WSJ: President Trump has weighed a return to all-out war with Iran, holding multiple conversations in recent days with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine on more strikes, but has decided to stick with diplomatic talks for now.

The conversations have centered on whether the U.S. should abandon negotiations and resume full-scale attacks on Iran, the officials said, a move some of them describe as “finishing the job.” While not making a final decision, Trump has told aides he believes another round of full-scale attacks could derail diplomacy and hurt Washington’s chances of ultimately dismantling Iran’s nuclear program.

The Persians are not negotiating. They are ruling class Arabs.

Beyond that, JD is just incompetent in general, while being a Pit Bull for 47's clown show.

Report: Trump Weighed Return to Iran War, Chooses Diplomacy for Now

U.S. President Donald Trump recently weighed whether to resume a broad military campaign against Iran after reviewing military options with senior officials, but has opted for now to continue pursuing diplomacy in hopes of securing a lasting agreement over Tehran’s nuclear program, according to a report published Tuesday evening.

Iran says it won’t ‘allow’ other countries to de-mine the Strait of Hormuz
By Caitlin Doornbos
Published June 30, 2026

Iran will not “allow” other countries to de-mine the Strait of Hormuz, declaring only Tehran will take on the responsibility, according to its foreign ministry — despite expert analysis that it doesn’t have the capability.

“Demining is to be carried out exclusively by Iran and by no other country,” Kazem Gharibabadi said in a post on X. “In principle, we will not allow any other country to do so.”

It came after French President Macron said on Monday that France agreed with Oman to assist in clearing the strait of mines as part of a coalition with allies.

“We have decided to collaborate jointly, in coordination with our partners, on demining the strait to secure maritime routes and ensure free and unconditional passage through the Strait of Hormuz,” Macron posted to X following Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tarik first-ever state visit to Paris.

The statement invited backlash from Tehran, which is working with Oman on plans to maintain the strait once fully reopened.

You can't "negotiate" with the Iranians.  The mullahs and the IRGC need to go ... with ol' fashioned Cold War covert insurgent tactics to spare America another endless nation-building occupation.

America is great at winning on the battlefield, but terrible at winning the Peace.

Persian negotiation is alot like union negotiation - play a bunch of silly games to muddy the waters till you are frustrated and give in.

The solution is a simple breaking of kneecaps and ball bat to the head. Lock down the strait, get the border nations together to provide security, bring in rapid response special forces and Marines, and every time they attack, destroy the source, bring in troops to kill the rest, then go back to base. Iran gets no oil revenue.

Wash rinse repeat till they are no longer functioning because they're all dead.
The Republic is lost.

We have the means to do exactly that. What is Trump waiting for?  Christmas?  Democrats in Congress to say, "Boy, howdy?"

@Free Vulcan Two problems with that:
1) That will require a protracted time period and Trump will need to go to congress over the "War Powers Act"
2) how long do you think it will be before the media stirs everyone up over the whole "No boots on the ground"?
You are correct that this would be the best way to go all things being equal, but they are not.

Trump had his window of opportunity, but he whiffed.

Time for Plan B ... if he hasn't fired everyone in the CIA.

US said weighing pulling troops from Saudi Arabia amid major tensions with Riyadh over Iran war

https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/us-said-weighing-pulling-troops-from-saudi-arabia-amid-major-tensions-with-riyadh-over-iran-war/

Quote
US-Saudi relations have significantly deteriorated in recent months amid anger in Riyadh over Washington’s decision to launch a war against Iran that has caused massive blowback for the rest of the region, a Middle Eastern intelligence official tells The Times of Israel, confirming a Wall Street Journal report.

Saudi Arabia refused to allow the US to use its bases in order to conduct Project Freedom, which was aimed at breaking Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz by escorting stuck ships out of the channel.

Saudi bases and airspace were critical to the operation and Riyadh’s refusal to cooperate forced the US to abort the mission, the WSJ reveals. At the time, US President Donald Trump claimed that it was progress in talks with Iran that led him to call off Project Freedom after less than two days.

Infuriated by the Saudi decision, the White House threatened to hold back the delivery of interceptors that Riyadh had been using to shoot down Iranian missiles and drones, WSJ says, citing US and Arab officials familiar with the matter.

Riyadh subsequently relented and Project Freedom resumed covertly, but the damage wouldn’t be easily undone, US officials say.

EXCERPT

The truth finally comes out...the Saudis were NEVER onboard with smiting Iran.  Screw them too!

Quote
Trump went ahead with the war, anyway, exacerbating Saudi concerns that its investment in the relationship with the US president wasn’t translating into actual influence over American policy, Arab officials tell the Journal.
