The solution is get the government the hell out of the way, like we did in this country for the first 200+ years.

And NO ONE gets affordable health insurance.  What they get instead is assured heathcare as they do now.

How did we get Emjay into this conversation?  I do not recall engaging her on this issue.

I do find it humorous that RIV would attempt to lecture about 'showing respect to fellow members' when all last year, anyone who was vocally opposed to Trump was asserted to be a Hillary supporter/Democrat Plant/ saboteur/Traitor and other assorted accusations.  I guess the term 'respect' is relative.

Free riders are the bane of any guaranteed issue insurance regime.   

So 'guaranteed issue' is a foregone conclusion in your mind.

Insurance rates cannot be affordable if folks can avoid purchasing insurance until they get sick.   Conservatives objected to the ObamaCare mandates enforced by means of the Tax Code.   Fine - the AHCA would eliminate such mandates. 

Only if your 'free riders' actually choose to be insured - at which point the penalties against them assure they won't become insured until the last desperate moment possible... at which time they will crap out and be covered by medicaid anyway.

But honest folks who take responsibility need to be protected from the rates that insurers would be forced to charge if free riders could game the system.   Allowing insurers to punish free riders with higher rates is an equitable solution. 

  If you're unwilling to address the damage done to a private insurance market by free riders,  then embrace single payer and be done with it.   

Only in the case of 'guaranteed issue' which. as soon as the Dems get back in power, will result in single payer anyway. The government in the middle of healthcare only has one ultimate end - and that is single payer.

Anything else (other than getting them out of it) is just a whistle-stop on the way to that end.

Again with a foregone conclusion. affordable insurance is not the question. Affordable healthcare is the question.
Putting government in charge is not going to make healthcare affordable.

Does the "new reply" function actually alert people when someone has replied to a post?  It would be great if it does.

I'm not involved in this fight, but it would be nice to have the system inform you if someone has responded to a post so you can give that person the courtesy of a reply.  Unless something has changed, I personally appreciate it if someone pings me when responding to one of my posts.
