WSJ: President Trump has weighed a return to all-out war with Iran, holding multiple conversations in recent days with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine on more strikes, but has decided to stick with diplomatic talks for now.

The conversations have centered on whether the U.S. should abandon negotiations and resume full-scale attacks on Iran,the officials said, a move some of them describe as “finishing the job.” While not making a final decision, Trump has told aides he believes another round of full-scale attacks could derail diplomacy and hurt Washington’s chances of ultimately dismantling Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran will not “allow” other countries to de-mine the Strait of Hormuz, declaring only Tehran will take on the responsibility, according to its foreign ministry — despite expert analysis that it doesn’t have the capability.

“Demining is to be carried out exclusively by Iran and by no other country,” Kazem Gharibabadi said in a post on X. “In principle, we will not allow any other country to do so.”

It came after French President Macron said on Monday that France agreed with Oman to assist in clearing the strait of mines as part of a coalition with allies.

“We have decided to collaborate jointly, in coordination with our partners, on demining the strait to secure maritime routes and ensure free and unconditional passage through the Strait of Hormuz,” Macron posted to X following Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tarik first-ever state visit to Paris.

The statement invited backlash from Tehran, which is working with Oman on plans to maintain the strait once fully reopened.

Lock down the strait, get the border nations together to provide security, bring in rapid response special forces and Marines, and every time they attack, destroy the source, bring in troops to kill the rest, then go back to base. Iran gets no oil revenue.

Wash rinse repeat till they are no longer functioning because they're all dead.

Saudi bases and airspace were critical to the operation and Riyadh’s refusal to cooperate forced the US to abort the mission, the WSJ reveals. At the time, US President Donald Trump claimed that it was progress in talks with Iran that led him to call off Project Freedom after less than two days.

Infuriated by the Saudi decision, the White House threatened to hold back the delivery of interceptors that Riyadh had been using to shoot down Iranian missiles and drones, WSJ says, citing US and Arab officials familiar with the matter.

Riyadh subsequently relented and Project Freedom resumed covertly, but the damage wouldn’t be easily undone, US officials say.

They had announced the start of a new mission to help guide commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran had effectively closed early in the war. U.S. naval and air power would ward off any Iranian attacks during a tentative cease-fire, the commanders said.

But U.S. Central Command was caught by surprise when officials from Saudi Arabia said American forces could not use the kingdom’s air space for the mission, which the Pentagon was calling Project Freedom. The Americans had not consulted the Saudis.

That set off a flurry of tense and urgent phone calls between Washington and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the leader of Saudi Arabia. An outraged Mr. Trump spoke with him on May 4, the first day of the operation, and on the next two days as well, U.S. officials said.

Vice President JD Vance talked to the prince in a separate call, as did Steve Witkoff, the special envoy to the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law. Marco Rubio, the White House national security adviser, spoke to his counterpart.

But the crown prince stood his ground, fearing that the American plan could reignite war. The Trump administration was forced to shut down Project Freedom less than 48 hours after it had begun.

The statement, which Netanyahu made during his appearance on the right-wing Channel 14, was the first time that the premier had ever claimed that Iran had already obtained a nuclear weapon. He has long boasted of advancing policies that prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

He did not elaborate on his claim in the interview and was not pressed to explain the statement.

Netanyahu apparently either got carried away in highlighting the threat from Iran and his steps against the regime or simply misspoke, given that a source familiar with the matter told Haaretz that Netanyahu’s claim is a “complete lie.”

No previous US or Israeli intelligence assessments have previously accused Iran of already building nuclear weapons.

Tehran is preparing for the July 9 burial of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, more than four months after his death, as authorities mobilize the Basij militia and mount a massive security operation ahead of what is expected to be a “historic” turnout.

The lengthy delay to the funeral has raised questions about how Khamenei’s remains have been preserved, as Islamic tradition, analysts say, generally calls for prompt burial and discourages chemical embalming.

“The mechanism is almost certainly refrigerated cold storage, not embalming, as Islam bars chemical embalming,” counterterrorism expert Dr. Mohammed Omar told Fox News Digital.

“Shia law allows delayed burial and preservation by cold in exceptional cases, and a clerical exemption for a Supreme Leader is easy to get,” he added.

“Iran’s forensic morgues already hold bodies for months, so four months in freezing is not exotic. That is what ‘religious and legal standards’ cover,” Mohammed said.

Operation Epic Fury began on Feb. 28 with a targeted U.S. strike that killed Khamenei at his compound in Tehran. He had ruled the Islamic Republic for 36 years.
