I had a gargantuan crush on Robert Redford when I was about 16 years old, even though he was well into his middle-ages by then.  In retrospect, maybe it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone when I married a significantly older blonde-haired man of less-than-average height.     Anyway, the shine wore off (of Redford, not my hubby) when I found out what a crazy lefty loony he was.  Ugh.

We went with a couple of our sons to see the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie at their request.  It was  ... well, let's just say one of them Googled 'how many f-bombs in Deadpool & Wolverine' on the way out to the car.  In case you are interested, the answer is 116.  It could have been just as funny without all the cursing and the sexualized humor, but whatever.  I guess I'm just an old prude.

Nope, some movies obviously think the audience doesn't think the movie viewers can stand a script that is not half vulgar now days. I still cringe and no longer give Hollywood my money unless it is something they get right.
Exodus 18:21 Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders over ....

I love Raymond! I've seen all the episodes multiple times but they still make me laugh.

My favorite episode is when Marie interferes with Robert's job interview because she ruined his lucky suit. :silly:

This weekend:
"The Red Danube" a 1949 film with Walter Pidgeon, Peter Lawford, Angela Landsbury, and Janet Leigh. Set in Vienna during a time when anti-communist films carried weight.

This was a hard one to find. It doesn't appear as freely "watchable" anywhere I could find. Can't even find torrents of it (at least not on the "normal net").

To get ahold of a copy, I had to use the Tor browser to search the "dark web". Finally found and got it from a Russian site. Interesting that they seem more interested in 70+ year-old anti-communist films than folks are here...!

LOCKED UP 560HP BMW M5 S63Tu Hot-V Turbo V8 Teardown. What Killed This Engine At Just 102K Miles?

I Do Cars

302,322 views  Jul 20, 2024  IMPORTAPART

Today's engine is a 560 Horsepower Hot-V Twin Turbo V8 from a 2014 BMW M5 with just 102k miles. The S63Tu is the second iteration of M-car hot-v v8 and there are a lot of improvements over the first generation, but that doesn't mean they're perfect. Squeezing 560hp from just 4.4L is a feat in itself and it comes at a cost. In this case, the engine locked up after a wide-open throttle pull getting on the highway. What causes this type of failure? Could it have been avoided? Was there pre-existing damage and the strain of a hard highway pull just pushed it over the edge? What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

Why do I do this? My name is Eric and I own and run a full service auto recycling business called Importapart. Part of our model incudes buying blown up, core, or bad engines and dismantling them. We salvage the good parts and recycle the rest! We do not repair or rebuild engines, merely supply parts to those who do.

I really hope you enjoyed this teardown, as always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one!

 -Eric

Laugh In is on Prime

I loved this show as a child. Yes it's dated, especially the clothing, but it was still funny.

Me too :)

Unfortunately, after my sojourn through LOTR, today is movie day, and I am left with comparative dregs. I doubt that anything is up to the task of topping the LOTR saga.

Yes it was .. Though seeing it for the second time was very good. Still felt there was a lot of chutes and ladders in the Hobbit. My suspension of disbelieve was strained.

But over all, as movies go... What a rollicking tale.

Chick Flick Alert!

Watching “Somewhere In Time” for the very first time. Loving the music and the setting (the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island).
I’d forgotten how beautiful Christopher Reeve was. Jane Seymour was stunning.

The wife and I watched "Deadwood:The Movie" and it got two huge thumbs DOWN!!! from both of us.
Screwy plot mixed in with weird subplots. Generally, it was boring and everybody using the f word.
The creator and main writer of Deadwood claims that everybody used the f word out West in those days.
That has been rebutted by many Old West experts.
At any rate, it was a dull movie.

The wife and I are watching "Hell On Wheels" which is ostensibly about a Confederate soldier, Anson Mount, seeking revenge on Yankee soldiers who murdered his wife while he was away fighting the CW.
The action occurs after the war, and the Rebel soldier joins the work on the Transcontinental Railroad while seeking his revenge.
So far so good. But as the series plods on the creators decided to add dumb plot elements and of course have an interracial (black/white) affair going on between horrible actor Common (some sort of rapper) and a white woman.
They also invent the fiction of a woman, as the wife of a surveyor who got killed, being chiefly responsible for plotting the advance of the Union Pacific roadbuilding team.
I'm ready to ditch the series as being overly ridiculous, but the wife likes it. So, I guess I'll have to suffer through all seven seasons.

I'm watching 'Warrior' on Netflix.  It's the show that Bruce Lee wanted to make before ABC stole his idea and turned it into 'Kung Fu' with David Carridine.

It's very adult oriented, like Boardwalk Empire and Peaky Blinders, but enthralling nonetheless.  The extended riot scene in Episode 9 of Season 2 is simply tremendous!

Hubby and I went to the movie theater yesterday to see “Reagan”.
It was good, not great. IMNSHO, it should have been a series on Amazon or Netflix. Or several movies.  So much information that 2 hours wasn’t sufficient time to cover it all. The movie felt a bit choppy in the beginning. I did, however, enjoy the last 30 minutes of it.
Reagan was my favorite president, although I never voted for him. I was liberal at the time.
One of my favorite places on earth is the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA. I have spent hours upon hours there.
Go see the movie, if only to be reminded of what a great country we had.

Thanks for the review.  Part of the problem appears that the makers of the film could have found some who more looked like Reagan.  not sure how Quaid acted, but the visuals just aren't good.

Truth! I remember watching it and even though it was bad I decided I would watch a bit longer in the hopes it would get better. Well I kept on in that premise until I realized I had wasted two hours and the damn thing never got better, shame on Kurt Russel for being in such a stinker.

I've seen TEOTNP I don't know how many times. Still one of my favorite flicks. Ernest Borgnine said it was the most physically exhausting film he's ever made.
Interesting that they decided to shorten the original title eliminating Pole. I saw it the first time with Pole still in the title.

I have been home with the flu the last 3 days, and did a lot of binge watching -

Found an old movie I never saw and I have to admit, even though it is dated, I am so glad I did.

Dr Strangelove.

Though I am sure most of the people here have already seen it. ...

(Also found a few old episodes of Dragnet from the 1950's in Black and White. Since I grew up with the 60's version, this was also a treat, despite the fact Bill Gannon isn't on it)
'

I also found a couple of old ads from Jack Webb and President Reagan from the 50s when they shilled for cigarettes. Here is the one from President Reagan....

Dr. Strangelove is the satirical version of a more serious film and book called "Failsafe."  It's worth watching too.

This weekend:
"As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me".

wiki entry on it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_Far_as_My_Feet_Will_Carry_Me

Excerpt:
As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me (German: So weit die Füße tragen) is a 2001 film about German World War II prisoner of war Clemens Forell's escape from a Siberian Gulag in the Soviet Union back to Germany. It is based on the book of the same name written by Bavarian novelist Josef Martin Bauer [de]. The book is in turn based on the story of Cornelius Rost who used the alias "Clemens Forell" to avoid retribution from the KGB.

It's "on the bay" and elsewhere if you care to look for it and "are not afraid"...

Just bought this DVD on EBAY.  I know it's probably on some stream somewhere, but I don't pay other than my Dish bill for TV and it's too new to be on there.

It looks similar to The Hustler w/Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason and George C Scott.

Finished watching it last night.
I'll give it a "Fishrrman highest recommendation".

A decent copy which can be viewed fullscreen (@1080p) can be found here:

TIP:
Download the mp4 version (1.2gb), better quality.
Or, download the torrent file and use a torrent client to get it that way.

Watching Top Shot on prime. It is an amazing combination of 'Survivor' and 'The Bachelor'.
But, Top Shot has lots of guns and swinging dicks. Let's go shoot something! Hell yes!

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

About 3/4ths through a Korean movie called "The Good, The Bad, The Weird"....

Lot of action, and I find myself rooting for The Weird so far... Set in the mid 20s as far as I can tell. Getting vibes of "The Hobbit" connection, with all the numerous forces coming together for the final battle.

EDIT::::

Finished it, liked it, few good twists at the end and one of the best chase scenes in cinema....

Finished up “Everybody Loves Raymond” and now starting “The Middle”.
You're everywhere I go, I am not alone
You call me as Your own to know You and be known.
You are holy!
And I fall down on my knees.
I can feel Your presence here with me.
Suddenly I'm lost within Your beauty,
Caught up in the wonder of Your touch.
Here in this moment I surrender to Your love.

Just finished binging Saving Grace

It's situated in OKC, some time after the bombing there, and she is a wayward cop who gets a 'last chance' angel to help her resolve her life.
Irreverent, Dirty, gritty... Pretty much enjoyed it for the storyline. Too much nudity and gratuitous sex to suit the story - too debauched on purpose.

But, fairly good character development. The interplay between country/city, cowboy and Indian, the after effects of the bombing on people's lives - All that felt authentic, and gave the story beef.

The religion, however, is laughable... I mean, really, really bad. Catholics may take offense - And everybody in it is pretty much Catholic, except the crazy and fanatic ones, who are all Protestant strains.

It preaches universalism through a lighthearted  snoose chewing redneck angel named Earl. The teaching is blasphemous, and what you'd expect out of Hollywood. But worth it for the study. I could probably provide quite a commentary on this, sitting out on the porch.

Anyone planning to see Matt Walsh's documentary on DEI?

Previews look pretty funny

If I can get it free (stream) I will.... usually a while after it is released to the public. That "what is a woman" was great.

I get pretty depressed with the political trends, but then I realize, after we are gone, there will still be a younger generation continuing conservative movement.  Including:

Ben Shapiro (b.1984)
James O'Keefe (b. 1984)
Andy Ngo (b. 1986)
Matt Walsh (b.1986)

Seeing these makes me feel that we might have a fighting chance.

Pretty much giving up on Cable television except for News. That Family Guy show is slowly creeping in taking over all the channels one by one.

Soon, cable TV will be a choice between
Family Guy
Ghosts of one kind or another
space aliens
Simpsons/Bob's Burgers
Once in a while I can watch some of this stuff, but constantly 24/7 is not for me.

Growing up, there was always some show which was super popular and everyone watched it every week.
As a young kid, it was Dallas (who killed JR swept the country). In my working years, it was all Seinfeld.
These days there is just nothing out there like that.
