Most Voters Welcome Trump’s Outreach to Congressional Democrats

Despite their failure to advance President Trump’s agenda, congressional Republicans aren’t happy about his outreach to Democrats in the House and Senate, but most voters think it’s a great idea.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 66% of Likely U.S. Voters say it is good for the country if Trump works with congressional Democrats to advance his agenda. Just 13% think the bipartisan cooperation is bad for the country, while 21% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Only 19% believe the president should continue to rely on congressional Republicans to pass his agenda. That’s down from 29% in early April. Sixty-five percent (65%) now feel he should reach out more to Democrats in Congress for help versus 58% who felt that way five months ago. Sixteen percent (16%) are not sure.

Republicans (72%) are even more enthusiastic about the president working with congressional Democrats than Democrats (62%) and voters not affiliated with either major party (63%) are.

The question arises of whether this was "bipartisan cooperation" or just a coup handed to the Democrats. There are going to have to be some Dem votes to get revenue measures through the Senate, especially with McCain, Collins, Graham, and Murkowski, et. al. jumping ship on critical matters, but the only way this is 'bipartisan' is that the POTUS went to the Senate Dems, so I'm seeing some mislabeling here.

You must be looking long term. 'After the rubble is cleared from the streets' long term. Even that doesn't seem to be working so well for places which have tried it.

You're welcome @Right_in_Virginia.  I'm not sure though why you think it's "great" that the President has failed, abandoned, and/or has no viable path forward on many of his signature promises (e.g., “Lock her up”, “draining the swamp”, Mexico paying for the wall).

We're supposed to just ignore those promises and cheer his lurch towards the left.

Actually he is following unfortunate precedent.
The members of Congress who promised to secure the borders, end Obamacare (not just change the label), reform the tax code, etc., etc., have consistently managed to renege on their promises too, many not making any visible effort whatsoever to further those ends which they were elected to pursue.

Nor, as it turns out, have nay meaningful attempts been made to enforce the law against other politicians who have made egregious and frequent (and on occasion, ridiculously rampant) violations of our laws.

For all this talk of a new Sheriff in town, I'm just seeing bid'ness as usual.
