Prof. Jeremy Black of Exeter Univ. a ranking Historian, wrote definitively about Slavery.
Now Bush makes an unproven assertion, needing reflection.
Slavery was, in effect, born w/Man. But why? Because of the nature of Man. How so?
Man is comprised of many characteristics, having a Body, representing his material
presence, as well as a Psyche (defined by Plato, arguably the wisest Man ever created
by the Almighty) representing his spiritual presence and comprised of consciousness,
ego, mind, nature, passion, soul and many more.
Each of the latter are influenced by multiple factors which create ideas and motivate
us differently. Consequently, each and every one of us are unique & unequal,
an eternal truth labeling the cliché "WE ARE ALL CREATED EQUAL" the greatest load
of bullshit ever uttered since Adam!!!
This natural inequality produces different actions and outcomes throughout life;
as some are wise & some stupid and as well, some are strong & some are weak
and so on and so on.
As a result Slavery, the domination of the weak by the strong was as inevitable
as the dawn and setting of the sun.

In reference to "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL",you forgot to finish the statement, you dumbass!

The US Constiution states that "All me are created equal IN THE EYES OF THE LAW"!

NOBODY is trying to claim everyone is physically or mentally equal, just equal in value in the eyes of the law.

Jeez! I understood that when I was in the 3rd grade, and you are a college professor that doesn't understand it?

Blacks are not free only to the extent that they are still voluntarily subjugating themselves to their old slavemasters in the democrat party, and to the demeaning, dysfunctional culture democrats and liberals push as being the only "authentic" way of being black - poor, in the hood, on welfare, in a gang, committed to violence and fathering children out of wedlock.

@Kamaji

And there it IS! Thank you,new poster! EXCELLENT post!

I can only imagine the inner anger of successful blacks NOT involved in politics that worked their way up in this world, and thanks to the activities of the black parasites and their running mates in the Dim Party, that have to stand by silent while this bullshit is being spread far and wide.

Regardless of intelligence or natural abilities, all men are created equal, endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, among these Life Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is no attempt to say all men will have equal ability, motivation, or outcome, but that in the eyes of their Creator, they all have the same Rights.
That does not mean that they will stay equal, in any way, or that they had equal abilities from the onset, it just means all have the same God-given Rights. There, the notion of interminable involuntary servitude, especially being born to it, runs aground. The court which imposed slavery on these shores violated those fundamental unalienable Rights, and had that not been done well before the Declaration was penned, the issue would not have been an issue, except for working off indentures and apprenticeships, essentially getting travel or education through the promise to work off that debt.

Unfortunately, far too many take the concept of being equal in the eyes of God or the Law, and twist it into other areas where it clearly does not apply. It isn't even a racist thing, as not all people from the same demographic will display the same talents or abilities.
----------------------
Fair retort begging a reply.
Ancient history recalls Sargon, Hammurabi, Imhotep, those who built the Pyramids as well
as those who created the Gardens of Babylon; among hundreds who rose above the crowd
because of their uniqueness.
Notably, tangible achievement and emphatically not crowd applause, was required to sit in the Greek Assembly or the Roman Senate.
From Eden till the Enlightenment, spanning multi-millennia, Man understood and promoted
those unique, as creators that bettered his well being, thru Art, Science or Other Disciplines.
Then the Enlightenment dawned, a fateful turn, led by ideologues such as Danton,
Rousseau and Voltaire who insisted LIBERTE' (Freedom) was Man's highest calling because
of EGALITE' (Equality).
These fanatics asserted that since "we are all equal brothers" our material condition would
improve when Man was free to do as he pleased as he would act in the self interest of all.
Some 300 years later, we continue to believe this horse manure and pay for its consequences.

'All men are created equal' was a political cliché created during the Enlightenment
by French ideologues bent on revolution to decapitate the Monarchy and seize power.
Jefferson, though never one of them, was sympathetic to some of their notions and
his French fiancé at the time, encouraged this.

"No man who knows ought, can be so stupid to deny that all men naturally were borne free, being the image and resemblance of G-d himself born to command and not to obey: and that they lived so."

-John Milton-
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

Baby and bathwater @Absalom ...

I have asserted hereon before that there were TWO doctrines lifted up nearly simultaneously in the so-called 'enlightenment' - One being the French Rights of Man, and the other, the matchless Declaration of Independence of the United States. You quote but ONE as problematic, and Conservatism is represented in the other.

It is PROFOUNDLY TRUE that all men are created equal in the sight of God and in natural law. It is absolute that sentience REQUIRES certain God-given inalienable rights by the mere presence of sentience... The ability to choose one's own way and speak ones own mind, and thereto defend ones self - These things and others CANNOT be left to the courts of Man (except in just cause and due process).

The fatal flaw of the Rights of Man is in this very thing - What man ordains, man can take away.

That equality of Man that IS TRUE is that he is endowed by his Creator, and that ALL are equal under the law.

This has naught to do with equity, or equality of outcome, which you cry against, as found in socialism and communism. You'll find none to disagree with you there.

But Equal before God, and Equal before the Law - The true point and meaning of 'all men created equal', must necessarily be defended to the very end. Without that, none of our rights are ours.

Some would argue that the greatest verse in the entire Bible is Genesis 1:27.

cori bush is a marxist/communist.

When she says "Black People Still Aren’t Free", she is applying the communist principle that "the revolution is ongoing and never-ending".

In other words, blacks will never be "free", because they will never be "equal" no matter what is done by whites to appease their demands.

And actually, I concur with at least part of her claim, and I'll explain why.

Taken as a racial/social group, blacks cannot achieve parity, equity, equality (call it whatever you wish) with whites or Asians. Not in America, and not in any other country which blacks (as a group) share with whites (as a group) or Asians (again, as a group).

Charles Murray and Richard Herrnstein explained why in their book, "The Bell Curve". There are graphics of the distribution of intelligence amongst races and countries of the worlds, but it's not necessary to post that, because you already know how they look.

This isn't going to change, unless or until we can change genetics and inherited intelligence itself.

How would you propose to bring that about?

  • I need to be in love, K.c. R.C.
Blacks will never be free as long as democrats engage in hard or soft slavery, being on the plantation and dare not stray off it.  President Lyndon Johnson (D) made the soft slavery clear doleing out the Treasury to blacks that stay on the democrat plantation; We'll own those N-----S for 200 years, and he really meant it!  The democrats love to point at people and scream racist, Racist, RACIST!  All they while proud knowing that secretly they never changed from being racists, only the conned and deceived changed their perception, by political brainwashing of the democrats.

The things that drive one man to excel, to create to explore, while others are content to live in squalor, may be present at that moment of creation. However, in the context of the Declaration, those things are moot.

It is not what we will accomplish (or not) in life, even the presence of great talent means nothing for those not willing to develop it.

The equality mentioned in the Declaration is to be found in the God-given Rights of all.

Now, what has been considered to be a "right" has, of late, been distorted to encompass the envy and greed of those who proclaim it thus, but in going back to basics, to Life, Liberty, and Property, to the Right to defend what is yours, including all three, to proclaim honorable concepts and deride dishonorable ones, these are all rights we all possess, even if we are not endowed with the ability to do so eloquently.

At the moment of creation, there is no accomplishment, only potential (which means nothing without the desire or will to achieve that potential, and the time to do so), and all of us, left on a hillside for a fortnight would perish. After that moment moment of creation, there is no guaranteed equality except (theoretically, at least, the reason for establishing Governments to protect our Rights) that what we have we keep, unmolested by those who would take it from us, no matter how great or miniscule that is, be it wealth, land, that which we create, our privacy, our ability to defend ourselves and families, our skills, our knowledge, and our freedom to keep our thoughts to ourselves or express them as we see fit, so long as that does not infringe on the rights of others to do the same.

That the product of those abilities will stand or fall on its own merits is the standard all should embrace; none intended to state that the outcomes would be equal, only the rules.

The success or failure (because the freedom to fail is as essential as the freedom to succeed, in both the development of an individual and their talents, and a society, a nation, as well) will reward or penalize those who act or do not.
No one has a right to the fruits of the labors or talents of others after they were created, save, by convention, those they are responsible to support.

Quote
By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return
(Genesis 3:19)

But in the end, despite fanfare and trappings, all will be (in this life) equal again.

The next level has different rules, dependent on what we did in this one.

Blacks will  not be free if their concept of freedom is that they have a right to an equal outcome with those (regardless of race) who have worked hard if they, themselves, have not.

A potential virtuoso will never play as well as a mediocre talent who practices relentlessly, there are skills to be developed, too.

It isn't even a question of potential, it is a question of working to rise to that potential.

As long as those Blacks currently enamored of Communism believe that, somehow, having equal stuff today as someone who worked for their stuff will make them equal, they will be slaves to their envy first, and their own sloth, second. Equal rights do not determine equal outcomes, and tomorrow, those who apply their talents and efforts will have more, those who merely would seize the fruits of those talents and efforts will not have as much..

If they aren't free, their chains are forged by greed, wrought of envy, and could be removed only by determination to stand on their own and produce that which they wish, rather than exert themselves trying to take it from others.

But to climb out of this equity rabbit hole, the equality professed in the Declaration was an equality of Gd-given Rights, the same rules for all, applied the same.

Equal Rights does not mean the 'right' to an equal outcome.

A quibble here or there, yet no fundamental disagreement w/your assertions.
My naysay w/political Declarations, be it the Rights of Man, Independence
and all others, is that their meaning is interpreted by whomever is grinding
their ax, a reality that should be beyond obvious to posters on TBR.
Repeating, from Eden till the Enlightenment, Man embraced Rights, giving him
the Freedom to create and innovate, improving his well being over hundreds of
thousands of years.
Yet he also accepted the constraint of Responsibilities that integrated w/ those Rights;
the critical component that has been rapidly eroding over the past 300 years, for
which we can thank the ideologues of the Enlightenment as well as our own political
types and their brainless fans.
