What is it you think needs to be done @mystery-ak   (Serious question)

That's a great question, @Right_in_Virginia.  I honestly don't remember what our rationale for intervening in Syria was in the first place.

No idea...That's up to the President and his advisers.....personally I would bomb
Assad again maybe a little closer this time.

If this attack happened and was not a false flag then that means Russia (and Iran) are willing to take
on the USA over Syria. In fact they are inviting us to take them on, recall also that China told Russia
that Russia could count on them for military help. It looks to me like Russia, China and Iran want to
bloody our nose and they think they can. Not good.

I had thought it was regime change, but I could be misremembering it.  Either way, I agree - time to leave.

Time for the President to follow his instincts and leave Syria to the Syrians.

I agree, but Assad must be punished for using chemical weapons, assuming that he did.

Syria knows there will be no consequences since our president made his grand announcement that the US is leaving the battlefield.

Yeah, that is never a good idea.  The bad guys just have to wait it out, and then take potshots at us as we leave as a way to burnish their cred.   I hope we at least remove/destroy all our materiel as we leave.

Perhaps, but keep in mind, it's not just Syrians.  There are also Russians, Iranians, and North Koreans involved.  We'll be back sooner or later.

Is there any way we can get them to shoot at each other, so they all lose?

Stay in the forever war as Pat Buchanan calls it and as of now, that's what it is, the whole Middle East, a "forever war". We do one thing and it leads to other things.

When was war ever declared on Syria? Let's pass that hurdle first.

We went there to whip up on some Jihadists and we did that, assisted the Kurd-majority SDF to win over the ISIS capital of Raqqa.  I hope we can assist the Kurds; other powers can step in as well like the Saudis and the French have made themselves available which Erdogan is still complaining about.

Doubtful.  The original Axis of Evil was 2/3 correctly identified.  The part they got wrong was Iraq, instead of Syria.  Trump has expressed the desire to decrease our presence in the Middle East and withdraw from the Iranian Nuclear Agreement.  On the plus side, it gets our resources out of a region where our only truly dependable ally is Israel.  The two most likely negative consequences are expanding Iranian influence and a nuclear arms race between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Thanks to Obama's cowardly and feckless actions in Iraq the Iranian military is exercising influence with the Iraqi Commanders and were actually more helpful in the fight against ISIS than the U.S. "advise and assist" units. In addition Barry completely abandoned our best most loyal ally in the country...the Kurds.

It appears we're setting ourselves up for a repeat in Syria by not only not staying until the fight is finished...but announcing to the bad actors in the region how long they have to lay low until we're gone.

We'll have to see what happens when Bolton and Pompeo get established into their respective positions.

We may stay, add more men there.  We need to be wary, this is not a country we ever declared war on. I'm all against Assad, that situation is very precarious, his age old enemies are the Muslim Brotherhood, they warred with them circa 1983.  At least, half of those fighting against Assad have been Jihadist types, I"m sure a number of rebels are good people as well. This current conflict grew out of protests.

Trump is approaching this intelligently, not like a hothead and I commend him for it.

Obama's SOS John Kerry said the same thing in 2016.

KERRY: Not enforcing Obama's red line in Syria 'cost' the US considerably in the Middle East

I say, let 'em all kill each and let Allah sort it out, and we should get the Hell out of there.  Never should have been there in the first place.

That philosophy though...when applied in Iraq brought us ISIS.
