Fate of hostages unknown as contact is lost: Hamas spokesperson

The fate of the several of the hostages who have been held by Hamas since Oct. 7 is allegedly unknown as the terror group’s armed wing has lost contact with a number of the groups in charge of protecting them, Al-Qassam Brigades spokesperson Abu Obaida said Saturday.

“We have lost contact with a number of groups charged with protecting enemy prisoners, and the fate of the prisoners and captives is still unknown,” Obaida said in the video address.

Hamas is also prepared to release 70 hostages in exchange for a five-day truce, he added.

 The Israel Defense Forces on Saturday announced expanded military operations to wipe out Hamas terrorists in two areas of Gaza City.

The IDF said soldiers operating in the Zaytun and Jabalia areas encountered "numerous terrorists" as Israel targets Hamas infrastructure in the city.

According to Israel, one of Hamas' main battalions operates in Zaytun, while Jabalia is where the terrorist group's "command and control center for the Northern Gaza Brigade" is located. IDF said that four Hamas battalions operate in Jabalia.

"Engineering forces, infantry, and armored corps of the divisions, assisted by the [Israeli air force], are encountering terrorists who intentionally operate from within civilian areas, and attempt to attack the troops using anti-tank missiles and explosive devices," the IDF said.

"During the encounters, numerous terrorists were killed and the troops struck a large number of terror infrastructures, including underground infrastructure and significant targets of the terrorist organization," it added.

How much of his own money did the multi-millionaire donate to the Hamas government's subjects?

I doubt he gave up a dime of his own money.  But who knows?  I know the Democommies want to give up hundreds of millions if not billions for Gaza in aid.  Knowing these wankers, they are already planning to rebuild Gaza.  I say leave it in ruins like the Russians left East Berlin.

I was 16 years old, traveled to Berlin in 1970, and stood on a platform looking at East Berlin.  I was shocked to see the ruins from 1945 left standing.  No pun intended, but buildings with 10-20% left standing, the rest in rubble on the ground.  If Israel does anything different, they are foolish and inviting future attacks.  I say completely destroy all of Gaza, and make it a permanent statement of what happens when you attack Israel.  It is called vanquishing the enemy, destroying the enemy, and Israel has every right to kill every last one of them.

You think the USA or Britain gave one moments consideration for the civilians in Germany and Japan?  We fire bombed 60 Japanese cities, killing 100,000 in Tokyo in one night.  Dresden death toll ranges from 25,000 to 100,000, depending on the source.  These were attacks on the civilian population.  How we ever got to a point where a nation attacked as Israel was is expected to NOT KILL CIVILIANS is insane.  Literally insane.  Palestinians are literally totally insane with their values, genocidal almost from birth, and Israel is supposed to protect ENEMY civilians.  Pure nonsense.

Jordan’s foreign minister has said Arab troops will not go to Gaza as he delivered a blistering criticism of Israel’s war on Hamas.

Ayman Safadi clashed with Joe Biden’s senior Middle East adviser on Saturday, saying a humanitarian pause should not be conditional on the release of hostages held by Hamas. The US envoy, Brett McGurk, said the onus was on Hamas to release hostages as a pathway to humanitarian aid increasing and a pause in the fighting.

The pair were addressing the IISS Manama Dialogue security summit in Bahrain, where Arab anger towards Israel’s refusal to negotiate a two-state solution was repeatedly voiced.

Speaker after speaker advised Israel that it would not find security through force.

At the same event, the EU foreign affairs chief, Josep Borrell, indicated he believed Israel could face charges at the international criminal court, adding: “One horror does not justify another.”

Safadi, in a no-holds-barred attack on Israel and the cover being provided by the US, said faith in peaceful negotiation and international law was being destroyed by the west’s refusal to rein in Israel.

The credibility of international law had fallen victim to its selective application, he said. “If any other country in the world did a fragment of what Israel did, it would have sanctions imposed on it from every corner of the world.”

He said even those who accepted Israel was acting in self-defence “keep telling Israel to act within international law. It is not, so where do we go from here? Keep telling them to do it? They keep refusing to do it. People are being killed day in and day out.”

He said: “International law has to apply to all. The message seems to be that Israel can do whatever it wants. That is what the world is seeing, [that] Israel is above the law.”

When Israeli planes hit northern Gaza at the start of the war, and troops prepared to move in on foot, Israeli messages urged civilians to move south of the Wadi Gaza wetlands for their own safety.

Despite risks on the journey, and severe overcrowding in shelters and private homes, hundreds of thousands followed those orders. About 1.6 million people are displaced, more than two-thirds of Gaza’s population, the UN said.

They found only relative safety there. Forty days into the war, 3,676 people had been killed in southern areas that Israel had declared safer. They accounted for a third of all Palestinian deaths in the conflict, according to a UN map using figures from Gazan health authorities.

Now many of those people have been told to move again, and cram into an even smaller area along the coast, around the town of Mawasi.

"They asked us, the citizens of Gaza, to go to the south. We went to the south. Now they are asking us to leave. Where do we go?” Atya Abu Jab told Reuters, outside the tent where his family who fled Gaza City now live, one of a long row of makeshift homes.

On Saturday morning, bombs hit a multi-storey block in Hamad City, a middle-class housing development in Khan Younis, killing 26 people and injuring 23 more. A few miles north, six Palestinians were killed in an attack on a house in Deir Al-Balah town.

Israel’s chief military spokesperson, Rear Adm Daniel Hagari, said on Friday that the country’s troops would attack “wherever Hamas exists, including in the south of the strip”. He told journalists: “We are determined to advance our operation”.

This week Netanyahu admitted in an interview that the war was taking a heavy toll on civilians in Gaza, but blamed Hamas for the deaths. “That’s what we’re trying to do: minimal civilian casualties. But unfortunately, we’re not successful,” he told CBS.

"There will probably be more civilian casualties,” Giora Eiland, a former head of Israel’s national security council, told Reuters. “It is not going to deter us or prevent us from moving forward.”

Israel Strikes Lebanese Aluminum Factory, Says Lebanon Media

Israel’s military struck an aluminum factory located in southern Lebanon around 4 a.m. local time on Saturday, Lebanese state media said.

The factory was in Nabatieh, close to the border with Israel, the National News Agency reported. It’s the first time the region’s been attacked by Israel since its 2006 war with Hezbollah, according to NNA.

Earlier, Hezbollah, a Lebanese-based militant group backed by Iran, said it downed an Israeli drone. It also said its fighters attacked Israeli soldiers gathering near the Lebanon-Israel border.

Germany's Scholz criticises Israel's settlements in occupied West Bank

BERLIN, Nov 18 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticised Israel's settlement policy in the occupied West Bank on Saturday and repeated calls for a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians.

"We don't want any new settlements in the West Bank, no violence by settlers against the Palestinians in the West Bank," Scholz said during a visit to Nuthetal in Brandenburg state.

The best outcome for Israelis and Palestinians remains the two-state solution, he said.

"If some in Israeli politics distance themselves from this, we will not support them," Scholz said.

Scholz also emphasised the importance of German humanitarian aid for the Palestinians.

Germany is not only on Israel's side, but together with the U.S., it is the largest donor of humanitarian aid for the Palestinians, the chancellor said.

"It is not the states in the neighbourhood, although some are very rich," he said in reference to Arab countries. "We are the ones who make it possible for schools and hospitals to be run there," he said regarding the Palestinian territories.

JERUSALEM — The first suggestion that Hamas terrorists committed acts of extreme sexual violence and rape against victims during their Oct. 7 rampage through southern Israel came on social media early on that fateful Saturday morning six weeks ago.

Two short videos, shared by the terrorists themselves, quickly emerged showing groups of cheering Palestinian men, some armed, in the streets of Gaza crowding around half-naked and bloodied young Israeli women.

In one clip, a woman later identified as German-Israeli citizen Shani Louk, 22, can be seen barely clothed lying unconscious in an unnatural position on the flatbed of a pickup as men spit and abuse her body while screaming "Allahu Akhbar."

In another video, 19-year-old Israeli soldier Na’ama Levy is pulled from the back of a jeep by an armed gunman, her hands bound behind her back and  thick blood stains between her legs, as Palestinian men jeer at her.

Israeli officials are cited as saying that negotiations to free the hostages held in Gaza are currently stalled.

In comments picked up by all the main TV networks, implying a coordinated leak, an unnamed Israeli official claims that military pressure is pushing Hamas toward making a deal.

The reports also imply that Israel is unwilling to compromise on its demand to free all the children being held in Gaza as well as their mothers.

President Joe Biden says the United States is "prepared to take our own steps" to combat alleged attacks by Israelis on civilians in the West Bank.

Biden, in an opinion piece for the Washington Post, outlined his framework for what must be done in the wars in Ukraine and Israel. While discussing the solution for the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, he urged a two-state solution with the Palestinian Authority controlling both Gaza and the West Bank.

"As we strive for peace, Gaza and the West Bank should be reunited under a single governance structure, ultimately under a revitalized Palestinian Authority, as we all work toward a two-state solution," Biden wrote.

The president also called out Israeli settlers who have reportedly attacked Palestinians in the West Bank since the war in Gaza began, threatening visa bans against the "extremists attacking civilians."

"I have been emphatic with Israel’s leaders that extremist violence against Palestinians in the West Bank must stop and that those committing the violence must be held accountable. A White House official said there is no current deal in place following a Washington Post report that Israel and Hamas had reached a tentative US-brokered deal to free hostages and pause fighting.

"We have not reached a deal yet, but we continue to work hard to get to a deal," Adrienne Watson, the White House National Security Council Spokesperson, said in a post on X Saturday night.

The initial report, citing a "detailed, six-page agreement," said fighting would pause for five days as the initial 50 hostages were released in small groups.

The Washington Post report also said humanitarian aid would enter Gaza through Egypt during the pause in fighting.

An early Saturday morning airstrike in Khan Younis, a residential district in southern Gaza, killed 26 Palestinians and wounded 23 more, according to Reuters.

Continued Israeli attacks in the south, particularly Khan Younis, which has a population of 400,000, could displace more Palestinians, hundreds of thousands of whom fled Gaza City in the north, the report said.

Senior Israeli sources told Reuters an offensive in the southern region could prove more complex and cause more bloodshed, with Hamas having a stronger foothold in the Khan Younis area.

"All of them were martyred. They had nothing to do with the (Hamas) resistance," Eyad Al-Zaeem, who lost his aunt, her children, and her grandchildren in the attack, said to the outlet.

President Joe Biden directed top officials to prepare visa bans and sanctions for extremist Israeli settlers attacking and displacing Palestinians in the West Bank, according to an internal document read to POLITICO.

The Cabinet memo, sent to senior aides like Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Friday, orders their agencies “to develop policy options for expeditious action against those responsible for the conduct of violence in the West Bank.”

A senior U.S. official read sections of the memo to POLITICO on Saturday evening shortly after Biden published an op-ed in The Washington Post revealing his intentions for such a move. “The United States is prepared to take our own steps, including issuing visa bans against extremists attacking civilians in the West Bank,” he wrote in the op-ed.

The directive comes as the Biden administration aims to show that it’s supporting Palestinian civilians in need, even as it staunchly defends Israel’s retaliation against Hamas, and while members of the president’s party seek conditions on military aid to Washington’s ally.

The targets for reprimands are broadly defined in the memo. They include people or entities that “have directly or indirectly engaged in actions or policies that threaten the security or stability of the West Bank,” take “actions that intimidate civilians in the West Bank with the purpose or effect of forcing displacement actions in the West Bank,” or make moves “that constitute human rights abuses or violations and actions that significantly obstruct, disrupt or prevent efforts to achieve a two-state solution.”

The memo notes that Biden sees the settler-violence issue as a “serious threat” to peace among Israelis and Palestinians and destabilizing throughout the Middle East.

The decision to issue the directive came after intense debate on the topic, with national security adviser Jake Sullivan and deputy Jon Finer offering their direct input during a dedicated internal process, the official said.

It is hard to forget the footage of 19-year-old Naama Levy being manhandled into a jeep in Gaza, her hands tied behind her back and her grey tracksuit covered in blood on the bottom.

The footage showed men with guns and Naama being dragged from the boot of the car to the passenger seat while others looked on and celebrated.

The teenager is just one of the many hostages who were ripped from their homes on October 7.

In a bitter twist, it has been revealed Naama was a peace activist dedicated to promoting values of mutual understanding between Israelis, and Palestinians.

She was a participant in the "Hands of Peace" project in the USA, where young Americans, Israelis, and Palestinians meet in the pursuit of peace as "a lever for global social change."  .  .  .

This simply doesn't happen.  Anyone witnessing an Israeli West Bank settlement can see clearly that the settlement was build from scratch in an area where no one lived.  They aren't displacing anyone.  You can stand on a hill near Jerusalem and look out on a vast expanse of blinding wasteland.  And far off, there will be a tiny patch of green.  That is an Israeli settlement, built up from nothing.  No one got displaced from that spot because no one was there in the first place.  This is THE biggest lie perpetrated by Western media since the Uncle Joe days of the 1930s and 40s.

Israeli officials warned of a "grave incidient" after Iran-backed terrorists in Yemen hijacked an international cargo vessel in the Red Sea on Sunday.

The Houthi terrorist group had claimed to have captured an "Israeli" ship, but Israel says none of the crew on board are Israeli. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office says the ship is owned by a British company and operated by a Japanese company.

"The hijacking of a cargo ship by the Houthis near Yemen in the southern Red Sea is a very grave incident of global consequence.The ship departed Turkey on its way to India, staffed by civilians of various nationalities, not including Israelis. It is not an Israeli ship," The IDF said in a statement.

Israel says the ship's crew includes 25 crew members of various nationalities, including Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Filipinos and Mexicans.

"We strongly condemn the Iranian attack against an international ship," the PM's office said.
