Ms. Barrett is going to become the next nominee, when Ginsburg exits (unless Clarence Thomas retires at the end of the current term, next summer).

The Kavanaugh imbroglio is gonna look like tea and crumpets when Mr. Trump nominates her.

Will the Pubbies still be willing to do what it takes to win?

Iam moderately optimistic, about the GOP.

It took Trump, to give them the chance.

But whenever I see the names Flake, Sasse, I think of certain diehard NTers here.

Ruth will not retire voluntarily.  She just won't.  But the recent video showing her in a state of Alzheimer's like confusion may indicate an involuntary retirement is on the docket.

But the dems will be a bit handicapped in opposing Amy Barrett.  They will risk looking like anti-woman bullies.  If we can get Kavanaugh signed and sealed, I am not at all worried about Barrett.

Erickson?  Wow.

I follow him on Twitter and he's been out there supporting the Kavanaugh nomination almost from the start.

Wonderful. He is proving himself to be quite extraordinary, too, when measured by accomplishments during office.

Not really...he's about average.

Had Amy Barret been the nominee, we would have witnessed the Left, crucify her for her honest, deeply held Catholic religious convictions.

I hope to see that next. Because these leftists are truly evil. They are NOT Nordic Socialists. They are Soviet/Chinese Marxists.

They are toying, with violent overthrow.

@truth_seeker the reality of the situation is that had Trump renominated Merrick Garland the left would have opposed him as strongly as they are Kavanaugh and will surely opposed Barrett.

It's not the nominee they despise so much as it is the person nominating them.

They do despise Trump, but the shifting balance in the SCOTUS is what has them super-agitated.  This is how they've been accomplishing their goals for a long time, by ignoring Congress and going to the SCOTUS.

And its ;one overdue that it be put in check as well.  The SCOTUS was never intended to be used in the way the Dems use it.  The Framers made the judicial branch the weakest for a reason.  The Dems have turned it into the strongest.

I have to strongly disagree with you on that @txradioguy   Of course, they loathe Trump but anyone nominated to be on the Court who was perceived to be fair and not liberal would have been opposed just as strongly.  As @Sanguine pointed out, the lefties have been using judges to get their agenda done for years.  They cannot do it without them.

You severely underestimate how party trumps all when it comes to the Dems.  Just the fact a Republican nominates anyone is automatic grounds to oppose them as strongly as the can.

Please don't kid yourself on that one.

I'm not kidding myself on this one @txradioguy   I think the importance of a liberal court to the dems cannot be overestimated.  I honestly think they would have tried to burn any nominee from anybody who could assumed to be fair.

Unadulterated bullshit.

Not necessarily.  Just go back to Souter.  Sununu thought he’d be an easy confirmation, because he was a relatively blank slate.  Dems opposed him vociferously and he ended up being one of the more liberal members for a very long time.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

Yeah....and AG Sessions should look into the possibility that Souter's FBI file was one of the 800 found in the White House living quarters...with Hillary's fingerprints all over them.

Unadulterated bullshit.

So Dems don't despise Trump?  You're saying it's "unadulterated bullshit" that he could nominate the Pope and they'd trash his pick as being unfit?

How do you figure that?  I'm curious to know.

Unadulterated bullshit.
That was my first take, and even after some thought I think it's extremely improbable.  I really doubt the rats would refuse a gift from Trump just because he is Trump.  The rats were perfectly willing to sign on to huge spending bills and only the most "progressive" ones are slamming the tariffs.  The rats would jump onboard for Garland or a judge of similar philosophy.

DemocratUnderground.com is in complete meltdown mode right now over this.

There's even the obligatory "I'm moving to Canada" thread.  :silly:

Ok I admit I have not read a single post in this thread besides reading the headline...

Trump is so flawed as a leader, a politician and as a  human being that this "Never Trump" will never support him. The Trump cult can pass that doobie among themselves but I'll pass..

I think the Judge will vote pretty much as Kennedy has on most cases and on the social issues he will rename the opinions he wrote for Kennedy as a clerk but the outcome won't change..

The fact is as much as I'd like to see it Roe will never be overturned. This circus over Kavanaugh shows that it may be the one/only issue that motivates the base on both sides to keep electing the idiots in Washington...

“Trump is so flawed as a leader, a politician and as a  human being...”

In two years Trump has accomplished more for conservatives and constitutionists than all the recent republican politicians put together.

Before you pass judgment on President Trump... read a newspaper why don’t you. Your ignorance is a glaring embarrassment. @montanajoe

Um.....

which newspaper should he read?   Do you have a list of Trump-approved sources for the ""non-ignorant"" and ""non-embarrassing"" members here?

The thing is, if you're a Republican and you don't like Trump, he'll be gone in 2 years -- 6 tops.  But what the Democrats and leftists have becoming/are becoming isn't going away.  If they get power again, they may never give it up.  Supreme Court packing, "voting reform"... you name it.  All are realistic possibilities that I wouldn't have thought they'd dare try even a few years ago.

The country can recover from Trump.  It may never recover from the left gaining power because the elections and judiciary will be permanently rigged.

@Maj. Bill Martin
This is the salient point. This fight is not Trump vs the Left....that is just one battle in the war.

The "War" is the Left vs every tradition we have of jurisprudence...to include the very basic tenets of presumption of innocence and the concept of due process...republican governance, fairness, and belief in American exceptionalism. While NT's may never approve of our current General in our current battle, let's hope they have the wisdom to perceive the wider war and to fight in that larger cause against the Left. It seems to me that this Kavanaugh ugliness has opened their eyes to the true danger of radical Leftism seizing power in this country...whether Trump sits in the White House or any other Republican.

I don't like rubbing their (NT's) noses in what I perceive as the error of mis-characterizing the President...I think many of them already see their mistake but pride holds them to their position...others will never be able to reconcile their gut level dislike of the President's style and mannerisms. That's just the way it is and that's OK as long as these folks can see who their REAL enemy is. So, its better I believe, to give them (NT's) credit for engaging in the broader culture war and for joining the rest of us in pushing back the Leftist nightmare that is now grasping for power. If they can do that while disliking the President than at least we can work together in situations such as this current nomination fight.
