That's completely true.  The Democrats have brought this country to where it is today because of relentless incrementalism, and they do that because this country generally does not like big change in practice.  It may like it in theory but when push comes to shove in terms of enacting "big things", voters get nervous.  They'll take 10% of a loaf each year, knowing that they'll get the whole damn thing in 10 ears.  But tell Republicans that ten cents on the dollar is still better than nothing, and you'll be called every name in the book.

Interesting point.  We used to call that creeping socialism.  The problem is that if it keeps creeping, it finally gets there.

Advantage for dems... they do not care about violating principles since they don't have any.

Its not a flaw, its a primary feature of federalism and a selling point of conservatism.

What you're pushing is good ole top down obedience to our betters progressivism.

It also functions as a nice check and balance (how it was intended to work), since the GOP is hardly ever in 'lockstep' agreement..... unlike the Democratic Party.

The vast majority of those RINO's previously qualified their promise to repeal ObamaCare with a promise to replace it and keep certain things in place.  They'd actually be breaking their promises if they did vote for a straight repeal with no replacement.

I believe Trump made similar commitments.

Exactly..... ie two steps forward, one step back (communism methodology) ...is still one step "forward".

Excuse me??? I am not pushing that at all and can't imagine how you could infer it.  I am attempting to explain why it's harder for Republicans to get things done than democrats.

You may have 'betters' but I don't.

It is a little scary how uninformed so many Americans are and it's not exactly their fault but in a way it is.  I only listen to Fox News.  I can dismiss their bias and still realize I am getting the news.

An example is that situation in a Maryland high school where a 14 year old was raped by two illegal aliens aged 17 and 18.  It is a big trial there and involves the fact that it occurred in a sanctuary city and the officials refuse to let the immigration status of the perpetrators be introduced at trial.  I saw this on Fox this morning and apparently there is a news blackout on this story everywhere else.
@Emjay , I first saw that story on an NBC site and posted it here, then.  I don't know why they quit (It was around midnight) carrying it if they did, but FOX had picked it up by the next morning.
With huge pressure on MD Gov. Hogan to sign the sanctuary state bill the House just passed there (he has said he won't) there will be no 'bad' stories about illegals in the State or the DC metro area to mess up the promotion of illegals and 'sanctuary'.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

And people try to tell us the press has no power.  It has way too much power and many ways of using it.  It can refuse to cover a story so that 99% of the people don't know it's even happening.

It can diminish people in subtle ways.  Small example:  when referring to Rick Perry's cabinet appointment, one liberal paper called him "Former Dancing with the Stars candidate Rick Perry."

So many accomplishments and they dissed him with that.

If you try to look up this story, you get a pretty biased take.  I posted it on Facebook but nobody reads my posts.

I think this is pretty dang important... aside from being a horrible thing for the 14 year old, it is a great illustration of the danger of sanctuary cities.  Tucker Carlson had the defense attorney for the illegal (who, by the way, is the ugliest guy I ever saw) and was pressing him on the morality of defending this guy.  Everyone in our system deserves a defense but the guy was having a hard time.

Of course it is.  And that 'oh so superior-mindedness' is also another liberal trait.  They're always soooo much smarter than anyone else they consider to be their opposition, dontcha know.

I knew Ryan wasn't about to let this be voted on without knowing for sure he had the votes.

Better than outright losing IMHO.

Nope.  It's just like I said.  And since when did you defend a rabid Trump supporter here?  That's news.   :tongue2:

I wasn't defending anyone.

That's why I wish they'd vote on it anyway.  No need to speculate at that point who gets the blame -- or credit, depending on your perspective -- for it failing.  Just call the roll, and tally the votes.  Then tell the "no" votes that it's up to them to come up with something that can actually pass.

Yes.  Now the whole thing is just in limbo.  It would have been nice to know who voted what and why.

I understand that @IsailedawayfromFR , do you not think members of the Freedom Caucus weren't in contact with Cruz and Lee or am I assuming to much, past history has shown this to be true.

Which is one big reason the bill was pulled rather than go to vote!
