◾They’ve taken retaliatory actions against conservative members who’ve stood up for Republican Party principles.

Absolutely the truth.... especially the retaliation for representing your constituents....

Why?

For the same reason blacks of Carribean descent hate American blacks.  They do it the right way and are disgusted by the rulebreakers.
Why?  Well, because I'm a bastard, that's why.

The more the GOP and DNC throw at him, the more support he will get.

That part of your post is absolutely correct!  If the GOP were smart they would let Trump participate in the debates and stand or fall on his own merits. Problem is that the GOP isn't smart AND they DO NOT really want to debate REAL issues!

In my estimation, what Donald Trump has achieved is to tap into the deep vein of discontent that runs through America today, and which crosses class, and to some extent, political lines.

Every election year politicians seek our vote, promising action on vital matters. Except, when they win, they either do nothing at all (GOP) or else embark upon a radical reconstruction of America's government and social institutions (Democrats), neither of which we, the people voted for.

In particular, Donald Trump has struck a nerve on the issue of illegal immigration. He has done so not because he is a political genius with a well-thought plan to solve our border security and social service problems, but because he symbolizes the almost perfect disconnect between the American people and our Political Class; the people want the borders closed and immigration limited, while the leaders of both major parties and the special interests who fund them want the door left wide open.

If Trump has a workable plan to fix the problem, I have yet to hear of it. But Symbols don't require plans, they just need money, serious hair, a platform and a microphone.

I predict that Trump's appeal will in a short time, fade. He will fade because beyond his thin veneer of public support, Trump has demonstrated little in the way of useful ideas, principles, policy knowledge, or experience beyond building taxpayer-financed buildings and failing casinos. But like the current occupant of the office he seeks, The Donald certainly knows how to make himself the center of attention at all times.

They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Party loyalty. The coin of the realm. The DC establishment sees it like this. There are only two ways to be. The right way or their way.

I agree. If Trump is to have any staying power, he needs to make solid proposals, and on more than the single issue of immigration.

Absolutely!  But the GOP should treat him just like any other candidate and present hard questions for all of them to answer.  The American people are plenty smart enough to sort things out from there!

That first sentence applies to Ross Perot, but it doesn't apply to America, just a sub-segment of it.

I agree with your prediction.

One more thing...

The problem with politics and with politicians today, is that they KNOW that the one thing that they can't tell us during an election year is the truth.

The truth, unfortunately, is that we're in such a deep hole and that everything is so totally screwed up that the only way to fix things is to start making changes that will probably lead to a civil war.

Any time that a politician suggests that the Social Security program needs to be changed, everyone rises up in arms. It does need to be changed because it's not sustainable the way that it exists right now, but we don't want to hear about it.

If a politician told the truth about what needed to be done about the rest of the entitlements, another segment of the population would rise up against them.

If a politician tells the truth about government, government itself will bring him down. Not the GOP or the DNC... the government will.

Truthfully the idea of a politician that promises to do absolutely nothing if elected is alluring to me because every problem that we face right now stems from politicians doing something about things.

that government which governs least, governs best and all that.

Hmmm...

Then why are blacks in worse shape today than when LBJ promised them the world?

I have every reason to believe that a sense of discontent runs more broadly and deeply through America than you appear to believe. My job, as it involves sales and service allows me to speak to quite literally hundreds of people each week and many thousands a year.

While one naturally hesitates to speak of politics (or religion or sex) to one's customers, it is more than apparent to me that people are broadly frustrated, anxious and often angry at what goes on in Washington. They feel powerless and alienated, and in significant numbers.

America by its foundational design has never been culturally unified, but having been around forty and fifty years ago, I can tell you that it once was a far more confident, forward-looking and agreeable place. Today, uncertainty, trepidation and a sense of defeat are more palpable than at any time I can recall.

And our politicians by and large, seem to like it that way.

That's right.

Which is why they never give people all the stuff they promise to give them.

"Give people shit" and "give people ALL the shit" are two totally different things.
I would say American Africans are a perfect example of rights bestowed by man, as opposed to rights granted by God.

That sense exists because it is promoted by politicians trying to gain power.

Trump doesn't solve anything. Hell, the man doesn't even have a platform. He just understands that if he does what most politicians do, albeit on a larger scale, and keeps taking about all the problems that we face, he may gain power.

Reagan was elected on the premise that we could solve our problems without the government, and that government in fact, was the problem. Every single  politician since Reagan, from both sides of the political divide, has campaigned on the idea that they and the government they would head, will solve our problems.

Reagan's elections were the biggest landslides of our lifetimes.

Yes. They create our problems, and then pretend to try to solve them.

If I may be so bold as to offer an amendment.

They create our problems, and then pretend to try to solve them while actually exacerbating them.

Seriously?  The Donald?

Remember the last time we let someone with precious little political leadership experience sit in the White House?  Yeah, that would be the last 7 years.

No one here is giving any serious thought to actually VOTING for the Donald.  At least that is MY perception. Could be wrong.
