After receiving an unsatisfactory response from Hamas, Israel has refrained from sending a negotiating team to continue talks in Cairo

In a significant development amid ongoing negotiations, Hamas, the terrorist group governing the Gaza Strip, has said that it will not agree to the release of hostages without Israel committing to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Citing a source within Hamas, CNN reported that the group is adamant about the cessation of hostilities as a prerequisite for any deal regarding the release of hostages.

According to the Hamas source, apart from the demand for a fixed truce, two other key points of contention preventing an agreement from being reached include the withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops from Gaza and the allowance for civilians to return to the northern Gaza Strip.

Additionally, Hamas has insisted on the provision of aid to both the southern and northern parts of the Gaza Strip before agreeing to any deal.  .  .  .

There was already a permanent cease fire agreement in place on Oct 7.  Any agreement is only as good as the parties agreeing to it.  So if Hamas is involved, any agreement is worthless.

Israel should do what Hamas does.  Make the agreement, get the hostages back (if any are still alive), and then start bombing again.  But the bottom line here is that even if Israel agreed to everything Hamas asks for, Hamas would sabotage it somehow.

3 Strategic Hamas Errors Leave Gaza Terror Base in Ruins

The October 7 assault on Israel is gradually unfolding as a series of strategic miscalculations by Hamas. As the IDF continues to dismantle the group’s terror machine, the war is increasingly shaping up as a disaster for both Hamas and Gaza.

The invasion from Gaza, driven by three key errors in judgment, aimed to inflict severe damage on Israel, trigger a regional war, and bolster the strategic position of Hamas and Iran. But as events unfold, it becomes evident that Hamas misjudged its own capabilities while misreading Israel’s and Iran’s response.

3 Hamas miscalculations

Error 1: The Hamas plan anticipated a prolonged incursion into Israeli territory by thousands of terrorists armed to the teeth and equipped with ample supplies. The intention was to seize control of multiple communities and military installations, engaging in sustained combat against the IDF for long weeks.

However, Hamas was quickly overwhelmed by the swift and decisive Israeli response. The IDF neutralized all terrorists and pockets of resistance inside Israel within days. This enabled Israel to shift focus to offensive operations within Gaza sooner than Hamas expected, escalating the conflict well beyond Hamas’ control.

Error 2: Hamas did not believe that the IDF would mount a large-scale invasion of Gaza, according to captured terrorists interrogated by Israel. This assumption, based on exaggerating the Israeli fear of casualties, led Hamas to concentrate its defenses primarily against aerial bombardment and build a vast network of tunnels, Ynet reported.

As it turned out, this defensive doctrine proved lacking against the IDF’s ground incursion, leaving Hamas exposed and vulnerable to Israel’s overwhelming military power. Moreover, tunnels were mostly built as shelters rather than sites of potential large-scale combat, enabling the IDF to advance underground with relative ease and destroy numerous strategic sites.

Error 3: Hamas pinned its hopes on full-scale support from the Iran axis, anticipating a regional conflict that never materialized. Secret documents recovered by the IDF in Gaza suggest that Tehran promised full backing, or at least that this was the Hamas perception.

“But I’m never going to leave Israel,” the president quickly added. “The defense of Israel is still critical. There’s no red line [where] I’m going to cut off all weapons so they don’t have the Iron Dome to protect them.

The number of civilian casualties in Gaza has been at the center of international attention since the start of the war. The main source for the data has been the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, which now claims more than 30,000 dead, the majority of which it says are children and women. Recently, the Biden administration lent legitimacy to Hamas’ figure. When asked at a House Armed Services Committee hearing last week how many Palestinian women and children have been killed since Oct. 7, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said the number was “over 25,000.” The Pentagon quickly clarified that the secretary “was citing an estimate from the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry.” President Biden himself had earlier cited this figure, asserting that “too many, too many of the over 27,000 Palestinians killed in this conflict have been innocent civilians and children, including thousands of children.” The White House also explained that the president “was referring to publicly available data about the total number of casualties.”

Here’s the problem with this data: The numbers are not real. That much is obvious to anyone who understands how naturally occurring numbers work. The casualties are not overwhelmingly women and children, and the majority may be Hamas fighters.   ...

This lack of correlation is the second circumstantial piece of evidence suggesting the numbers are not real. But there is more. The daily number of women casualties should be highly correlated with the number of non-women and non-children (i.e., men) reported. Again, this is expected because of the nature of battle. The ebbs and flows of the bombings and attacks by Israel should cause the daily count to move together. But that is not what the data show. Not only is there not a positive correlation, there is a strong negative correlation, which makes no sense at all and establishes the third piece of evidence that the numbers are not real.

Consider some further anomalies in the data: First, the death count reported on Oct. 29 contradicts the numbers reported on the 28th, insofar as they imply that 26 men came back to life. This can happen because of misattribution or just reporting error.  ...

Dem Rep. Moskowitz: Not Letting Israel Invade Rafah Gives Hamas ‘All the Leverage’ to Reject Ceasefires

On Monday’s broadcast of “CNN NewsNight,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) stated that Israel has to be allowed to go forward with an invasion of Rafah if Hamas keeps rejecting ceasefires because “otherwise, you’re giving Hamas all the leverage.” And “What’s  not acceptable is to let Hamas continue to reject a ceasefire, but then say, Israel can’t do anything about that.”

Moskowitz said, “I’m concerned about Rafah. Obviously, Israel needs to do everything it can to make sure that civilians are protected. But we know at this juncture, the United States has proposed — along with other Arab neighbors — has proposed a temporary ceasefire. We know that Hamas continues to reject it. So, if Hamas continues to reject it, then Israel has the right to continue to prosecute the war against Hamas. So, Abby, what I would like to see happen –.”

The terror group presented the Gaza cease-fire proposal to U.S., Qatar and Egypt mediators on Friday, Reuters reported. It includes the release of Israeli women, children, elderly and sick hostages in exchange for the release of 700 to 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office appeared to reject the Hamas proposal, saying it was based on "unrealistic demands," per the report.

The new proposal comes a week after negotiations to broker an agreement concluded without a breakthrough.

So, Israel announces it will invade Rafa, and Hamas offers cease fire and hostage release.  Coincidence?  Maybe, but, it's confirmation Israel is on the right track.

Agressors (Hamas) only sue for peace when they are losing.  They use the false promise of peace, cease fire, or armistice to buy time to recruit and re-arm.

Reduce Rafa to ash.

Unconditional surrender of Hamas is the only acceptable, long-term outcome.  Anything short of Hamas' unconditional surrender is a guarantee of another future war in Gaza.
