Sen. Ted Cruz Statement on Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement regarding the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah:

“Our Israeli allies have accomplished enormous military successes over the last year against the Iranian-controlled terrorist group Hezbollah, killing thousands of Hezbollah terrorists, eliminating Hezbollah's entire command, and dismantling its infrastructure across Lebanon. These actions have directly contributed to vital American national security interests, including directly by liquidating terrorist leaders who had the blood of hundreds of Americans on their hands. Indeed, the U.S.-Israel relationship is at the core of U.S. interests in the Middle East, and American policy should be to provide unequivocal military and diplomatic support to our Israeli allies to fully ensure their security.

“However, the Biden administration has spent the last four years pathologically obsessed with undermining Israel and boosting Iran, including by coercing our Israeli allies to cede maritime territory to Hezbollah. They are now using the transition period to the Trump administration and a Republican Congress to try to lock in those efforts - and to constrain the incoming administration - by establishing what they believe to be irreversible diplomatic, legal, and military policies. However, these and similar international policies are not irreversible. This month, I led a letter co-signed by 10 other Senators saying that the U.S. will fundamentally reevaluate our relationship with the U.N. and the Palestinians if Palestinian President Abbas fulfills a pledge he made to secure Israel's expulsion from the U.N. General Assembly. Last week, I joined my colleagues in vowing to act against the International Criminal Court for undermining American and Israeli interests by issuing arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, and said everyone involved in the decision should face American sanctions.

“I am deeply disturbed both by reports that Obama-Biden officials exerted enormous pressure on our Israeli allies to accept this ceasefire and by how those officials are characterizing Israel's obligations. This pressure and these statements are further efforts to undermine Israel and constrain the incoming Trump administration. Obama-Biden officials pressured our Israeli allies into accepting the ceasefire by withholding weapons they needed to defend themselves and counter Hezbollah, and by threatening to facilitate a further, broader, binding international arms embargo through the United Nations. Obama-Biden officials are already trying to use Israel's acceptance of this ceasefire to ensure that Hezbollah and other Iranian terrorist groups remain intact across Lebanon, and to limit Israel's future freedom of action and self-defense. Administration officials, including Secretary of State Blinken, today even downplayed Israel's right under the ceasefire to strike terrorist groups in Lebanon when those groups pose imminent threats.

“These constraints have been rejected by our Israeli allies. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that under the ceasefire Israel retains full freedom of action to counter Hezbollah if the group attacks Israel or tries to rebuild its terrorist infrastructure. The United States should allow and assist Israel in doing so, and I am committed to working closely with the Trump administration and my colleagues in the incoming Congress to ensure they are able to so.”

Israel agreed to this nonsensical agreement because they did not have a choice.  But the good news is that roughly 50 days from now, the Biden Idiocracy will be on the rock pile.  Trump will fully support Israel, I am 100% certain of it.  In fact, if Netanyahu should plan for that moment, and when Hezbollah or Hamas lob their next rocket, he should issue orders to level Gaza in its entirety or the southern half of Lebanon. 

It should be noted that the majority vote that took place in Lebanon was for Hezbollah.  So, like Gaza, where the people there last voted for Hamas to the tune of 85%, it should give license to Israel to completely destroy either area in totality, not leaving a blade of grass.  Otherwise, all this nonsense of the genocidal maniacal mussies repeat this whole thing again.

Israel and Hezbollah accused each other of breaking the ceasefire that took effect only a day prior.

The Israel Defense Forces announced on Thursday that several “suspicious incidents” had been identified in southern Lebanon in violation of the ceasefire. The IDF and Israeli Air Force had responded with strikes.

“Earlier today, IDF soldiers identified two terrorists arriving at a known terrorist infrastructure site, that had been used to fire dozens of projectiles into Israel over the past month. The IAF struck the terrorists,” a statement from the IDF read.

“Additionally, over the past hours, IDF soldiers operated to prevent the advancing of additional terrorists in southern Lebanon,” it added.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, two Lebanese were wounded in an alluded-to artillery strike near the border.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah accused Israel of violating it.

Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah in turn accused Israel of violating the deal.

“The Israeli enemy is attacking those returning to the border villages,” Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah told reporters. “There are violations today by Israel, even in this form.”

The Lebanese military, tasked with enforcing the ceasefire, also accused Israel of violating the ceasefire.

If so, talking about it in public is not wise.   More likely, Israel is putting out a plausible, but untrue, statement of intent so they can watch for increased activity by the Iranians to secure their sites, which will give Israel further intelligence on where Iran is hiding its nuclear facilities.

The Israeli Army on Wednesday said it had recovered the body from the Gaza Strip of an Israeli citizen who was kidnapped by Hamas during its terrorist attack on Oct. 7 and held hostage, and was working to identify the remains of another body as a possible Israeli hostage.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), along with Israel’s intelligence services, located and recovered the body of Youssef Ziyadne, 53, from an underground tunnel in the area of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, and returned his body to Israel, it said. The IDF said Ziyadne was killed in captivity.

The IDF said it also had evidence related to Ziyadne’s son Hamza, who was also abducted on Oct. 7. Officials said the information raises serious concerns for his life, but did not confirm death.

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz said the bodies of Youssef and Hamza were recovered in an “heroic operation” and said he had grown close to the Ziyadne family, who accompanied him in meetings with world leaders to advocate for the hostages release, during his time as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Hamas expected to release 33 hostages in first phase of emerging ceasefire deal, Israeli officials say



Hamas is expected to release 33 hostages during the first phase of an emerging ceasefire agreement being finalized by negotiators in Doha, two Israeli officials said.

Israel believes that most of the 33 hostages are alive, a senior Israeli official told reporters on Monday, but the bodies of dead hostages will also likely be among those released during the initial 42-day ceasefire. Hamas and its allies still hold 94 hostages taken from Israel during the attacks of October 7, 2023, at least 34 of whom are dead, according to the Israeli government.

The senior Israeli official said that the parties appear to be on the verge of an agreement and that Israel is prepared to immediately implement the deal once it has been inked.

US President Joe Biden expressed similar optimism in a speech Monday focused on foreign policy, saying the US was “pressing hard to close this.”

“The deal we have structured would free the hostages, halt the fighting, provide security to Israel, and allow us to significantly surge humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians who suffered terribly in this war that Hamas started. They have been through hell,” Biden said. ...................

Israel and Hamas are zeroing in on a ceasefire and hostage release deal, with an Israeli official telling The Hill that Hamas has agreed to terms.

Shortly after news reports emerged late Wednesday morning, President-elect Trump celebrated on Truth Social.

“WE HAVE A DEAL FOR THE HOSTAGES IN THE MIDDLE EAST. THEY WILL BE RELEASED SHORTLY. THANK YOU!”

No announcement had been made by the Biden administration as of noon Wednesday.

The deal would open the door for a possible end to more than a year of fighting since Hama’s Oct. 7 terrorist attack against Israel, and Israel’s subsequent war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli security cabinet will have to vote to accept the terms of the deal, and then a second vote will go before Israel’s parliament, the Knesset. If the deal passes both those votes, there will also be time for appeals against the deal to be brought to the Supreme Court.

Trump had warned of “all hell” breaking loose in the Middle East if Hamas did not release hostages before he is sworn into office on Jan. 20, and his special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, worked closely with President Biden’s negotiators to reach a conclusion of the deal.

An Israeli official told The Hill that the process should now move quickly and the ceasefire could start as soon as Friday.

"A Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal was reached following the Qatari Prime Minister's meeting with Hamas negotiators, and separately Israeli negotiators in his office," a source briefed on the matter told Fox News.

Separately, a senior Hamas official confirmed to Fox News that a deal was reached. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has yet to confirm the deal.

Reuters also reported that a deal has been reached, citing an official briefed on the agreement.

The conflict, which began with Hamas’ brutal attacks on October 7, 2023, has left over 1,200 Israelis dead, more than 250 taken hostage, and thousands of others killed on both sides.

President-elect Donald Trump, who threatened last week if a deal wasn't struck before his Inauguration Day that "all hell will break out" in the Middle East, quickly offered his praise.

"This EPIC ceasefire agreement could have only happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November, as it signaled to the entire World that my Administration would seek Peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our Allies," Truymp wrote on TRUTH Social. "I am thrilled American and Israeli hostages will be returning home to be reunited with their families and loved ones."
