Wow, did this thread get out of hand....
Regardless of whether or not people intend to vote for Trump, public comments like this from people like Wilson do not reflect well on him at all.
Wilson isn't a third party guy -- he claims he's trying to save the Republican Party. So starting from that premise, the problem is that party elites attacking Trump this viciously is going to alienate permanently many Trump voters who might otherwise vote Republican down-ticket or in future Presidential elections. Wilson and his ilk may save the GOP from Trump, but in the process, they will destroy its ability to assemble a majority coalition in future elections.
At bottom, this is just pure, petulant emotionalism. Wilson hates Trump, so he wants to destroy him while insulting everyone who supported the guy. Just plain stupidity.
If Republican leaders don't want to vote for the guy, fine -- don't vote for him. But needlessly antagonizing his supporters -- who do have some legitimate grievances against the party -- helps nobody who is actually interested in helping the GOP. And yeah, I know the "but listen to how nasty they are!" retort. The problem with that logic is that it actually proves the point -- attacking those who don't support Trump doesn't make them more likely to vote for Trump, so attacking Trump and those who support him isn't going to gain votes for the GOP either.
