John McCain’s shocking concession on the Iraq War: it was a “mistake”
Tara Golshan

In his new memoir, McCain says he’s to blame for the war.

Sen. John McCain has made a shocking admission: The Iraq War was a “mistake,” and he’s taking the blame.

In his new memoir, McCain who is battling brain cancer, writes that the Iraq War “can’t be judged as anything other than a mistake, a very serious one, and I have to accept my share of the blame for it,” as Politico reports.

I would want to see the full context of what he said.

It WAS a mistake...only in that they failed to consider that the next POTUS could reverse it all.   Who knew...except us...that Obama was anti-USA in the Middle East?

Going to war with too few troops to occupy the conquered enemy nation is always a mistake
regardless of what the next POTUS does.

W was and is a fool. W set the middle east ablaze all because Saddam tried to kill his daddy. W
put family business (get Saddam) ahead of the nations business.

Saddam was in a box with a no fly zone on top of it. It was not in our vital national interest to
invade Iraq.

I agree. Also Saddam was effectively keeping Iran in check thwarting their goal to become a regional threat and a superpower in the Middle East. Saddam was able to do this because he was just as vicious, blood thirsty, and psychopathic as Iran. Saddam would have no problem with political assassinations, kidnapping, chemical weapons, deliberately bombing civilians, or even nuclear weapons, and Iran knew that. These are things that the West would never do. And Iran knew that as well. With Saddam out of the picture (a gift from Bush to the mullahs), Iran was able to blossom into what the are today, a serious global threat.

Also, there is a foundational naivete' in the upper Liberal elite. They believe two ideas which are completely wrong. They believe that everyone wants to live like we do in America. (wrong) And they believe that it is possible to change a society that has been stuck in the 7th century for a thousand years, simply overnight. Bush and his team really believed that once Saddam was removed, Iraq would immediately become like any other American or European State. They would build cookie-cutter houses, and install cable TV. There would be a Starbucks on every corner next to the 7/11. They fundamentally misunderstood M.E. culture and the mindset of the people they were supposedly "freeing".

They could not grasp, and some people still cannot fathom, that the people they were 'freeing' were the same, or in some cases worse, than Saddam himself. They got involved in something they knew nothing about and now it is a huge mess. They should have simply left it alone and let it work out on its own. But Liberals, like Bush and his gang, simply are unable to leave anything alone. They always think they know better.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

That's too simple an explanation offered by somebody who obviously doesn't like GWB.

His intentions were noble.  Why couldn't the USA handle Iraq in the same way they handled Japan/Germany Post WWII, or Korean Peninsula?

Who knew the SOB would use a Status of Forces Agreement paper as a reason to exit the country completely?   WTF did anybody think would happen after that?

And Iran only became a threat because Carter stabbed the Shah in the back, the Shah was overthrown. Think, Iran was once a friend of Israel even under the Shah. Then, with the Mullahs on one side and Saddam on the other, we had to make a choice on whom to support. How much more peaceful all might have been if the Shah stayed in power.

Whoda thunk it, finally a War McCain doesn't like. So it appears safe to say that regardless of who was elected in 2008, Iran would get the Grand prize of Iraq. In hindsight even Biden was right about this one, the Country should have been split up between the Shities, Sunnies and the Kurds.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Adding to McCain's long list of betrayals of our men and women in the Armed Forces, and it comes out this weekend, no less.  McCain just declared the lives lost in Iraq "a mistake."
