France does it.  That's where he got the idea

Unless it's a parade for a war we've won...it's a dumb idea.

The French are good at surrendering too...let's hope he doesn't take that cuebfrom them as well LOL!

It isn't just the WP: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/02/06/trump-orders-military-celebration-in-washington-dc.html

Who thinks this is a good idea? I don't get it.

Come on @DB we know how this works by now.  The media reports in a circle.  From the Fox article: Trump made the order in a Jan. 18 meeting with top generals, The Washington Post reported.   Fox is simply regurgitating the report from the Washington Post.

I just don't see how a Soviet-style, North Korean-style, French-style military parade benefits anything other than President's ego.

^^THIS.

I'm going with this.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Bad idea if true, which I doubt. Our military has better things to spend money on.

Ever wonder what might happen if one of the missiles in those Russian parades launched by mistake?
I suspect some of the equipment in the Soviet parades - like that in Li'l Kim's military parades - was just papier mache and cardboard.

Yes, we have had that type of parade:

A French Style Parade?  That must be one where the parade marches down the Champs-Elysées from l'Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde where the President of the French Republic gives the keys to the Country to its current Occupiers..

One of my favorite generals, but that was a ticker tape parade not a military parade.

The average WWII victory parade in the US may have been like this one in Tennessee:

Apparently, they didn't feature the tanks and heavy equipment, like a Soviet-style military parade.

Your linkie is totally unrelated to the topic at hand.

@Wingnut  RiV is duty bound to use her passive aggressiveness to distract deflect and otherwise draw attention away from ANY criticism of anything Trump does or says.

Hence the reason the posted the totally off topic link.

I'm not duty bound by anything @txradioguy .... I simply hold out hope that the first indication of then President Obama's direct involvement in a scandal starting with Hillary's emails and continuing through FISA warrant abuses may hold more interest than the reporting of a parade story from The Washington Post.

My personal opinion .... nothing more, nothing less ... is the outrage better fits Obama's involvement in what may well be the most profound corruption in US history.

But, I suppose you've got your marching orders.   ^-^

Ha!  I've always loved that photo!

I'm kind of torn about the idea of a military parade.  On one hand, it does evoke some unfortunate parallels and doubtless come with a large price tag.  On the other hand, we have a huge air show as part of the "Thunder Over Louisville" opening ceremony for the Kentucky Derby Festival every year with a large military aircraft presence, and it is absolutely wonderful.

Trump’s got democrats exactly where he wants them. By mid-terms Trump will have had democrats on record opposing DACA kids, opposing the military parade honoring the troops and America’s proud military tradition, opposing middle class tax cuts and job creation and stock market gains, and supporting MS13 over victims of gang murders and supporting government spying on its own citizens!

Democrats always fall for Trump’s traps.

And there’s still more to come. Yep, a year for more democrat missteps ‘on the record’. Despite the coming retirements, the GOP should do very nicely in 2018 thanks to President Trump.

Trump’s vanity and ego always come into question.  That’s largely his own fault.  I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and allow he’s attempting to display American pride, without ulterior motives.  However, I can think of better things to do with the money for the military.  I’ve done work on equipment in VA medical centers for many years.  Few of their facilities have contemporary equipment.  I’m still working on things with CRT screens and floppy drives in some places.

Use the money to get some 21st Century diagnostic equipment for these guys.

Perhaps he's seen too many memes on Twitter

 :pondering:

Wow.... that's a really neat 'show of force' gif.  Some people are so talented with graphic design.

And.... I see nothing wrong with a show of force.  It has been known to ward off physical confrontations throughout history (especially in nature  ... ^-^).

I'm not seeing any outrage here, just opinions opposing the idea of a parade. Mostly, it is from veterans who endured parades when they were on active duty, and the thousands of man hours it took to plan and perform. The few I had to deal with usually disrupted an entire week's training.

We have Memorial and Veterans Day parades, why not use those days instead?

BTW, we KNOW where you get your marching orders from...

You have a point..... except that.... under-funding the US military is always a DemocRat meme and agenda item.  Trump is attempting to get more money for the military as we speak.  It's not completely up to him, however.... and the rats are, per usual, forestalling that effort.  That said... a show of force might actually BE a good idea.... when it comes to the likes of the North Korean idiot.   It might illustrate to him/them why it's a good idea to not go there.  Hope springs....

Cringing at the thought of a military parade, etc., complete with reviewing stand.  But not for the reasons cited thus far.

If anyone has witnessed the Chinese military parades...or even the Beijing  Olympics, their talent for perfect synchronization....no way is that possible in today's US Military.
