@DiogenesLamp Trump nothing. The briefings really aren't all that important. Look, we've had a complete idiot running the nation for 8 years. I'm talking about a man so stupid that he couldn't even UNDERSTAND the briefings.
So now, anything above the level of idiocy is all right with you, and you'll justify it? Those are extremely low standards. You can do better. In fact, you should, for the country.
How much worse off could we be with a President that doesn't even get them? Throwing darts at a dart board could achieve a better policy outcome than Obama with all his briefings.
See my previous remark.
Right now the most important thing for Trump to do is build up political capital. He's got to convince all you Never Trumpers that he can do some good, and the way to do that is to "focus like a laser beam on the economy."
He can do that and receive the briefings, too, unless you think previous presidents-elect did nothing BUT take briefings. Somehow they managed to multi-task. Trump will have to, as well, so he should be getting the habit now of retraining his attention span.
I didn't vote for Trump and I wouldn't do so if offered the chance again. I have said that I intend to give him a chance to see what he can do. If he does something deserving of credit, he'll get it from me. The opposite will also be true. I won't be playing this game of doing backflips to justify and excuse him just because he isn't Obama.
The larger world of foreign policy is not going to come apart because Trump hasn't heard his briefings. He's not even President yet, and so he couldn't act on them if he wanted to. At this point they are mostly just show and ritual, they won't become a serious issue until after January.
And yet, presidents-elect receive them for a reason.
How do you know they aren't very important?
