The Washington Post claimed on Saturday that the U.S. has brokered a deal between Israel and Hamas to hit pause on the fighting for five days to “free women and children hostages,” but according to the National Security Council, WaPo’s headline is fake news.

“We have not reached a deal yet,” National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson wrote on X, “but we continue to work hard to get to a deal.”

Israeli officials warned of a "grave incidient" after Iran-backed terrorists in Yemen hijacked an international cargo vessel in the Red Sea on Sunday.

The Houthi terrorist group had claimed to have captured an "Israeli" ship, but Israel says none of the crew on board are Israeli. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office says the ship is owned by a British company and operated by a Japanese company.

"The hijacking of a cargo ship by the Houthis near Yemen in the southern Red Sea is a very grave incident of global consequence.The ship departed Turkey on its way to India, staffed by civilians of various nationalities, not including Israelis. It is not an Israeli ship," The IDF said in a statement.

Israel says the ship's crew includes 25 crew members of various nationalities, including Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Filipinos and Mexicans.

"We strongly condemn the Iranian attack against an international ship," the PM's office said.

The U.S. believes the vast majority of hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7 are still alive.

Deputy National Security Adviser John Finer made the statement during a Sunday morning appearance on ABC's 'This Week.' He said hostage negotiations between the U.S., Israel, Qatar and Hamas were ongoing and extremely sensitive.

Finer said that while the U.S. could not confirm the condition of the hostages, at least a large majority of them are still believed to be alive.

"The United States government does not speak directly with them. But we do believe that a significant number and most likely the majority and even the vast majority of hostages are alive," Finer said. "We are certainly operating under that assumption, and we are going to work to get as many of them out. Certainly, including, by the way, a number of Americans who we believe are held hostage as we can. But we do not have perfect clarity. We are not on the ground."

White House responds to Pentagon doubts over Biden's actions to 'deter' Iran

 The White House National Security Council pushed back on reports of division within the Defense Department of President Biden's efforts to deter Iran from widening Israel's war against Hamas on Sunday.

The Washington Post reported on grumblings at the Pentagon over the appearent ineffectiveness of U.S. policy toward Iran. Iran's proxy terrorist groups have attacked U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria roughly 60 times since October 17, leading many to question what exactly Biden is deterring.

“There’s no clear definition of what we are trying to deter,” one defense official told the Post. “Are we trying to deter future Iranian attacks like this? Well, that’s clearly not working.”

Watson responded in a Sunday statement, arguing that Biden has taken significant actions to deter Iran from joining the war in Israel.

"President Biden has shown he will never hesitate to take action to protect U.S. forces. He has directed the U.S. military to conduct precision air strikes in response to recent attacks against U.S. forces who are in Iraq and Syria to help defeat ISIS, and he is fully prepared to take further measures as needed at any given moment to protect our people," she said.

A US Marine rapid response force is moving toward the eastern Mediterranean Sea, according to two officials — amid concerns over the war in Gaza broadening into a regional conflict.

The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, aboard the USS Bataan amphibious assault ship, was operating in the waters of the Middle East in recent weeks, but it began making its way toward the Suez Canal late last week, the officials said.

The Bataan is currently in the Red Sea and is expected to pass into the eastern Mediterranean soon, one official said.

The move will place the Marine unit closer to Lebanon and Israel as the US is warning citizens to leave Lebanon. One of the typical roles of a Marine Expeditionary Unit is to help civilians evacuate.  .  .

This simply doesn't happen.  Anyone witnessing an Israeli West Bank settlement can see clearly that the settlement was build from scratch in an area where no one lived.  They aren't displacing anyone.  You can stand on a hill near Jerusalem and look out on a vast expanse of blinding wasteland.  And far off, there will be a tiny patch of green.  That is an Israeli settlement, built up from nothing.  No one got displaced from that spot because no one was there in the first place.  This is THE biggest lie perpetrated by Western media since the Uncle Joe days of the 1930s and 40s.

The initiative reflects a degree of caution on the part of Hamas, which is still rebuilding the enclave following a 2021 war and appears unwilling to pursue a head on confrontation from Gaza with the administration of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, analysts said.
