Trump kicked off video game executive meeting by showing them gruesome and bloody images from their own products – including an axe going through someone's SKULL
Daily Mail/UK, Mar 9, 2018

*  President Donald Trump met Thursday with executives from the video game industry
*  The meeting was a response to the Florida school shooting that resulted in 17 deaths
*  The president brought up studies linking video games and violence
*  He began the meeting with a video clip from violent video games
*  One showed an axe going through someone's skull, said a participant
*  Many scientific studies now question any link between videos and actual violence

<snip>

The meeting included representatives from the gaming industry, a multi-billion field. They included Mike Gallagher, CEO of the Entertainment Software Association and video company CEOS such as ZeniMax Media CEO Robert Altman.

Also there was Strauss Zelnick of Take-Two Interactive, owner of the 'Grand Theft Auto' game.

Trump met on Thursday with the makers of popular video games 'Grand Theft Auto' and 'Doom' to discuss what the president believes is a link between video games and violent acts like last month's school shooting in Florida.

It was the latest in a series of meetings Trump has held to talk about how to stop mass shootings at schools. Trump has said he would consider a wide range of policy options, but has not yet clarified his positions on how best to address gun violence.

Trump kicked off video game meeting with 'horrendous' skull-splitting and impaling clips, participants say
Washington Examiner, Mar 8, 2018

<snip>

Dave Grossman, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and author who also attended, said Trump then turned to representatives of the video game industry.

"President Trump said, 'Did everyone see that clearly?'" Grossman recalled.

"He played a video of a bunch of horrendously violent slashing games and then he turned to the industry representatives and said, 'What are you going to say about this?'" Grossman said.

Grossman said industry representatives offered "bogus research" showing no link between video games and violence. He said Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., was an active participant in the discussion and said things he agrees with.

"President Trump asked each individual, 'What do you think needs to be done?'" he said.  The graphic compilation that Trump played at the meeting appeared on the White House YouTube channel Thursday evening.  Watch: the White House's violent video compilation:   ***

Grossman said he personally argued at the meeting that video game violence has caused violent youth behavior around the world, not just in the U.S., as industry representatives argue.

Henson, whose group advocates against depictions of sex, drug use, and violence in mass media, said she could not recall the precise wording of Trump's question to industry members, but that they responded by saying children were not the targeted consumers of violent games. She said that she argued that regardless of intent, children are playing the games.

Industry representatives included Mike Gallagher, CEO of the Entertainment Software Association, or ESA, a video game trade association, video game maker ZeniMax Media CEO Robert Altman, and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. Take-Two Interactive owns the well-known video game franchise “Grand Theft Auto,” in which players commit violent crimes including carjacking and vehicular homicide. ZeniMax Media produces the first-person shooting games "Doom," "Risk," and "Prey."

What is the point?  Does POTUS think the video game manufacturers are just going to stop making the games that make them $$ millions?

Yes, I think he does.  The rating system hasn't worked as intended.

Personally I think it's a fool's errand.  If the game makers actually tone things down, it would create a secondary market for game add-ons to put it all back in.

I guess we should be grateful those young farmers back in 1775 didn't view Great Britain the same way.

When did we become so defeated ... afraid ... weary to even try?  Is there one avenue too cluttered to travel to protect our kids?

Collectively we have been arguing that these games/movies/music are destructive and help create the monsters invading our schools.

Do we want the argument or the solution?

So, why is it Trump having to draw this conclusion and correlation?  Why is it not the same idiots that are calling for more gun control (and even confiscation)?  Oh wait.   Because violence in video games instigates real-life violence (via copycatism).... and the leftist video makers are helping to further that leftist agenda (gun control)...  by impressing weak minded "children" with that culture of violence and thereby instigating incidents like mass shootings.

Nevermind.

No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

Certain FPS games like the Battlefield series are rated M for mature, due to content.  Nevertheless, minors are on PSN and Xbox Live, playing them, because parents allow it.  Lax parenting in not the manufacturer’s fault.

One more thing the federal government has no business being involved in.

I remember the rating system for music Tipper Gore championed in the 80s had the opposite effect as intended. The explicit lyric sticker meant sales would skyrocket. The so called 'filthy 15' became the top selling artists almost over night.

Where parental guidance is lacking the government is always happy to step in.

As with almost every other social malady these days the responsibility ultimately rests with us.

Trump's Video Game Violence Theory Is Not Supported by the Supreme Court or Researchers
By CHRIS MORRIS February 23, 2018
http://fortune.com/2018/02/23/donald-trump-video-game-violence/

Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Donald Trump says he believes video games are having a negative impact on the nation’s youth—and suggested “something” needed to be done about them.

[...]

“California relies primarily on the research of Dr. Craig Anderson and a few other research psychologists whose studies purport to show a connection between exposure to violent video games and harmful effects on children,” wrote Scalia. “These studies have been rejected by every court to consider them, and with good reason: They do not prove that violent video games cause minors to act aggressively.”

[...]

Chris Ferguson, a professor of psychology and criminal justice at Texas A&M, said, “As a video game violence researcher and someone who has done scholarship on mass homicides, let me state very emphatically: There is no good evidence that video games or other media contributes, even in a small way, to mass homicides or any other violence among youth.”

[...]

Fortunately, one advantage of Trump being regarded as a buffoon is that this summit has been just laughed off.

Perzackly.  Rating are only effective if it means Parents step in and interfere with the acquisition.  That's not happening, for whatever reason.

Personally, I think the "connection" is a bit overblown.  I don't think the gore in video games is causing people to go shoot up their cities.

It’s about damn time someone addressed the epidemic of mass axe murders, especially the massacre of the English language when someone axed a question.  How many more queries must die before we stop talking about it and do something?

But we're not getting the job done @skeeter   We've certainly complained about this, raised our hands and pointed fingers at its destructiveness, but we have not affected change and our kids and society are paying the price.

If the offense is having the government regulate this industry, then start a grass roots movement.  With the power of the bully pulpit behind such an effort, the time to raise voices and boycott industries is now.

Why not see the possibilities?

You know what I'm weary of?  Thinking the bleep government is the answer for every damn thing wrong.  The fact is the government has become the cause of most of the problems.  But please, continue on with your fantasy that our sweet POTUS is going to make game manufacturers change their evil ways so that parents don't have to be responsible for what their stupid kids do.

Well, we've got a stalemate here because I'm weary of the parents who are not doing their jobs.  I'm weary of other parents thinking getting involved in this issue is too big, or too hard ... or unnecessary.

But most of all I'm weary of kids killing kids --- and the parents who wait until the slaughter spills all over their breakfast nook to wake up.

These parents have created the void the government wants to fill.  If government isn't the answer, then parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles need to step up to the plate in sufficient numbers to matter --- or they need to at least stop bitching about the culture in modern America.  Their inaction is their consent.

Well, if people like Cruz's parents wake up, we'll probably be glad there are kids who have played violent video games like Call Of Duty, containing Nazi zombies.

^^^^^THAT was BRILLIANT!

The liberal Left sees government as Mama - and the Trumplican 'Right' see government as 'Daddy'.

Same damn difference.

Why not take the President's meeting as a warning to Americans, including you:  Do something about this or government will because the status quo is untenable.  What does it take to motivate you, to get you to stand up and organize instead of whining about politicians?

Feel free to disregard my question if you're okay with the violence in videos/music/movies, the "entertainment" our kids are marinating in.

If so .... relax, enjoy --- but stop whining if government dares to tread where you will not.

What exactly do you think *I* should do to my neighbors who let their kids act like assholes?  And how do you think I would know what my neighbors let their kids watch and play inside their own home?

Yep, you think government are our parents... There it is in a nutshell... All of our freedoms come from government and if "we" abuse them then government will take them away...

That's not brilliance.  It's common sense in a society that is supposed to relish freedom.  I don't need or want anyone thinking they need to take care of me and I don't need or want to think I need to take care of someone else.  There's nothing special about any of us that are self-reliant that would keep anyone else from doing the same.  But we've got a whole society now of whiny little bitches who are afraid to take care of business.

You may have bought into the 'It takes a village' mentality, but I don't need a 'Daddy' Government like you do.

As for motivation to 'organize' - I already told you that we are working towards getting Conservatives out of your failed party and into an actual Limited Government party.

Feel free to disregard my question if you're okay with the violence in videos/music/movies, the "entertainment" our kids are marinating in.

Unlike you Liberal Big Government people, I do not view government as a solution to the problem.  It IS the problem.  Violence in entertainment is just a morality, religious and principles problem that you people have lectured us in the past couple of years as wholly irrelevant and a scourge and pox in your party.  The very morality you have ridiculed and dismissed as irrelevant and a 'purity problem' the you don't want anywhere near your politics, is the root cause of our cultural rot.

If so .... relax, enjoy --- but stop whining if government dares to tread where you will not.

You and your liberal pals in the Democrat party have already trod down principles and biblical religion being prominent in favor making men your kings and government your god.
