I was 23 years old at the time...and can't believe I didn't even hear about it.....or know about it until it was all over the news.

Melody Gardot - Who Will Comfort Me (Live Abbey Road 2009)

Melody Gardot, original composition "Who Will Comfort Me"

Just listened to this... Awesome, my good friend.  Awesome.

I read her story...  Amazing.  She had severe head trauma in 2003 while she was riding her bicycle.  She was hit by a Jeep Cherokee and apart from her many broken bones, she suffered severe brain damage.  She took up music as therapeutic efforts to restart the brain.  It was a a major accomplishment when she could hum a tune!  While she still has many difficulties such as light sensitivity and time perspective, she is working to develop music therapy programs with various hospitals.

I have a new hero.

Thanks.

How Melody Gardot Found Her Voice

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/01/24/sunday/main6136473.shtml

it would take years . . . music therapy began to rebuild the neural pathways in her brain.

This is the same therapy they are using on Gabby Giffords.
