Any more, I see what they are braying about, then go dig up what I can, weigh the sources, and try to piece it together as best I can. If you ignore the fluff, (like who is hating on who at what pop stand--which really doesn't matter except to signal what is the latest 'acceptable' unacceptable behaviour) you have a lot less to dig through, but the amount of emotionalistic overburden seems to be increasing.

And that is only going to get worse - Right now, you can still winnow the history of a comment - hard to do, but still doable. As censoring software becomes more prevalent, Whole chunks of record will just *disappear*, and tracking something down will become impossible. And emotional belief will become the only judgement. Slim pickins.  **nononono*

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

Unfortunately that leaves winnowing through alternative news sites, and even the opposition's to see what they are signalling about. SIGINT set up the Battle of Midway, it might be the only viable way we have to figure out what is going on.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Nothing has changed

Only the speed of knowing that has.

Slow boat from Chine. Pony Express, telegraph, telephone, cell phones and high speed interweb.

It is only the speed.

Nothing has changed.
