Does the "new reply" function actually alert people when someone has replied to a post?  It would be great if it does.

I'm not involved in this fight, but it would be nice to have the system inform you if someone has responded to a post so you can give that person the courtesy of a reply.  Unless something has changed, I personally appreciate it if someone pings me when responding to one of my posts.

That is all.

At least in my review, anything that I post will be uodated by any new replies to the thread.  (Upper right where it has link....  "Show new replies to your post".  Of course it will show all replies, including those not to me, but it is the best we have.  Sure beats going up to a cluttered "Message Center"

Too bad we don't have a direct reply system like TOS.  But everything else here beats the TOS hands down.

I will never apologize to any of the orange hoard here at TBR.

Just curious @catfish1957 .... are you a "refugee"?

Sure feels like it.

A Trojan horse faux-conservative has seized power and duped a significant amount of our base.  My hope is that the Orange One tires and bores with what he feels is a reality political show.  Once our true hard line conservatives legislators start rebelling, my hope he in a sense "abdicates"

Yeah .. blah, blah @catfish1957

Are you a "refugee" from TOS?  A simple yes or no will suffice.

That's what I always do---check "show new replies to your posts."  Often, especially on a busy thread, people will just reply to one another without pinging.  It's no big deal and nothing to whine over.

I use the new reply function to follow threads in which I participate.   However, it merely alerts you to a new post on a thread on which you've participated,  not whether that new post has anything to do with you or what you've said.

I rarely use the ping function,  but I understand RIV's point that it is useful as a courtesy to those to whom you've addressed personally.

Thank you.  I was in a heated discussion on another thread because I said TOS was the most user-friendly site ever.  But, yeah, that's all they got now.

GOP lawmakers say ObamaCare repeal vote may be delayed

By Jessie Hellmann and Scott Wong - 03/23/17 01:42 PM EDT

The House may delay its vote on the GOP's ObamaCare replacement plan until Friday or next week, several lawmakers said.

"It didn't look like today was going to be when we're going to vote," said Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn.) after leaving a meeting with committee chairs and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who controls the House floor schedule.

Roe said a vote may come Friday.

The vote on the healthcare bill was originally planned for Thursday, the seven-year anniversary of the day ObamaCare was signed into law.
As of 1:30 p.m., GOP leaders had not made a final decision about whether to delay the vote until Friday or next week.

They were still assessing negotiations that took place Thursday between President Trump and the far-right House Freedom Caucus at the White House. After the meeting, members of the caucus said they had not reached a deal with President Trump to win their support.

Several House GOP lawmakers and a GOP chief of staff predicted a vote would be postponed past Thursday night.

"If I were a betting man, I'd say there won't be a vote today," one GOP lawmaker told The Hill.

"At this point, it would have to be [delayed]," said a chief of staff to a top House Republican. "They won't want to vote in the middle of the night."

GOP leaders, however, also were feeling enormous pressure from some rank-and-file members to press on with the vote Thursday. They warned delaying any further could kill the bill outright.

“At some point you gotta say there’s nothing in this world that’s gonna change [the Freedom Caucus’s] minds. I think the window for making a decision is rapidly closing. We need to either vote or go home,” an exasperated Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-Ala.) told reporters.

Kudos to the conservatives giving the orange one the "bird".  The mandate we gave was to repeal Obamacare.  Not create Obamacare lite.

@catfish1957

Absolutely right.
All of them ran on "repeal" (1st) and "replace" (2nd).

None of them ran on "tweek".

Trump doesn't have the votes for passage, and will need to reboot.

If Trump doesn't want to negotiate with conservatives, then he got what he deserved.

You spout your dogma,  @INVAR , but it doesn't hide your lack of grace.

Uhh.... pardon me for butting in here.....but.....

a leftie talking about someone else's ""lack of grace"" is laughable.  And predictably asinine.

Moral of this SSDD (same ole, same ole) story is....

if your GOP-pushed bill doesn't have the votes to pass...

change the damned thing and make it "right" enough that it will pass.  (duh)

I will never apologize to any of the orange hoard here at TBR.  They will be owing us an apology in a few years as this this debacle circles the drain.

IMHO.... a 'few' of them still do owe us (anti-Trumpers) an apology for the way they behaved during the primary.  I won't go into it in detail or name names, but they know who they are and what they did.

 :amen:

Trump made a fundamental mistake delegating everything to Ryan and saying they have to do replacement at the same time. If they pass the garbage that is being proposed now Trump's probably a 1 term POTUS. Go back and first repeal everything. If the Rats don't want to cooperate end the filibuster and repeal it. After repeal start putting in reforms one piece at a time.

Assuming for the sake of argument that I'm a "leftie" (a conclusion that would come as a shock to anyone who knows me),  why does a person's "wrong" positions on political issues mean he or she lacks grace?

You sound like a bigot and a bully to me.   (I'm incapable of grace, so what the hell.)

You're hung up on labels.  Cannot someone be conservative on certain issues but moderate on others?

But you avoided my question - why does someone who may disagree with you on political issues "lack grace"?

No, actually we are hung up on the truth which you are incapable of grasping or espousing.

You sound like a bigot and a bully to me.   (I'm incapable of grace, so what the hell.)

Now all you have to do is admit the fact you are a Leftie/Commie and you will finally have a shred of credibility given everyone on this board already knows what you actually are based on your own words.

Ryan will keep tweaking this failure until he gets enough votes at Trump's insistence, no different than what obummer/Pelosi did in 2010 with the Blue Dogs and with the same disastrous results electorally for the GOP as it was for the dems the following Election (2012). IMHO

I wonder who the Republican version of Bart Stupid is going to be?  "Yeah, just vote for the bill, don't worry, I'll EO out the parts that force Nuns to pay for abortions."

Nope, you cannot be a conservative at all if you espouse other than conservative values.

That's simply bullshit.  I've never claimed to be a social conservative.  But there is a proud tradition of conservatism that is secular, that is concerned with individual liberty and Constitutionally limited government (including when it comes to the bedroom),  and emphasizes such things as economic growth and national security.

But it's more than likely correct that you cannot be a social conservative without also being a bully.  Take your meddlesome religious dogma and, in INVAR's words, stuff it!

As if he didn't need to provide more evidence of on what side of the divide he resides.  Only the intellectually lazy pigeonhole people with labels like "bigot" or "bully."  It saves a lot of work, no need to rebut any real arguments that way.
