Sad but true @INVAR  However for all these people talking about how conservative Trump is...I like to draw from Reagan's own words as a reminder to them about just exactly how far from Conservatism both they and Trump really are.

They are just different flavors of big government. It is like the fascist at war with the communist... One or the other is inevitable they say, so pick a side. The lesser evil...

No thanks.

Good point.  The lack of studies that "link" violent video games to mass murder isn't a free pass to the abdication of common sense.

Prepubescent children playing games the object to which is to inflict realistic violence on others cannot be healthy.   Common sense says it desensitizes them.  Most can compartmentalize such images and actions, but for others the games are similar to chronic masturbation.

I don't want "more laws",  but I have no objection to a bit of the "bully pulpit" being applied concerning the responsibilities that each of us has when it comes to raising our future generations.   Parents, to be sure,  but the folks who profit off these games need to understand that they are obliged as members of the community to exercise some restraint.

Color me shocked. Another vote for big Federal government playing parent to American citizens.

It's not the job of the federal government to do what you Libs are advocating.

Any links or pictures to back up your always doubtful claims?

Well, I'll go against the grain in this thread.

Good on Mr. Trump for doing just what he did.
Show them the crap they purvey, and rub their noses in it.

Somehow, the meme that the overwhelming and gratuitous violence in today's video games (mostly consumed by the young and impressionable) doesn't "promote violent behavior" -- well, it just don't wash with me.

Would you also proffer that teaching children about explicit sex over and over from age 9 or 10 (and up) doesn't promote sexual behavior?

Would you prefer that the kids get exposed to the sex, the violence -- or both?

Trump is the leader of all Americans, not some one extreme fringe, he is doing excellent.

Your kneejerk blatherings are ridiculous.  I'm not calling for more laws or censorship,  other than the self-censorship and self-restraint that we all ought to exercise in our lives.   Constant immersion in violent imagery is no different than pornography.   It's called self-abuse.

Trump thinks he "owns" the United States and the people have to do what he says.  The next step is "putting you away" if you don't do what he says.  He is a dictator, not a right, not a left, a freaking dictator to decide what the USA does and what you do.  He also wants to run news organization and limit what they say about him, because he thinks he owns them, too, right along with owning you.

Right.  And Episcopalians say Islam is a path to salvation, Methodists practice bowing to Mecca in services, ECLA Lutherans hold interfaith services by reading a Quran from the pulpit and Rick Warren promotes Chrislam from his church, all of them claim to be Christian.

It doesn't matter if at one time they may have been - today they are apostates to the foundations laid in scripture.  They call themselves 'true Christians' yet ignore Christ's own Words and embrace ideas wholly antithetical to the bible as a form of worship.

Likewise, we have those who claim to be Conservative who are nothing but apostates to what they used to believe in.  But, because Trump - all paths lead to freedom and salvation apparently.

You can cite all the 'Conservatives' out there from Limbaugh to Michael Reagan - and it does not impress me or cause me to accept that their judgment is more sound than mine.  To insist that such 'Conservatives' see Trump - a provable life-long Liberal Democrat who actually campaigned for, funded and voted for Hillary and Bill DeBlasio - is somehow the greatest Conservative we ever had for president, is the same thing as a 'Christian' trying to convince me that Islam is just as valid a path to salvation as Jesus.

More over-the-top (off the rails) hyperbole.  How, exactly, is it that you know what Trump is thinking (apparently at all times)...?

He comes off as brash because the aholes he is combating (now) are brash and brutal leftists.  I do think he actually cares about the future of Americans and about the nation, unlike all leftist former presidents and a few globalist RINO ones.   And no, I am NO fan of Trump.... but I'm not going to sit by while folks make outlandish statements like that.

@Victoria33 @XenaLee
I think Victoria33 was being a bit hyperbolic.  But the President himself has spoken about muzzling the press (using libel laws, broadcast licenses, etc.), controlling what Americans do (re violent video games, for just one example).  If he doesn't want to be perceived as seeking dictatorial powers, he needs to stop making statements that mimic those of dictators.   What he says MATTERS and gives us the perception that that's what he's thinking.

Well which is it then?   Do you agree with me that the words she posted were hyperbole...

is Trump trying to be a dictator.

I think given the amount of power that Congress has surrendered to the Executive Branch in the last couple decades, and the REFUSAL of the other branches to hold overt criminality, corruption and treason accountable,  warrants a healthy fear from us towards anyone in that office - because anyone in that position has the "legal" ability to act as one.

I mean what I said.  He thinks he owns the country and can do whatever he wants with it and us.  His actions prove it.  I doubt he will serve out his term; if he does, it will be worse for the country and us.  Don't bother with word fights; I don't do that.

I do think he actually cares about the future of Americans and about the nation, [...]

If so, he should reverse course and start acting tgat way, rather than trying to stab them in the back and tear down America.  Bill Clinton didn't ask "Boxers or Briefs", though he answered.  Trump is crude without being asked.

Trump's assault on ordinary Americans, whether supporting DACA invaders with amnesty, or driving up the cost of living, or calling for limits on the Constitution, seems unrelenting.

IMO Saying "he owns us" = hyperbole.  Using his own words to demonstrate he has dictatorial tendencies = reality.  He demonstrates a lack of knowledge of our checks-and-balances and clearly wishes he had some dictatorial powers.  In fact, he speaks about how shocked he is that he DOESN'T have more dictatorial powers.

We had warned that someone who owns a corporation, by design, is a dictator as owner - and would have difficulty governing a Republic, because all Trump knew and was familiar - was that he speaks - and all his employees make it happen.

That he would want to run the country the same way was a warning that went ignored.

I wonder if we would have had similar problems with H. Ross Perot.

For sure.

Reading this conversation, I am reminded it's a rare CEO who gets to run his company like a dictator, where everybody jumps at every command, every snap of the fingers.  The large, large companies have a Board of Directors who are answerable first to their stockholders, so CEOs don''t have the free hand most of us imagine they do.  It depends on the company, but we do hear stories of CEOs who were fired by their company.  Steve Jobs got fired from Apple, once.

The large company that is attempting a hostile takeover of the company that is trying to buy mine (try and run that around your mind for a while!) has to get sympathetic board members in place, who would then fire their CEO to enable the buy.  The Feds just put a one-month hold on that board meeting.

I have listened to conservatives complain for decades, about the state of the nation, and their disappointments with politicians.

They expressed hope that outsider(s) might one day, arrive to do better, more decisive jobs of leading.

Along comes somebody fitting that general descrition, a bunch of those people got all wobbly in the knees, and cried out,

"Oh no; not this. We didn't really mean it. We were jut joking. Please give us back our comfort zones with tried and true bureaucrats, dreary speeches, unkept promises, etc."
