Fentanyl had been flooding into the U.S. across the southwest border, even when Title 42 could be used to oust self-proclaimed illegal alien “asylum seekers,” in order to protect the nation from an influx of infectious diseases, such as COVID.

Fentanyl has now become much more dangerous, as drug suppliers have been lacing it with the horse tranquilizer xylazine, which makes the drug last longer – but, also can have a deadly, flesh-eating effect.

About a quarter (23%) of all fentanyl powder seized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) last year contained xylazine.

“Xylazine is making the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced, fentanyl, even deadlier,” DEA Administrator Anne Milgram warns. “DEA has seized xylazine and fentanyl mixtures in 48 of 50 States.”

The mixture gives users a “calming sensation” and is used as an additive because it’s cheaper than fentanyl, Gary Yabuta of the DEA’s High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program, told KHNL.

From Los Angeles to New York City, health officials in major cities have seen a surge in cases of the flesh-eating zombie drug – but, since xylazine itself isn’t an opioid, the typical treatments to reverse the effects of a drug like Fentanyl are ineffective.

In Philadelphia, 90% of opioid samples on the street contain xylazine. The city has deployed “mobile medical units staffed with nurses to help those suffering from a ghastly side effect of xylazine: rotting skin at the injection sites,” WSAZ reports............

A recent study conducted by the conservative watchdog group Media Research Center found that ABC, CBS, and NBC's coverage of the southern border focused "almost exclusively" on the "plight of illegal immigrants" and dedicated less than 2% of that airtime to reporting on the drug trafficking crisis.

On Monday, MRC released the results of a study that examined the media's coverage of the border between October 1, 2022, and July 20, 2023. The watchdog group reviewed over 254 minutes of southern border coverage from ABC, CBS, and NBC's evening newscasts.

Less than 15% of the border coverage addressed issues related to the influx of illegal immigration under the Biden administration. Additionally, less than 2% of that airtime reported on the illegal drug trafficking crisis.

Instead, the big broadcast networks were more concerned about covering migrants' hardships and the ending of the Trump administration's Title 42, which allowed the United States to expel illegal migrants back to Mexico.

The networks spent more than half of the 254 minutes covering the Trump-era policy, slamming the restriction for making life more difficult for migrants waiting to cross the border into the U.S., MRC reported.

"As is often the case with ABC, CBS, and NBC, the newscasts continued to focus almost exclusively on the plight of illegal immigrants," MRC stated. "Nearly every full-length report included sound bites from migrants desperate to enter the United States. Throughout all 254 minutes of border coverage, they never once used the terms' illegal immigration,' 'illegal immigrant,' or 'illegal alien.' Smuggler with ties to ISIS helped migrants cross into US from Mexico: Report

The FBI is investigating a dozen Uzbek nationals who have been allowed into the U.S. after they previously sought asylum at the Mexican border. The investigation was sparked after U.S. intelligence officials discovered the migrants had apparently traveled with the help of a smuggler who reportedly has ties to ISIS.

CNN reported that the FBI has not yet identified an ISIS plot, but it is still trying to "identify and assess" all the individuals who gained entrance into the country, per national security spokesman Adrienne Watson. The authorities are also carefully tracking a group of migrants as possible criminal threats.

The situation was so pressing that a classified intelligence report made it into the morning briefing books of President Joe Biden's top Cabinet officials. Mexican drug cartels are attempting to overwhelm and distract Border Patrol officers by sending mobs of migrants to rush the southern border, the New York Post reported Monday.

Sources told the outlet that cartels have been fueling false online rumors, telling migrants hoping to seek asylum in the United States that they will be allowed into the country. According to law enforcement officials, the alleged falsehoods are meant to distract overworked Border Patrol officers while the cartels attempt to sneak drugs across the southern in less populated areas.

Fox News Digital reported that more than 2,200 migrants illegally rushed across the southern border in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Monday morning. After crossing, the group was processed by Border Patrol agents.

Customs and Border Protection posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday, "Under U.S. immigration laws, most noncitizens coming to our border are not eligible to remain in the United States. Dem Texas mayor says city is at 'breaking point' as border crisis rages

A Texas mayor is sounding the alarm amid a dramatic spike in migrants crossing the U.S. border, saying his city has reached a "breaking point."

"The city of El Paso only has so many resources and we have come to... a breaking point right now," El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser, a Democrat, said at a news conference Saturday.

Leeser's comments come as El Paso has faced over 2,000 migrants per day crossing the border and seeking asylum in the city, putting a strain on resources and overflowing the available shelter space.

"So, this is something that we've been prepared for, but these numbers have really escalated a lot quicker than we ever anticipated," he added.

The city is just one of several border cities in Texas and California facing a surge in mostly Venezuelan asylum seekers, according to a Reuters report, with many taking dangerous routes on buses and cargo trains to reach the U.S. border.

Leeser said the city plans to open a new shelter, though on Saturday El Paso chartered five buses to move migrants to cities such as New York, Chicago and Denver. The mayor said the migrants were being moved to the city of their choice, with many lacking transportation to get to their preferred destinations while El Paso's shelter capacity currently can only host 400 people and also has to serve the city's homeless population.

The crisis at the U.S. southern border could become "worse" should the "dysfunction" in the House of Representatives block Congress from reaching a deal to prevent a federal shutdown, Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly said Sunday.

Kelly, D-Ariz., appeared on CBS’ "Face the Nation" and blamed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., for failing to get conservative Republican hardliners to agree with a conservative spending plan to keep the government funded.

South Carolina Republican demands mainstream media cover 'open' border crisis that 'nobody can deny'

Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., clashed with CNN host Jim Acosta on Sunday over the border crisis, with the GOP lawmaker arguing that "CNN should report what's going on."

Acosta repeatedly asked Norman how Republicans planned to secure the border if there is a government shutdown and said, "I guess I don't understand that."

Thousands of 'special interest aliens' from Middle East countries stopped at southern border since 2021: data

Thousands of "special interest aliens" from numerous countries, including the Middle East, have been arrested by Border Patrol agents while attempting to cross the U.S. southern border illegally over the last two years, according to internal Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data leaked to Fox News.

"Special interest aliens" are people from countries identified by the U.S. government as having conditions that promote or protect terrorism or potentially pose some sort of national security threat to the U.S.

Hamas terror attack fuels conservative concerns about border security amid migrant crisis

The brutal terror attack that Hamas launched against Israel last week is intensifying Republican concerns about what they see as an unsecured border and a historic migrant crisis that has left Border Patrol agents overwhelmed.

Venezuelan migrants attack, injure Texas National Guard member: officials

Two Venezuelan migrants attacked and injured a Texas National Guard member in El Paso, Texas, causing him to fall into razor wire, Texas authorities announced this week.

Texas Department of Public Safety said that the incident took place on Wednesday morning. The soldier said that while he was standing near the wire, a female migrant grabbed him by the neck. Then, a male migrant grabbed his leg, causing him to tumble into the wire, which authorities had set up to prevent illegal migrant crossings.

He was later assisted by troopers and soldiers who came to his aid. The migrants were identified as a 38-year-old Venezuelan woman and a 33-year-old Venezuelan man.

Both were charged with assault, but the woman was charged at large — meaning she was freed — because she was traveling with children. The man, meanwhile received a $3,500 bond.

High migrant numbers break multiple records in new blow to Biden border strategy

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Saturday announced that migrant numbers at the southern border for the month of September had reached new levels with the highest monthly encounters on record as well as the highest fiscal year total on record, in a significant blow to the Biden administration’s border strategy.

There were 269,735 migrant encounters in September, of which 218,763 were encountered entering illegally by Border Patrol agents. That brings the yearly total for migrants at the southern border for FY 23 to 2.48 million, higher than the 2.38 million in FY 22 and 1.73 million in FY 21. There were just 458,088 encounters in FY 2020.

Of those who entered, 43,000 individuals were processed in through ports of entry via the controversial CBP One app, which allows migrants to schedule an appointment to be paroled into the U.S.

Meanwhile, there were 18 encounters of people on the terror watch list between ports of entry at the southern border, taking the total for FY 23 up to 169 — a new record and more than the last six fiscal years combined.

In a statement, acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller said that the agency is surging resources and personnel "in response to high rates of encounters" at the border. The White House this week asked Congress for $14 billion in funding for its border strategy, including more staffing and money for migrant services.

Miller also noted the start this week of deportation flights directly to Venezuela, where a significant part of the migrant population is coming from.

"We are continually engaging with domestic and foreign partners to address historic hemispheric migration, including large migrant groups traveling on freight trains, and to enforce consequences, including by preparing for direct repatriations to Venezuela," Miller said. "CBP will continue to remain vigilant, making operational adjustments as necessary and enforcing consequences under U.S. immigration law."

"The supplemental funding request announced yesterday would provide critically needed additional resources, including additional CBP agents and officers to support our essential missions: from border and migration management, to countering fentanyl and keeping dangerous drugs out of our communities," he said...............

Ted Cruz demands action from Mayorkas over threats to Border Patrol agents: 'Cartels are emboldened'

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is urging Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to provide more information, and take additional action, to combat threats against Border Patrol agents — which he attributed to "emboldened" cartels at the southern border.

"As you are no doubt aware, your primary mission as Secretary is to secure the United States from threats, a task that can only be accomplished through the efforts of dedicated officers and agents who put their safety at risk on a daily basis," Cruz said in a letter to Mayorkas. "While there are numerous threats to our national security, few compare to the danger posed by our open southern border."

Cruz noted House testimony from the DHS chief in July in which he said that agents at the border "perform bravely despite public attacks on their character and service; despite unfair and inadequate pay; and despite, as frontline agents repeatedly tell me, threats made against them and their families."

Cruz then cited reports of text messages in El Paso, Texas, that solicited personal information — including family information — of Border Patrol agents, including a pledge to torture them and post it online.

Fox has not confirmed those reports, but Customs and Border Protection (CBP) told Fox News Digital that it "takes all threats, including those directed towards agents and their families, very seriously."...............

GOP senators bash Biden's immigration policies after trip to border: 'Increased threat for terrorist attack'

GOP Sens. John Barrasso, John Cornyn, Ted Cruz and Pete Ricketts railed against the Biden administration's border policies as migrants continue to enter the U.S. illegally.

"We have just returned from our southern border, and it is painfully clear that with Joe Biden's open border policy, our country is really at an increased threat for a terrorist attack," said Barrasso, the Senate Republican Conference chairman, during a press conference Tuesday.

Border Patrol agents seized immigrants carrying with them explosive devices "tailored for terrorism," he said.

Following the border trip last Thursday and Friday, Ricketts added that the country is "opening ourselves up for a terrorist attack."

San Diego GOP officials call for closure of southern border amid terror concerns: 'Shut it down'

Officials in California's San Diego County are calling for the closure of the southern border, amid heightened terror concerns and a recent memo warning of the potential for terrorist fighters to attempt to enter the U.S..

"It’s time to close the border to new immigration," San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond said during a recent press conference.

Desmond spoke alongside El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells and other local Republicans who backed calls for increased border restrictions.

He cited directly a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) memo issued last week, a copy of which was obtained by Fox News, which warned that individuals "inspired by, or reacting to, the current Israel-Hamas conflict may attempt travel to or from the area of hostilities in the Middle East via circuitous transit across the Southwest border."

"Foreign fighters motivated by ideology or mercenary soldiers of fortune may attempt to obfuscate travel to or from the U.S. to or from countries in the Middle East through Mexico," the memo, issued by the agency’s San Diego Field Office's intelligence unit, said.

The memo, first reported by the Daily Caller, specifically mentions Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Hezbollah.

It warns of possible indicators, including military-age males, the possession of military gear, single travelers, an undetermined return plan and an association with the region...............
