More information has emerged about the attempted assassination of Former President Donald Trump at his Florida golf course.

Would-be Donald Trump assassin Ryan Wesley Routh apparently left behind an AK-47 rifle with a serial "at least partially obliterated" at the scene of the attempted shooting, The Washington Post reported.

According to the source, this makes it more difficult "to quickly determine how the suspect procured the weapon."

There are reagents that can pick off a date of rubbed thin Buffalo Nickel.  I don't believe that the number can be fully obliterated, with proper forensics technique.

Unless he really boogered it up, like with a drill.

An AK-47 is a very poor selection for a sniper rifle.  It is a close-quarters weapon that fires 7.62 X 39mm cartridges, which is ballistically similar to a relatively low-powered 30-30.  At a hundred yards, it generally fires in 4-inch groups or worse, with significant drop-off beyond that range.



A far better sniper rifle would be the SVD Dragunov, chambered for 7.62 X 54mm Russian, designed for that purpose.

“You are free to assassinate Trump,” Routh ranted in his self-published missive as wrote of the “tremendous blunder” of leaving the Iran nuclear deal.

He also described Trump as a “fool” and “buffoon” for the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots.

Elsewhere, Routh penned that he’d voted for Trump in 2016 but must take part of the blame for the “child that we elected for our next president that ended up being brainless.”

The book, which appears on Amazon without a publisher, is titled “Ukraine’s Unwinnable War: The Fatal Flaw of Democracy, World Abandonment and the Global Citizen-Taiwan, Afghanistan, North Korea and the end of Humanity.”

David Frum, a prominent “Never Trump” pundit and former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, claimed that former President Donald Trump and his running mate Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) “want to present themselves as near-victims of violence” following the second assassination attempt against Trump that transpired on Sunday.

“Trump and his running mate have spent the past week successfully inciting violence in Springfield, Ohio. Today they want to present themselves as near-victims of violence — in this case, of violence completely unrelated to themselves and at a very safe distance from themselves,” Frum wrote in a Sunday X post.

Why?

1. This is the first such criminal whose social media posts were NOT scrubbed by the Feds before they released his name. In other words, they WANT you to see those social media posts.

2. It's another failure of the Secret Service and this time they admit that President Trump is getting substandard protection.

3. An AK-type weapon? Looks like a Norinco SKS. That's weird.

4. The cops did a felony stop on him and they didn't kill him? Their restraint is unusual.

Ryan Wesley Routh echoed the Democrats' talking point that Trump is a "threat to democracy" and, as with so many Trump haters, explicitly called for his assassination. It may be that the Democrat politicians refrain from going quite that far, their allies in the cultural class, including actors and musicians (and donors) haven't been shy about wanting Trump dead. Asking for a John Wilkes Booth to emerge is hardly subtle.

Ryan Wesley Routh, the alleged would-be Trump assassin, set up a sniper's nest near the former president's golf course and hid there for nearly 12 hours before the apparent ambush attempt, federal prosecutors said Monday.

Routh's cell phone pinged to the spot on the edge of Trump International West Palm Beach starting from 1:59 a.m. on Sunday, the federal criminal complaint said.

His gun barrel was spotted by a Secret Service agent about 1:30 p.m. -- while Trump was on the links 300-500 yards away.
