Correspondents’ dinner organizers ask host not to make fun of Trump

By Mara Siegler

April 28, 2017 | 9:16pm

“The Daily Show’s” Hasan Minhaj, who is hosting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in DC, was asked by organizers not to make fun of President Donald Trump, who will not be in attendance, says a source who saw the comic at the Village Underground on Thursday.

“It was a polite request because Trump is so thin-skinned,” the source said.

Reuters’ Jeff Mason, who is president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, insists he never said Trump was “thin-skinned,” but added that he wanted a balanced event.

We know he is thin-skinned.  We saw all his Tweet-wars that would go on endlessly when he felt he was dissed.

But hey - everyone insisted that Trump was going to be our savior, so who cares that he is more sensitive and a bigger baby than Obama was about his freaking ears?
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Since Trump decided he didn't want to attend, I think he should be fair game.  Let the two-year-old throw another tantrum so the world can see how immature he is.

Another option is to use the Gong Show approach.  Get the hook.

It usually comes out as a big "WAAAAAHHHHHH!", though.

As soon as you are told not to mock, parody, satirize, criticize, or challenge a leader, that is the exact time that it is the most important to do it.

Or ... the correspondents can return to the true purpose of the dinner which is a scholarship benefit for gifted students in college journalism programs. This is what the dinner is supposed to be all about .... not trashing a President they disagree with.

But I'm sure you knew this @Applewood

I guess "thin-skinned" is only OK if it's Obama's?

@AbaraXas

This "emperor has no clothes" so it's really easy to mock him.  My guess is they will ignore him and make the giving of their scholarships the crux of the dinner.

That would be the intelligent thing to do, which is why I think they won't do it that way.  No, this will be wall-to-wall Trump bashing.

Past presidents were roasted at these events and they lived to tell about it.  I believe President Bush (43) attended these dinners and the media hated him. I don't recall him throwing a tantrum or whining "I'm not going.  They will be mean to me."

Didn't we have enough of the press treating Obama with kid gloves?  If Trump had any class at all, he would go, enjoy himself and maybe get in a few barbs in return.  But since he won't, let the attendees yuck it up at his expense.

I'm sure they will, and his not being there will have no effect on it.

Obama redux.

Don't make fun of the king.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

"Sometimes I think the Church would be better off if we would call a moratorium on activity for about six weeks and just wait on God to see what He is waiting to do for us. That's what they did before Pentecost."   - A. W. Tozer

Use the time God is giving us to seek His will and feel His presence.
