ramsey Touchberry
November 14, 2024 1:30 pm
.

Matt Gaetz’s resignation from the House of Representatives in anticipation of being confirmed as President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general may not stop the release of a looming ethics report.

Key Senate Republicans are warning that the controversial nomination, which sent shock waves through Washington, is unlikely to sail through their GOP-controlled chamber next year. At least not without first seeing a yet-to-be-published House Ethics Committee report of its investigation into Gaetz over allegations of sex trafficking and sex with a minor.

“I think there should not be any limitations on the [Senate] Judiciary Committee’s investigation, including whatever the House Ethics Committee generated,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), a member of the Senate’s judiciary panel charged with holding Gaetz’s confirmation hearing.

The firebrand Republican’s abrupt resignation from the House on Wednesday may have allowed him to quash the report’s imminent unveiling since Gaetz is no longer a member of Congress, though it was unclear whether House Ethics lawmakers could still vote to release it or provide it to the Senate.

How sad for them, and as far as a lot of work the justus department is doing? I bet very little of it has anything to do with JUSTICE.

Earlier this year Cornyn was literally booed of the stage at the Republican State Convention. Any reasonable candidate (Ken Paxton, Gregg Abbott, Sid Miller) will beat him like a drum in the 2026 primary.

With any cooperation at all, Matt Goetz's senate confirmation will come after the new senate is seated in 2027.

A backstop could be that Gaetz gets appointed to Rubio’s seat in that august body. Would DeSantis do it?

Man, what a great idea.

I think he will be confirmed. All the "whining" tells me he's great for cleaning house at DOJ.

Gaetz was investigated for 2 years with NO CHARGES.  The Biden DOJ then took more than 5 months to suddenly close the case...again with NO CHARGES.

Damned right we want a Congressional investigation!

This is part of the reason Gaetz is such a great pick for AG. He knows what it's like to be persecuted by the DOJ & FBI.

Why Matt Gaetz’s AG nomination could be ‘bad news’ for Google, other Big Tech monopolies
By Thomas Barrabi
Published Nov. 14, 2024, 3:50 p.m. ET

Donald Trump’s nomination of Matt Gaetz to serve as US attorney general could spell trouble for Google and other Big Tech giants accused of maintaining monopolies.

Gaetz’s confirmation of the ex-GOP congressman as the nation’s top law enforcer is far from a sure thing. The president-elect’s nomination of Gaetz — who faced a House Ethics Committee probe on allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use — is said to have shocked many Republican lawmakers.

If confirmed, however, Gaetz would have major influence over the DOJ’s handling of pending antitrust cases against the likes of Google, led by CEO Sundar Pichai, and Apple, led by Tim Cook. ...

A Gaetz-led DOJ could still pursue aggressive behavioral remedies against Google that would upend its business model without demanding a forced breakup, according to Brendan Benedict, an antitrust litigator at Benedict Law Group. ...

Wingnut...

Has there been a Trump pick you haven't shit on?

Yes, and if you read my posts, you would know that.

Pete Hegseth for Defense...great choice
Marco Rubio...I'm OK with
John Ratcliffe.....great choice
Lee Zeldin.....good choice
Elise Stefani....good choice
JD Vance....good choice
Susie Wiles....good choice
Stephen Miller....good choice
Tom Homan.....good choice
Michael Waltz....great choice
Elon Musk......great choice
Vivek Ramaswamy....great choice, but I think him and Musk will be at odds with one another in time
Robert Kennedy Jr....I support this.  As Kennedy indicates, we have gone from 5% or so to 70%+ of children with chronic health issues.  Our food is no longer nutritional.  Health issues are dramatically higher than 50 years ago.  The FDA is a totally corrupt operation, as is NIH, and half a dozen other agencies.  If Kennedy can change those organizations, I support that effort 100%.

Kristi Noem....poor choice.  I think she could have done many things well, but head of Homeland, no  She supported legalizing the illegal invaders until not so long ago and changed her position.  She made some poor decisions in her own state in the last year or so.

Tulsi Gabbard....absolute no.  Same as with Noem, she could do many things well, I am sure, but not DNI.  She was a Democrat just a few months ago, she is liberal, or too liberal for me, and does not have the sophisticated knowledge required for running all intelligence in the USA.  She will in fact handicap Trump in a very short period of time.

I am NOT open minded about using Democrats for anything, and certainly not for a position as critical to the president as DNI and Homeland.  With his goals that he has indicated he wants to execute, I do not see either being fully supportive of his agenda.  Time will tell.

Matt Gaetz....Absolute no.  He has only that experience he obtained in Congress.  That makes him deficient in my eyes.  He has never managed anything.  NEVER!  And now you think he can direct 100,000+ organization.  Could not more strongly disagree.  And let's say his ethics issues are all false, and I suspect they are, that he was targeted as Trump was targeted.  That does not make him qualified to run an organization of over 100,000 folks.

There is speculation that he will not get approved.  Maybe so.  I thought Ken Paxton the most qualified.  Now maybe he was not available, or even not interested, but he heads my list.

I want Trump to be the most successful POTUS of all time.  But his history of picking people to work for him in government is NOT a success.  His naive 1st term kept 1,400 Obama appointees more than one year into his first term.  Unacceptable.  If he does that again, he will have another nightmare on his hands.  Leaks daily, the media denigrating him every day versus giving any support his way.

I want results.  And I expect them quickly, and I hope they do not squander their time on Obamacare.  Healthcare is complicated.  Focus on quick wins in the first 100 days, while working on a real solution for immigration.

"Senate Republican vows Gaetz ‘will never get confirmed’ as uniparty circles the wagons"

Well, ok.
But as mentioned earlier:
If the Senate won't confirm Mr. Gaetz (who has resigned from the House), Mr. Trump could then ask Florida Governor DeSantis to appoint him to the vacancy opened up by Marco Rubio's departure for Sec. of State.

If the Senate won't confirm Gaetz, he will then BECOME a Senator...!

Seems the claims coming out seem eerily similar to what was said about Trump as well.

Nope, his AG gig lasted only 4 years.

He was gunning for a lifelong appointment to SCOTUS and got shitcanned for that job.

We indeed dodged a big bullet

Cornyn already creating problems. **nononono*
Cornyn IS the problem.

Since arriving in DC as a new Senator a couple of decades ago, he has bowed to the DC crowd.

I had always fantasized about Cruz running against him in a primary so we can get rid of this super RINO.
