Beat him like a drum: Donald Trump must not just lose in November; to correct the institutions he’s broken, he must suffer a humiliating defeat

RICK WILSON
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Sunday, August 7, 2016, 5:00 AM

It's been a little over a year now. It's been a year of spectacle and showmanship, fury and farce, demagoguery and disaster. A year in which Donald Trump's con game tricked about 35% of Republicans into voting for him, before Vichy Republican leaders meekly bowed to his will.

The single worst major party nominee in modern history — a man who has no political core, lies practically every time he speaks and is patently unstable — reached this point because every leader and institution in my party, the Republican Party, has failed again and again to grapple with the grim realities of Trump's impact on the election, the conservative movement and the character of our nation.

And so, now, here we are: As revealed by poll after poll, Americans feel worn down by the dirty, ugly character of the dirty, ugly candidate at the top of the GOP ticket.

It's not just that, in the wake of the Democratic Convention, Hillary Clinton has surged ahead in national polls by seven, nine, 15 points.

She is far ahead in every state poll that matters. A Friday poll put her up slightly in Georgia, which has been reliable Republican territory in the last five elections.

Trump's entire path to victory has been predicated on winning white men, particularly less educated white men, in droves. Yet he is right now underperforming Mitt Romney's 2012 showing among whites, men, white evangelicals and whites without a college degree, while hemorrhaging every other demographic.

A growing number of Americans are coming to the realization that Trump is more than just a political train wreck; he's a real threat to the nation, what with the fear of nuclear weapons and the sweeping power of the federal government in his tiny paws.

Respectfully disagree.  Wilson's not to blame for Trump.  Trump is to blame for Trump and the gullible cult worshippers who follow a charlatan like Trump.

LOL!! Are you 'effing nuts?  Going all the way back to Bush to assign blame for the bleep that is Donald Trump?

Your boy is going to be beaten so badly that Trump and his movement will be dead.  A stake through the heart.

So you're telling us that Republicans bellying up to the globalist trough and rolling over to Obama for seven years are NOT at fault for a large fraction of their base saying "enough is enough" and going with the guy who states he will bring down the establishment?  And that the answer to this 2016 Republican Primary thrashing (you know, he DID win it, oh ye who think voting isn't important) is to see the Republican nominee utterly humiliated, with associated Congressional handover via Hillary coattails?  And you think this losing side of corporatists and globalists will then some how regain a majority after Hillary adds 20 million more voters via amnesty?

This sounds reasonable?  Really?  Are you sure it is not YOU who have been tricked by the #NeverTrump #LovesHillary #HatesAmerica crowd into behaving exactly as they want you to?

Unfortunately, a landslide loss by Trump may be the only way to purge the Republican Party of Trumpism, redeem the party's image, and spare our nation from a future of similar demagogues.    Not at the expense of voting for Hillary though. Just can't go their.

There's a side of me that feels like Rick Wilson feels.  I'm not proud of it,   but I just don't like the soccer hooligan approach to campaigning, which just spawns the same crap from the other side (witness that Refenstahl-ish Trump yard sign that was burned down the other day).

But you see, it's the Trumpsters who should  be the most angry, that their Leader doesn't treat them with the respect they bet they think they've earned, by not taking the final race seriously.

Trump is winging this thing, he's improvising and badly so, picking needless fights and pissing off good people,  and he's betraying those of his supporters who take his issues seriously rather than as backstory for a reality series.

As for the rest of us, he's giving us Hillary Clinton.   He's the only one idiotic enough and craven enough to lose to Hillary Clinton.

Trump is toxic and his candidacy must be destroyed. And it's well on the way...........

Your boy is going to be beaten so badly that Trump and his movement will be dead.  A stake through the heart.

By "your" movement, you mean the one that would really like to get back to the days when foreign policy, trade policy, and immigration policy was to benefit US Citizens, not the oligarchs in the US and the unemployed in the third world?

Is the movement you want to see return the Bush "compassionate conservative" movement which gave us lost wars, open borders, and H1-B visas to kill the middle class just as dead as the blue collar worker's are?  Is that the movement you're hoping regains the mantle of the GOP?

Because that's really just the Democrat party of 20 years ago.  Perhaps your efforts would be best suited working in that party to counter the Bernie and BLM wings.

THIS MESSAGE BROUGHT TO YOU BY SOMEONE BANNED ON FREEREPUBLIC FOR ARGUING WITH TRUMP SUPPORTERS.

No. Wilson is the epitome of the Liberal GOPe. He lives on MSNBC bashing Conservatives and typifies the loser mentality the gave Donny an opening in a worthless empty shell of a party.

Do you allow for the possibility that you may be wrong?  Because you're spewing opinions ("toxic") while disregarding the fact that Hillary will eliminate any chance of a GOP victory guaranteed.  We can't convert "Ds" in "Rs" fast enough to overcome the advantage she has from opening the borders.

Your opinion.  What is a fact is Hillary has told us exactly what she's going to do, explicitly, within her first hundred days.  No guessing, no interpretation.

To not vote for Trump, I have to both assume he's lying to me while assuming Hillary is lying to me, too.  Based on what I know, Hillary is only lying to soften the plans she has - her plans are worse than she advertises.

Please get over the FR banning and use your head.  I did.

What is a fact is that Trump is a narcissistic demagogue and a liberal fraud.  The outcome will be no different with Trump or Hillary.

Good riddance to amnesty, open borders, globalism, lack of concern of American workers that is the trademark of the Bush leadership. Win or lose, some transformations have to be good.

Do you think Trump's amnesty will somehow yield R's?

Trump has basically stated that he wants to raise consumer costs by 45%.  That's about the equivalent of a 30% pay cut for every American.  Is that what you think American workers deserve, just to prop up business owners who aren't competitive in a global market?

He detests the middle class and wants to crush it under economic burden.  Why do you have no problem with that?

Donald Trump and the revolting personality cult he has built around himself are an affront to the Party of Lincoln, to constitutional conservatism

He is revolting as is his cult.  A perfect choice by the Clinton Crime figure to ensure victory which she will surely get thanks to the gullible who fell for his lame build a wall shtick.

No, but Wilson is like a quack medicine man who's promoting a cure which is worse than the disease.

He wants the angry conservatives and Tea Party types to do...what?  Bring in the incompetent traitor who's above the law?   WHY would any sane person recommend that, unless in fact the writer is a deranged, deluded Hillarite?

No matter which way we go, the nation's gonna fall.  And when it does, hack, smarmy so-called journalists like this guy should be hanged from lampposts.
