Correctamundo.  Just balance the budget, and the Democrat Party ceases to exist.

The Democrat Party would probably still exist

But it would have much less power and less access to that power

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

@Right_in_Virginia No.  The one who allowed tough times is Trump by not backing a competent constitutional conservative.  No -- instead he smeared them.

I simply disagree with you @libertybele

Trump did not create the problems with the glut of antisocial, weak-kneed soy boys in the conservative movement --- he exposed them.

Weak men create though times and your troupe of conservative darlings is filled with America's quintessential weak men.

By 'Conservative', you mean the people who screamed at Trump to start vetoing bills and stop funding the very people hellbent on destroying him?  You see now what that $8 trillion in deficit spending bought you?

I mean seriously, practically every Conservative on this forum has been backing Trump 100% in this trial.  And then you show up and trash us?  Where in the hell were you for the last 900 posts?  Geez.

Trump himself is a weak man

Oh sure, he can pick on powerless women and stiff contractors who can’t afford to fight him in court

But when it came to Fauci, Brix, Shumer, Pelosi, Hillary, he folded faster than the cheapest suit

Thats the reason why he avoided the primary debates is because he didn’t want to be called out on his record by people who could fight him.  But he’s eager to debate Biden because Biden’s mind is no longer here on Earth so he’s banking on  that he won’t be able to fight back

The reality is Trump is a small, thin skinned snowflake who needs constant validation and reassurance. I know the type. And his most dedicated of supporters confuse fighting with Meghan Kelly or Meghan McCain with taking on an entrenched and corrupt federal bureaucracy.

It’s because of his weakness we find ourselves in the mess we are in today

The bureaucracy and the left grew and became more powerful under his watch and beyond. That’s reality butting heads with your fantasy

But answer this. How many legal fees has your revolutionary leader paid for for those who are in jail from January 6? I mean, they did show up there on his behalf and request

And I know you fancy yourself as a revolutionary whose “saving this country” and having the political bloodline  of the original patriots. But your general ran from the battle lickety-split and in a quick hurry after telling his supporters he would march to the Capitol with them

Your boy is soft. He’s hard with those who can’t  fight back. You just confuse mean tweets at celebrities with fighting for America. I get it. You want to believe. But your belief doesn’t erase the reality

Because Trump is part of the reason that this country is hanging by a thread

He’s not solely to blame as there is plenty of blame to go around, of course. But believing someone who bears some responsibility for our current troubles is somehow going to save us is the height of absurdity

NO! He damned well is not! HE is the only thing that prevented us from going completely over the cliff under Hillary Clinton!

That right! You can start with Abe Lincoln - who opened wide the doors through which EVERY progressive  since have walked - and work your way forward.  And BTW, Trump is what we have, and you fight with what you have whether you like it or not!

But let’s take a trip down memory Lane

Appointed Miley to Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff…Trump

Nominated/appointed Wray to the Director of the FBI….Trump

Appointed Powell to the Chair of the Federal Reserve….,.Trump

Laid the groundwork for the inflation that we are experiencing today and wants to do even more….Trump

Placed the Moratorium on halting student loan payments and rent payments that screwed landlords….Trump

Anybody who wants to  take a crack at disputing any of those or explains why the above were positives without mentioning Biden or screaming communism or making me the issue I am interested.

No.  Trump is NOT the reason this country is hanging by a thread.  'W' s second term was a disaster. The GOP then backed the biggest RINO there was; John McCain and B.O. took over.  His overreach was all telling and no one held him or Holder and others accountable.  They simply ignored the courts.

Trump was then elected with a full majority and didn't do as promised.  Yes, Ryan and McConnell had a lot to do with that.  Regardless they handed the DEMS more power.

536 members of Congress have stood by and watched our Republic disintegrate.

If you hadn't nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisies! It's run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! This is an ex-country! (to borrow from John Cleese)

I think we are all despaired with the state of this country.  I know the binary case is getting old, but give thought to which of the two will do more damage.

Trump may damage our status, but Biden is an obvious path to destruction.  Think about the past 3 1/2 years, and ponder how it will look in another 4 1/2.

Trump's a bad choice, but I see him as  political speed bump, rather than taking the car over the cliff with Pedo Joe.

So Trump is the victim? Never mind that there were people that were warning him about people like Miley. He is the victim and it’s everybody else fault?

He was forced to put a moratorium on student loan payments and rent payments to landlords? The swap made him do that? And the Democrats forced him to sign onto massive Covid stimulus checks, even though there were congressional Republicans that would’ve had his back if he would’ve at least gone for a smaller amount?

And McConnell forced him to place tariffs that ended up costing the economy?

I'm not a liar @jmyrlefuller! I just cannot bring myself to give up on the country I once fought and bleed for.

The rest of that I will not attempt to argue. I'm not blind either. For more years than you have been alive I've seen what was coming and prayed hard for God to send a mighty warrior to pull the fat out of the fire. HE sent Donald John Trump and I trust that HE knows what HE is doing.

I get your argument. And it is a compelling one I will admit. There’s no amount of torture that would even get me to consider voting for Biden

The problem is it’s pretty much guaranteed that after Trump, a potential two term democrat would more likely follow. Pray that it won’t be an Elizabeth Warren clone or we will “fondly”  reminisce about the “good times”  under Biden

I look at the very major mistakes that he made in his first term that he still won’t acknowledge and I look at what he’s proposing and his leftward shift and say no thanks

Acknowledge his mistakes in his first term and seek penance and give up his economic populism, and I will reconsider. IOWs, sound more like Javier and less like Bernie

Anyways, I have majorly  hijacked this thread and  out of courtesy for the management, I’ll move on unless something interesting comes up

My penance for hijacking will be a donation to keep this forum running

I think we are all despaired with the state of this country.  I know the binary case is getting old, but give thought to which of the two will do more damage.

Trump may damage our status, but Biden is an obvious path to destruction.  Think about the past 3 1/2 years, and ponder how it will look in another 4 1/2.

Trump's a bad choice, but I see him as  political speed bump, rather than taking the car over the cliff with Pedo Joe.
I remember full well my three years of unemployment under Trump... my continued lack of a wife or children. Trump and Biden both are complicit in ruining our society. If you think Trump is slightly better just because he stole an R to put next to his name, you're fooling yourself.

Eight Republican Senators respond to lawfare against Trump, pledge to no longer cooperate with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations

Harris Rigby  ·  Jun 1, 2024

Guys, Republicans might be starting to learn something.

A cohort of US Senators, led by Utah's Mike Lee, have signed a pledge to no longer cooperate in any way with the Democrats in the Senate. No more Democrat bills. No more Biden nominees. Nothing.

We've got the Mike Lee 8 here.

Mike Lee (R-Utah), JD Vance (R-Ohio), Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama), Eric Schmitt (R- Missouri), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee), Rick Scott (R-Florida), Roger Marshall (R- Kansas), and Marco Rubio (R- Florida) have all put their names to this letter decrying the White House's "mockery of the rule of law" which has "fundamentally altered our politics in un-American ways."  .  .  .

About damn time.  Why did it take you this long?  Democrats are not your friends.  They want you dead.

So they won’t help Democrats pass bills or with any of their legislative priorities because of this trial. What the hell were they doing before this? No wonder why conservatives no longer  have a party to call home

No I don't think he's any better because he has an 'R' next to his name.  I am comparing my life under Trump v. Biden.  Trump wins that hands down.

As for voting for either one of them ... well, I've been reading that we need to work with who we have .... but IMHO there's still some uncertainty surrounding Trump being the nominee.

Elie Honig says the trial "blew his mind" as he called it an "unjustified mess."

"The judge donated money - a tiny amount of $35, but in plain violation of a rule prohibiting New York judges from making political donations of any kind to a pro-Biden, anti-Trump political operation," he wrote in the NY Magazine.

"The charges against Trump are obscure and nearly entirely unprecedented. In fact, no state prosecutor... has ever charged federal election laws as a direct or predicate state crime, against anyone, for anything."

A Primer on the Trump Case

Powerline by Steven Hayward 6/2/2024

For readers still puzzled about exactly how the Trump trial went down and why Alvin Bragg’s case was so convoluted, Brad Smith, former chairman of the Federal Election Commission whose testimony on this point was disallowed by Judge Merchan, offers this primer in two long threads on Twitter/X:

Falsifying business records under NY law is a misdemeanor, unless done to hide a crime. Bragg says that crime was a violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA), or of a NY statute making it illegal to influence an election by “unlawful” means.

But if the latter, what is the “unlawful means?” An alleged violation of FECA. So it comes down to FECA. There are two potential violations here. One is acceptance of an unlawful contribution by the campaign. The other is incorrect reporting of a contribution by the campaign.

Either way, we have to have a campaign contribution. That allegedly occurred when Cohen advanced money to pay the Stormy Daniels settlement. FECA defines a contribution as any payment made “for the purpose of influencing an election.” The 2016 max legal contribution was $2700.

This looks bad for Trump–it’s pretty easy to conclude the payment was made to influence the election by buying Daniels’ silence, right? And Cohen paid Daniels $130K, way over the limit. Well, it’s not so simple.

First, let’s clear up something. Cohen just loaned the money–he was paid back and then some. So where, some ask, is the contribution? But this is not a winner for Trump–under the law a “contribution” includes a loan, unless made in the ordinary course of business (e.g. a bank).

But, for context, note that there is no limit on how much Trump can contribute to his own campaign. By Oct 27, when Daniels was paid, Trump had already spent >$60 million of his own $$ on the campaign. It would have been easy for him to toss in another $130K.

Spot on.

Perfect liberal rant. All the things you describe have nothing at all to do with Trump, or anyone, except you. I majored in CompSci. You majored in meteorology. That is not Trump's fault. Your lack of wife and children is a grievance which is as old as time. Trump has nothing to do with that.

To say that Trump and Biden are 'essentially' the same thing is beyond delusional.

Mr. Fuller, you are the best. I wish for you nothing but good times and success. May all your goals come true. However, your 'sense of reality' really is a few degrees off center.

I can't even comprehend being unemployed for three years.  I can't imagine not earning a living.  I'd get a job driving a truck, picking up trash, or laying sod before I'd sit at home for three years without working for a paycheck.

"I'd get a job driving a truck" CDLs cost thousands of dollars. And most every other job that was accessible to someone with my degree and credentials either turned me down or was never hiring. Even a casino, a casino whose main purpose for getting approved was to provide jobs for those who needed them, decided I was just too autistic for them.

And that was under Trump's greatest economy in the world. There was no room for me.

And you wonder why I'm the mess I am, and why I'm so adamant that that man never needs to be treated seriously by anyone, ever again?
